I just got Goofed by the Goofy Cacher...anyone else!
TokyoBlossom replied to kimba off track's topic in Trackables
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! Goofy Cacher came to my town today. I feel like I won the lottery Here is my log: Well I'll be....What a beautiful day to be "Goof"ing-off!I had just come in from lunch when I noticed a new log on a geocache close by. I couldn't believe my Goof Luck! Goofy Cacher had come to little Seneca, SC for a visit. I had been crossing my fingers, toes, arms, and legs that this geocacher would come my way and it looks like it worked. I grabbed my Goofy watch (it isn't running, but I knew it would bring me luck) and put on the Goofiest shirt I have (a deer dressed as a hunter with a human tied upside down in a trap). I even brought along my oldest geodog for the hunt. I figured her nose would lead the way if I got lost! I hopped in the car and rushed to the geocache. There were lots of friendly folks out walking the nearby track and playing with their discs. I turned a few heads on my hunt, but not because of MY t-shirt. My geodog has developed rough elbows and apparently everyone thought her shirt was just too cute. I rounded the course getting closer and closer and then I spied where I thought this geocache had to be. I checked that no one was around and made a beeline for it. I found the container without much trouble and I was thrilled to see a familiar face staring out at me. I took some pictures and then opened the container. I was admiring the Goofy Cacher geocoin when I realized something, what a Goof I am! I forgot to bring something to trade for it. I knew I could be back in 5 minutes tops, so I decided to sign the log and return with an unactivated geocoin to leave. That was when I noticed there wasn't a pen in the geocache. Thankfully, I had several pens in my bag and after I signed the log I left one. I made my way out of the park and back to my car, holding little Goofy close. I love this geocoin and I don't think there has been one that is more appropriate for me than this one is! -
I'm just waiting on 1 more trade, which I will hopefully have by the end of this week. I am crossing my fingers that my package will have plenty of time to arrive prior to my recipient's birthday!!!

Congratulations LoriDarlin!!! I have a special place in my heart for Goofy because his watch was the only non-digital watch I could read in a glance, versus counting up the numbers. I looked for one of mine, I had a few of them growing up, but I couldn't put my fingers on one. I found this picture online: I <3 Goofy -

Let me provide a glimmer of hope here. I actually have had a few geocoin packages sent to me go MIA for more than 1-2 months, but by the grace of God or just the postal machines finally spitting them out (I have pictures of one particularly mangled envelope) all but 1 eventually arrived. Don't give up hope and believe in the honesty of others. I also believe in Karma B)

No regrouping required; I am keeping it simple like others stated before

ok....the part of me that wants to try this has just won out over the part of me that is apprehensive. Sending email.

Email sent! I hope I made it before they all hopped away

I completed my first trade (2 for 2) in May of last year with Cache Agent. I got her Cache Tech/Cache Agent Canadian Volunteer Geocache Reviewers geocoin and a CITO 2006. Even better than the two geocoins, I made a friend Trading is a very enjoyable experience to me too. I have a spreadsheet listing all my geocoins and I totaled up my number of trades since that time and I am standing at a total of 59 geocoins that passed through my hands on their way to others. I am sure others have a much higher number, but that might give you an idea of what you could be up to in the next year!

I know I have been one of the quiet ones and that is because I hate conflict. Since this thread is just about asking personal opinions, I feel comfortable saying my piece. I haven't yet minted or designed a geocoin, but if/when I do I definitely have an opinion of how I will handle it. Scenario 1: Designer...ebay...post-retail sale I personally think this is acceptable behavior for the designer; it is an unrestricted beach in my mind I think the designer deserves to be compensated for their idea and work. Of course, I can say this with confidence because I know I was able to buy this geocoin at retail price from the vendor. Another reason I can say this is because I am not into collecting for the resale value; I have never and will never buy geocoins to turn around and sell them on ebay. I will feel zero ill will toward the designer for this behavior. Scenario 2: Designer...ebay...pre-retail sale I think the designer's behavior is ok. I will admit to being a little unhappy about it since I don't know for sure if I will be able to buy the geocoin directly from the vendor, but for all the other reasons above I don't see any problem. As long as I believe I will be able to purchase the geocoin from the vendor for retail in the future, I will be patient and believe the expression "good things come to those who wait." While I am not going to say I feel zero ill will toward the designer, it is approaching zero. Scenario 3: Vendor...ebay...pre-retail sale This scenario is slightly murky water for me. I believe it is the right of the vendor to handle itself in this way, but in my mind (as a consumer) this is unacceptable behavior. I see a difference in this behavior from a vendor when compared to the designer. The parallel I can draw to this is any hot new item that is being released, most recently iPhones and Wiis. I don't want to imagine AT&T and Toys R Us having ebay auctions for their stock before they were allowed to offer them at retail. I know some manufactures/suppliers have rules about that, think J.K. Rowling and the last Harry Potter book. A vendor should not offer items up for auction prices before its retail release. I will remember the vendor who has done this and I will view them in a negative light compared to a vendor who never sells their pre-releases on ebay. Scenario 4: Vendor...ebay only I will admit it is the right of the vendor to handle itself in this way. I don't feel comfortable saying this is unacceptable, but I am leaning heavily towards this opinion. Part of me is willing to recognize that there may be reasons for only this method of sales, but I am definitely most unhappy with it as a consumer. My issue with this practice stems from my feelings about the vendor's attitude toward their geocoins. I choose not to view geocoins as a money-maker. I will not patronize a vendor's ebay "store" and I have negative feelings toward any vendor who sells all or even only certain editions of their geocoins on ebay. (Vendors NOT designers, because I believe there is a difference.)
