  1. Arc Map is a profeshional lvl mapping program. But its a couple 1000's per licince. But man it rocks.
  2. Well when my arents built there house my dad hired one to find out where to drill the well. Little background on my dad hes a enginer very very cut and dry type of guy wont even go to a cyroprator cause he thinks there quacks. Its been 15 years or sence the built the house and the well has never gave them a prob even during the dryest of summers. So I vote ya they work.
  3. Teach him to only kill things that he intends to eat ... oh, wait, you might not like the outcome of that either. Jan Oh god being a conservation major I would love to tell him that but would hate to have to tell his mom why he ate that bug in the back yard
  4. It depends on the age group my 3yo son loves just to see a nice flower and a bug to kill (I dont agree with the last part) my 8 yo daughter just likes nay girly thing as long as she gets the find and a little reward at the end.
  5. no fair giveing a review without a atleat one recipy
  6. Good thing that didnt happen to me I prob would have done the same thing. But the next day Id be back to see what was down those stairs. God only knows what I would find.
  7. have you tryied to contact any of the little league coatches they would know who is in charge. Also as i see it just the ball park is off limits so you could move the cache part to another spot.
  8. Ya I feal the same way I'd eather like a low tarane rateing and difficult find or a real nice hard hike and climb with a easy find at the end but at the same time if i look at the rateing and see 4/4 well then I know what im getting into and enjoy those too. So basicly yes some people like a 1/4 or 4/1 but also some people like a 4/4 and some like both. I would say place it and peole will come.
  9. why is it the aprovers job or the rangers job to sugeste other locations. The hider went and hide the cashe assuming that he had the right t do so he didnt go ask if he could. When the park ranger foun about the cache he didnt aprove. Seams realy cut and dry to me. If he wants to rehide it somewhere else then try contacting the park ranger from the copy of the last log i saw he souneded caher freindly and bashing him or the aprover seams to make us look worse. Its neather the arover or the rangers job to rlocate a cache its the cache owners job. The ranger saw a chance that this cache could cause neg impact to the suroundings and you want to argue that it should be left there man get over it he is just trying to protect the things we so much enjoy seeing.
  10. Man if there useing gps's for landings I hope theres are better then mine if not alot of planes will be landing on the grass about 70 ft or soo to the right of the landing strip.
  11. Hey guys I was talking with one of my freinds and hes staioned in the USAF in the fresno area. I mentioned geocaching to him and he had heard of it but said theres not any good caches out in the area. Can you guys help me out to prove him wrong. Not looking to be mean to him just show him some nice sites in the area. Hes more of a sight seer then a find a micro type person. thanks for any help. pyro
  12. We'll the only ones that this rule would realy matter too are the ones that care about numbers. Chances are if your trying to pad your numbers with multiple finds on the same cache eventualy you'll be found out. For me I realy could care less about my numbers I probly have atleast 20 finds not loged on GC do iI car no. I had tons of fun findng them. This is not a pro spot this is not even a game of go fih theres no winners and no losers. If you want to turn this into a number game well great but as I see it your just putting stress on something that should just be a nice way to go out and enjoy the out doors. Pyro
  13. The NYS DEC had a anti geocacheing policy much like this (wanting insurance and such) theve chaged that stance you might want to look at there new rules on it and use that as a sugestion guideline for them.
  14. one time I came up frome a gorge from doing a cache. As soon as I got up there I ran into to cops they looked at me and the camera I had and said "what are you doing down here" I exsplaned it and then told me people have gotten muged down here a couple days ago. Judgeing but sseing alot of evidence of drug use a homeless shelter and cops busting underage drinkers down in the area the same day ya they might have been right but well I'm just a little guy and sill didnt feal uncomftrable doing the cache (ok ok at one point I did wory about snakes).
  15. Well one night at a pub night. There was a poker run (5 part multi with cards in each part to make a poker hand) well me and my freinds were one of the last ones to do it for the night and we were at part 5 and saw lights comeing down the trail. So use in our drunk wisdom deside it would be fun to grab the cahce and hide and watch people look for it for a while before we poped out and laughed at them. My freind garbed the cach as i saw a bunch of tall grass and desided that would be a good spot to hide. What i didn't see was the fallen tree hideing in the grass. So i go runing only to hit a branch from the tree that stole my hideing place. Now after over a year ago i still have a scar on both of my uper uper legs from where i was cut (thank god i wasnt 2 inches shorter).
