  1. We usually take a Smith and Wesson model 6906 9mm semi auto with us. It's light, compact and holds 13 rounds. We don't do many urban caches and it calms the nerves when we see cougar tracks deep in the woods.
  2. There are two norths. One is true north, it points to the North Pole. The second is magnetic north, it is where the north needle of a compass will point. Magnetic north varies depending on where you are on the Earth. Where I am, magnetic north is about 19° east of true north. So if you want to go 260° magnetic, set the compass N needle on 0° and walk where the 260° mark points. Hope that makes sense.
  3. Thanks Jim. I just hate it when the answer is SO obvious!
  4. When I do a PQ of my found caches, the ones that have been archived don't show up. Is this normal or am I missing something. It seems they should show, since they were active when I found them. Paul
  5. Say I use the mark key and set a waypoint, it starts with 001. The next one is 002 and so on. After I no longer want those waypoints, I delete them all. Then when I mark a new waypoint it starts numbering from where it left off, not from 001 all over again. I want to be able to set the unit to start numbering at 001, but can't figure out how to do this. Anyone have the answer?
  6. The nearest unfound cache for us is also the nearest cache to our home. It's 4411 feet away. It'll stay unfound by us as it is in the owners yard, visable from the street and we don't care to enter the yard.
  7. Well howdy, Were kinda new to the sport also. I grew up in Milwaukie (Oak Grove actually), and graduated from Milwaukie HS too many years ago to mention. We live in Central Oregon now, but just wanted to say "Hi". Dad & Hanger
