  1. Did a quick search... this is an older model... believe the one shown in this link. Can't find a model number on their site to confirm with the box. eTrex Venture
  2. I've got eTrex Venture I rarely used. It's in the original box with books and pc cable. It's the bluish model. $45 shipped in US (will consider offers). paypal or MO ok.
  3. did find the clip in my stuff. so, how well does the garmin mount hold up to road vibration on a bicycle....or on a motorcycle?
  4. i'll have to dig around then... I don't remember seeing it
  5. I'm trying to find out if the ones sold a year ago or more would have had this... or when they started putting it in the package
  6. Has this clip always shipped with the Vista hcx? or is it a recent addition?
  7. I've got the zoom stuff right (saw that early on). I'll need to learn the POI loader thingy. tracks and routes can be stored on the card, can't they?
  8. I put maps on my data card through a card reader instead of leaving card in gps. Went super fast for file transfer, and everything appeared to work well. Tried then to write some waypoints to the card direct..... They didn't show up in the gps (I can see files on the card... but gps doesn't). Wrote waypoints direct to gps from Mapsource, and they do show up. Is there some trick to writing directly to the card from Mapsource for stuff other than maps?
  9. On my vista hcx, I loaded a bunch of maps from topo 2008, and city nav. While they are all turned on, the city nav is all that shows. Can I switch from topo to nav on the fly? I know i can turn maps on and off... but if you load a pile of topos, it takes a whle to scroll the list to find the nav map. Can I somehow combine all the topos into fewer larger maps so the on/off list is shorter? or what?
  10. Walked to work this morning... Marked home before I left. Walked home in the afternoon... When I got to my house, I was not at my mark for home... Shut off the unit, turned it on, boom... right onthe mark. Wholly unscientific, I know... but I'm going to start playing to see if the discrepancy happens a lot.
  11. after a 15 minute assault on the vacuum pack, my new toy is in hand...
  12. was thinking I'd hold off on upgrading my new vista hcx firmware until I see if this issue gets resolved... but then I checked... it shipped with 2.6. so, keeping my eyes peeled on this. Dumb question for people with the issue.... Is this one of those deals where if you let it drift, and watch it be wrong "live," as you hike... but then when you get home and transfer it to a map, the track is right on and not incorrect?
  13. I've seen some sites though that point out some cards, though, that seem to be a hell of a lot faster than others (read and write). Just thought it could affect map reads on our units.
  14. Lookin' around to pick up a card for my shipping vista, wondering if there's any microsd card people have found is head and shoulders above the pack for speed. Any cards that are known problems / don't work?
  15. Ordered the REI Vista HCX bundle. too good a deal, and from everything I've read, should cut it for what I want.
  16. I've checked with several sources, and garmin says the comment on amazon is wrong. Anyway, I'm fairly certain I'm going with a Vista HCX. I'm reading the back and forth by people about the 60csx vs.... but can not find a definitive proof that one's antenna is better than the other. I messed with my Venture this weekend and have a better feel for the button layout around the unit, and it's a comfortable setup for me... so i think the Vista should work the same way (or close enough for jazz). I've handled a Delorme, and wasn't keen on the feel. On a whole, the few comments I can find about reception of the pn-20 vs a 60/vista is that the garmins do better in heavy woods. I understand Delorme prepacks a lot of maps, ... but for my use, I have access to some good mapping tools (esri, gis, etc) and resources, and the local knowledge base is completely garmin... so it's tough to go the Delorme route.
  17. i asked about the call because it's not the beep on my end that's the problem...I wear an earpiece; it's when other people (not wearing headsets) get that beep just as the turdy-point buck is walking in front of them
  18. dumb question... do you know if you can disable the "call" buttons on these? I mean.. pressing it won't make the call signal? I ask because that's been a problem with my motorolas while hunting.
  19. having done mac support in the past, first thing I'd do is find out if you can find a bud with a PC and see if that machine sees the unit any differently. Might be a problem you can't navigate from the mac side... but can on a pc.
  20. interested to see if someone gets this working on a Vista HCX or Rino 530
  21. Vista is kinda sneaking into the running... saw this note on Amazon... is this true? Are there some maps I can't just load from computer to memory and that I have to buy on a chip? Is this true of any other units?
  22. not sure what you mean by "maps." I intend to use this hunting on known properties...and for those, I'm playing with making maps with some of the utilities I've found online. I've also talked to a friend who I work with at a university about using the esri/gis software to output maps directly from materials they have (which from what I can tell are more up to date than what I see on google/yahoo maps. He says they have a utility for making maps from ortho and transferring them to the garmins I may look for any kind of demo of the Delorme utilities to see what sort of manipulation of their maps, etc., they allow for loading to the pn-20 Hunting or wandering anywhere eles, I'll have to rely on something like the topo maps garmin or delorme sell for their units If I haven't planned a head and created anything.