  16. seams my 3yo has no prob going out side took him to his first cyto event we were at the pavilion and I was talking with some freinds. When someone yells hey dave i think your son needs to go I turn around and hes right outside the pavilon with pants around his ankles.
  17. Geocaching has taught me that if your hikeing with a untied shoelace you'll always trip over it when trying to craoss a stream.
  18. Hey before you give the trolls a bad rap read into them a little mroe. yes there gona take over and make us slaves. BUT there also gona make us drink beer all day granted its cheap american beer but hey they cant be all bad. Oh wait they like pink flamingos ya I guess they can. Concerning the cache idea I think this one could be awsome. Add your exsperinces and if you can do a little research on the town that was there and give a history lession and you could have a amzeing cache.
  19. Ive had alot of good runins with park rangers. One that sticks out in my mind was there was a event at a state park here in ny. When the ragers found out about all the campers that were geocachers they didnt know about cacheing and were a little woried at first. We placed a 5 point multi poker run event cache and unitentionaly placed it in a area that was off limits (yes this sounds bad stick with me it goes well) one of the rangers came to the pavilion and withing min we had the cache pulled and managed to keep everyone out of the area. The park rangers were very happy about how quickly the issue was resolved.the next day after we broke camp me and a freeind went to the parks office and asked if one of the rangers would like to see where the perminate caches were placed. One taged along with us as we cytoed the area and exsplaned geocaching to them. It turned out to be a great exsperince for both sides and we now have yet another state park that wants more cachers to come visit.
  20. you forgot your tin foil hat didn't you.
  21. Not directly solely at PyroDave, but, if one has a weapon already pointed at one's self, one has not been paying attention to one's surroundings. Many times, if one does pay attention, one can avoid having a weapon drawn and pointed at one's self. Col. Jeff Cooper developed a system, widely used in firearms training, to identify and label one's surroundings, to recognize and avoid a situation that may result in having a weapon pointed at one's self. Here and here for a little more about the "Color Code" and a little about decision making before and during a confrontation. Yes i can uderstand the whole your not paying attention statment thing but lets consider a couple things first how many posts have you seen wheere people signing a log have been suprised by a muggle? Second if you have that much awarnes of your suroundings you should beable to defuse the situation before it comes to a dueling chalange. Most criminals are looking for a easy grab if you canfrount them before you then they most likely turn away. If they dont even by the time you have noticed them even if they dont have the gun drawn they have already sized you up and have the advantage. If your cacheing with your family do you realy want to draw risk him getting the stray shot off and hiting a family member? Like i've said I have no prob with guns but the attitude that if i have a gun I'm gona win the fight isnt realistic.
  22. man im glad that I dont live where you live. Ive been cacheing for a couple years and never ran into any thing lke that. In the past I have had a gun pulled on me and defused the situation without pulling a gun. If theres already a gun pointed at you do you realy belive you can pull aim and pull the triger faster then someone can pull the triger?? After talking with my kung fu instructer and asking him many times what should i do if i have a gun pulled on me. he told me one thing do what they say and keep a calm head any action that can escalte the situation will turn out bad. Even if you do manage to draw out your gun chances are you will get shot doing it. I understand the I saw a bobcat situation then it could help but even in that instance things can turn from bad to worse
  23. I see it done around here all the time just use a note to do it and its all fine anything to move a bug around
  24. At a recent event my daughter decided she was gona find a cache with a freind she maid it was a kids only cache and within eye sight of the picknic area. So I had no prob with it. Plugged in the cords and started showing here how to figure out how to read the screen. the back arow points this way ect well I didnt even get that statment out before little miss know it all ( She must get it from her mom) decides she can figure it out her self. Boy it was funny watching here run in circles in for a few min going the wrong way after that though shes becomeing alot better with a gps and realy enjoys doing some caches.
  25. Lie! Save your passive aggressive rhetoric. It's weak and ignorant. You don't know me well enough to call me liar. And I do respect his opinion. I'm not even against gun ownership. My post was about making choices for yourself versus making choices for other people. Get a grip. recently online I saw a video of a cop teaching a gun safty class shoot him self in the foot and another cop showing kidds that his safty holster made it so the gun couldnt go off also shooting himself in the leg so I would have to agree that If your gona carry then everyone has the right to know. If you don't feal conftrable enough to tell fellow cachers that your packing the you probly shouldnt. And before you flame me I have no probs with guns just alot of the people that cary them.
