  1. this is the site to use correct . http//wap.geocaching.com ? I can't get it to load on my blackberry 7100 . Keep getting http error 400 :bad request the server could not understand the page request or was unable to process for some reason.
  2. Now can you load all of north america maps into the pda in one card. I found out mapopolis has a kit that includes a bluetooth reciever, 1gb car with all of north america on it for 189.00 I didn't see anything for the ppc's.
  3. I don't think there are any GPS systems for PALM that are very good. You could go with a PPC, however i'd suggest you get a high end unit like a 60CSx (i have it and its great) and you'll probably get signal in your car. I once had an etrex legend and got almost nothing in my car and now with my new 60CSx signal comes in great even in the middle of the back seat. If you got City Navigator you could even get turn by turn directions like you wanted and it'd be great for caching http://www.mapopolis.com/ Look at the video of the palm being used with navigator . looks pretty easy to use. I don't know how there software compares. I was thinking ppc just because of the add high rez screen and bigger screen to look at. I first and formost want a good pda the gps navigating would be 2nd with my etrex for using when caching. I want a device that can do more then turn by turn directions and caching points. I think that is why I am looking at a pda solution. There are some many units to choice from and software combos wow where do you start. Looks like tom, tom, mapoplois and streets and trips are at the top? Then which unit do you choice.. http://www.buygpsnow.com/gps-for-pocket-pc_1.html http://www.buygpsnow.com/gps-for-palm_93.html
  4. After getting lost this weekend and my wife and I screaming at each other over who's fault it was (hers) I have decided I need a GPS system for my pda. I currently have the TX and wonder what is the best system out there for Palm? bluetooth or wired? I also own a 2000 Chevy venture that has a reflective coating that will not allow my handheld extrex gps to work on the front dash. What ever solution I have needs to have a longer cord to run to the side windows or rear windows or use bluetooth. I would be willing to switch pdas to a PPC if opinions think the ppc would be better for GPS systems. I have heard of a few systems , namely TOM TOM, co pilot, garmin systems. What do you guys think?
  5. i get this message, " This site can't be view due to a temporary overload or lack of maintenance". anybody else get this?
  6. Looking for a program to load the logs and pages with waypoints and descriptions onto my Palm. I have found alot in the search files on PPC but doesn't seem like anything for palm.I have been trying to get the mobility reader on the geocaching site to work on my Palm and can't figure out how to download the pages to the Palm. I downloaded the program and that is as far as I got. I go to a site and how do I get it to download the pages? May the GPS be with you.
  7. We tested the unit this weekend. Hit 3 caches in our area and brought both gps's. My vista and his ifinder. The ifinder sucks. it was off by over 200 feet. He was standing on a cache and it was pointing the other way. Mine said that I was on top of it with in 2 feet. Needless to say he is returning it to his friend and buying a yellow Etrex with his 100 bucks. May the GPS be with you.
  8. not sure on the mapcreate 6 software , but I will have him check on it. The guy just told him it comes with a software cd. Is there a standard CD that comes with it? How small can it zoom into feet wise?? May the GPS be with you.
  9. My dad is looking at purchasing his first GPS.A friend of his from work has an 2002 Lowerance I finder with PC cable and CD. He wants 100 bucks for it.My question is how good is this unit? How does it compare to an Etrexs? Use, screen, data entery, etc. I wondering if buying this unit is really worth the price when I know he can buy a yellow etrexs for 100. I love my etrex and recommended it to him but if this Lowerance is a good deal then I will recommend the I finder. May the GPS be with you.
  10. Thanks for all the help. I don't like the idea of a bulk external antenna and its just somthing else to carry. I guess the more I think about it the smaller the better. Thanks for the help guys. May the GPS be with you.
  11. which gps take external antenna. Does anyone have a link to the gps V ? who makes it? May the GPS be with you.
  12. I went caching today with another team and his GPS was a yellow Garmin. We where in some heavy wooded area and couldn't get any good signal. We moved around alot trying and the GPS would show .4 miles from the area then jump into the oppposite direction and show 2.4 miles?? I question is which GPS has the best Antenna?I have heard the garmin uses a patch internal antenna and the Magellan has a double helx external. Does one pick up better then others? What about Waas enabled GPS's does it make a difference in the woods? May the GPS be with you.
  13. I have narrowed my choices down from all the units I looked at. Budget has the best of me right now. I am looking at the Etrex Legend or the Magellan Sporttrax. Both are in my price range. What do you guys think? Which one has the most of my requirements? May the GPS be with you.
  14. Hi all, I am new to the sport and have enjoyed borrowing my friends yellow Etrex to get me started. I am currently looking to purchase a GPS unit and need helping picking the right one for me. After using the yellow Etrex I have a feel for things I would like to have . 1. Mapping, roads, highways, towns,citys,etc... 2. ruggedized and some what water resistant 3. extra memory for downloading basic topo, or more maps. 4. electronic compass 5. Waas 6. PC cable of some kind. I want to be able to enter the coordinates and names of waypoints by some kind of software on my pc .I want to sync that info into the GPS. 7.Color , I wanted to look at color units but not needed. I haven't seen a color unit in a store yet! Anybody have one? What do they look like outdoors? Are they worth the money? Are they bright in dimmly lit areas? I don't know how much of this is even possible new to this and looking for some veteran help. thanks in advance, May the GPS be with you.
