  1. said perfectly. end of discussion. to each their own
  2. that is an awesome story. did you tell tis story in the log you wrote when logging this cache on geocaching.com? if so it should be nominated for the new lost and found thing that ground speak has just launcehed
  3. thank you so much. it worked!!!!! thank you so much. i never would have thought of/tried that. thank you so much. and in case i forgot to mention it earlier....thank you so much.
  4. i've owned my GPS for just about 2 years. i have never had a problem with it before. the only thing that has changed is that I upgraded the software on it. i drop and drag the pocket query into the GPX folder found in the garmin folder on my gps. i always load 2 pocket queries of 500 caches each making a total of 1000 caches. when I turn on the GPS and try to load a cache page, it comes up "no matches found" as if the GPS is empty. i looked and looked, how do you switch it?
  5. I just updated my Colorado 400t to software version 3.4 and gps software version 2.8. my colorado worked just fine before that. i upgraded to get the way point averaging. now when i try to see what caches are near it says "no matches found" instead of giving me a list of caches. i checked and reloaded my pocket queries and this did nothing any one have any idea how to fix this? thanx in advance
  6. I see there are 3D and 4D versions of the fire tack. i know one is triangular and the other is square. what i don't know is What's the difference? why would you select one over the other? thanks in advance
  7. i cache solo 99% of the time. i cache in groups only at events. sometimes i bring my kids (ages 3 and 5) it is easier to cache with my kids because a guy walking around in circles looks suspicious, a guy walking in circles with kids looks normal. if i'm caching and muggles come i pretend my GPS is a phone and i don't feel so suspicious
  8. do i enjoy dodging muggles? yes and no. dodging muggles is part of the game. it adds to the challenge, in some cases it IS the challenge. i've had to wait out muggles for hours. usually i go find other caches and make my way back. twice i've had to take the cache home with me and return the next day to replace it. as i'm doing it it sucks, but after the fact looking back it was fun. if you wanna cache you have to deal with that fact that sometimes you are lucky sometimes you aren't
  9. when a baseball player hits the ball out of the park he HAS to run the bases or it doesn't count. if you find a geocache you HAVE to sign the log or it doesn't count. just my opinion but i believe that all my opinions are 100% correct and should be followed by all (again just my opinion)
  10. the # 1 reason (but not the only reason) for a premium membership is pocket queries. pocket queries lets you load you GPS to do paperless geo caching 500 at a time (not 1 at a time) how ever if you don't have a GPS that supports paperless geocaching it won't help you. you could use a palm pilot or blackberry though. paperless geocaching is important because: 1 you save trees and reduce your carbon foot print 2 i once read that it cost about $15,000 USD for 1 gallon of printer ink.
  11. i have 3 FTF's 1 of them is shared (i've found 480 caches total at this point in time) i don't go for ftf all that often. mainly when i find out about a new cache it has already been found or i don't have the time to rush off. i do, however, make it a priority to find newly published caches. you have a better chance of meeting other cachers at a newly published cache. I understand the prestige of a FTF 1 you won "the race" -- society dictates that winning is good 2 you had no clues to help you find it --- (many times i was able to make the find only after reading previous logs) 3 you get bragging rights i also understand why they don't mean anything. 1 the fun is in the journey not the destination 2 adds to the argument of having no life 3 it's not always a smart thing to rush into the unknown (the early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese)
  12. i just came across this website. http://www.handicaching.com/
  13. get yourself a copy of "geocaching for idiots" and read it cover to cover. it will answer most if not all of your questions, as well as questions you didn't even know you had. stay away from geocaching for dummies as I've heard much better thing about "idiots" this book is worth it's weight in gold to a new cacher.
  14. when i first started I read "geocaching for idiots" cover to cover from what I understand "idiots" is better then "for dummies" i don't remember if the book addresses this specific problem, but it's worth it's weight in gold to a new cacher.
  15. I have a garmin Colorado 400t and i love it i also use a nuvi 750 i use the nuvi as I drive to the cache. when i get as close as you can by car I switch to my colorado
  16. what everybody said is correct. however if you left without completing your search for what ever reason, wether it be a muggle came and sat down right where you need to look, or the park closed before you found it or what ever. if you leave feeling like you didn't get to give it the search it deserved (not because you gave up but because you were stopped) then i wouldn't post a DNF.
  17. I am contemplating making the jump from PC to Mac. I know GSAC doesn't work on a Mac. is there anything else I need to know? i currently use a Garmin Colorado 400t. thanks in advance
  18. I live in NYC and most caches (not all) that I find tend to be micros or nannos. so i use the screen on my Colorado as hard surface to lean on while signing the log sheet. if a hard surface is not needed then i usually put it in my pocket.
  19. I need a little guidance so as not to possibly anger my fellow cachers. I've been caching for about a year, but I have just recently gotten into the game of discovering geocoins and travel bugs. Is it bad etiquette to go back to caches I have already found to discover coins and bugs? My intent is not to retrieve, just to discover. (If i come across one that has been stuck in the same spot for a while I may decide to move it along but other then that I'm just interested in discovering.) if this is OK to do. how would I do it? would I post a note in the cache log online? (what would I say) or should i just log/discover it in the coin/bug page? thanks in advance for your guidance
  20. I was up late one night and flipping threw the channels. I came across some kind of documentary on something called "Geocaching". I don't remember what channel or even if it was a full hour or a half hour show. I do remember thinking "what a cheesy sport. How fun could that be? walk through the woods to find something with junk in it!". I watched till the end of the show and thought it was dumb but went to check out the website anyway. I joined the website and bookmarked it. About a month later I came across it in my favorites and checked it out again. I was amazed at how many were in my area. I decided to go find the closest one to my house to see what it was about. I was hooked after the 1st one. what's your story? how did you 1st learn about geocaching
  21. Please elaborate! For example how do you look like you know what you are doing when you are in the parking lot of Walmart looking underneath a light post? Get your self a clip board with paper and a pen.
  22. I was searching for a cache about 15 feet off the path I came in on. After a couple of minutes I heard voices and they weren't the voices I usually hear in my head. Sure enough I see a couple holding hands coming down the path I came in on. OK i don't want them to see me and start asking questions so I quietly slip behind a tree and wait for them to pass. When they get within 15 feet from where I'm standing they sit down and start having lunch. Both of them had their backs towards me. great!!! now what do I do? After a couple of minutes i just started walking further into the woods and found another way out. I don't know if they ever knew I was there. I just kept walking. probably scared the hell out of them.
