  1. Thanks for your reply, Deci. I understand that there is a problem with UK EC submissions so I will restrain my anticipation! Regards, Phil
  2. I submitted an EC on the 19th January for approval. I understand that currently we don't have a UK Reviewer so I haven't persued it! - should I?
  3. I use Geosphere too and LOVE IT! I also use Geosphere which, for me, has the advantage of being able to receive PQs so doesn't necessarily need a satelite signal. There are many places in Northumberland, and I'm sure other places, where I just can't get a phone signal.
  4. Apparently, you can get some really good bargains on eBay by searching using "spelling mistakes"!
  5. I'm sure that you will get lots of suggestions for long distance walks. One that you might want to consider is the Hadrians Wall Walk from Wallsend to Bowness, or Newcastle to Carlisle if you want to stick to mainline rail stations! Although I haven't walked the full length, about 70 miles, I can tell you that there are a good number of caches on the actual Wall route itself and a lot more if you divert a mile or two on either side!! Being one of many well established long distance walks there is plenty of local accomdation along the route and an Internet search should help you to plan should walk. I'm sure that there will be a bookmark in "Find routes" - just try searching on "A69".
  6. Incidentally, the same cache contained a TB dog tag, with nothing attached. I assumed that it had become detached from something already in the box so, I took it along with the only object that looked as though it could be part of a TB. I've since had a message from the person who dropped it off to say that is how he found it and he was the first to pick it up! Do I move it on with the "hitch-hiker"? Same thing happened to me once, I took the tag and the most likely object, Emailed the TB owner who confirmed I had the right bit, so I re-attached the tag to the trinket and set it free again. I did email the TB owner and he has confirmed that it was "set free" without anything attached!
  7. A cache I found today included a pack of "bolts and wingnuts"! I suppose that they might be useful, if you needed a "bolt and wingnut", but I'm not sure that it is the first thing that would spring to mind when I was stocking a cache box!! 8. I've started using MyGeocachingProfile.com recently and noted that I had more finds than caches! But then I realised that I had logged Ye Ole Survey Monuments (GC45CC) cache for three different locations!! Are there other (virtual) caches with multiple locations? I also noticed that I had a cache in Germany even though I've never cached there! I reported a possible problem and it turned out to be Fast Forward - Such den Bulli (GCKTK0) the moving cache which I spotted at the Perth Mega but is "based" in Germany. The program has been (will be?) ammended so some people may well notice their German cache total dropping by one!!
  9. Mandy, I have to admit that, as the "adopted owner", this particular log "passed me by"! I'm certain that nothing sinister was intended but, I have, however, contacted the logger and asked that they edit their log!! Mandy, the logger has edited his log!

  11. There appears to be a missing " (close quote)! Regards from one pedant to another!!
  12. I think Edinburgh is not only a great city but also a great "caching city"! One thing that I have noted is that a lot of the caches in the centre are multis. This can be a great way of seeing a place but, if you are only visiting for a short time or are "after the numbers", it can be a disadvantage!! As far as multis are concerned a couple of my favourites are Stones of Scotland (GCYNT0) and The No.1 Ladies's Detecting Agency (GC1ZKPJ). Both of these can be researched on the Internet in advance of a visit and certainly the first revealed to me lots of information about Scotland that I didn't know. For the second cache, you don't need to have read the books but still enjoy the search on the Internet. There aren't too many webcam caches around but there is Wolfing It (GCHWAP) and if you want a really difficult puzzle there is always Yobbies (GCWH8V). And, if you find it you could always send me a clue! I've tried about three times and still can't find it!! There aren't many caches in central Edinburgh for TBs but if you want to drop one or collect one, or even if you don't, a must is Crag & Tail (GCHXMH). This is a great cache which is just off "the tourist trail" but will give you a very different view of the centre of Edinburgh! And, of course, there is Holyrood Park! There are some great caches in this area with great views of the city and the surrounding area. The "must do" is Arthur's Seat Earthcache (GCNTAB) and if you do get to the top don't forget that you can also record the information to log it as a YOSM (GC45CC)!! As far as good pubs are concerned - there are loads! Plenty on the Royal Mile. My own favourites are the ones that I visit whilst waiting for the train back to Newcastle - The Guildford Arms, The Cafe Royal and The Abbotsford. If you're an Ian Rankin fan The Oxford is "a must"! Enjoy your stay; I'm sure you will.
  13. The Bailiwick of Jersey, which includes the main island and various small off-islands are listed as Jersey. The Bailiwick of Guernsey includes Herm, Sark and Alderney as well as a few small islands and Guernsey itself - All are Guernsey on GC.com. It's not a part of the UK, but it, like The Isle of Man, is one of the British Isles. Thanks, Paul, your reply has answered my question.
  14. I was surprised to find that GSAK listed Jersey as a "country". I could understand the Channel Islands but are the islands all listed separately? Also, is the Isle of Man listed as a separate "country"? Like the Channel Islands it does have its own Parliament. Groundspeak's countries are Geocaching Administration regions, and not legally recognised Countries [that is Countries recognised by the UN]. In the same way the UK Geocaching Regions are strictly Geocaching Administration Regions only. I believe that the IoM and Channel Islands are Crown Dependencies, Gibraltar [also listed by Groundspeak as a Country ] which is a British Overseas Territory, are all self Governing. Thanks, Deci, for the "explanation"! I wasn't suggesting, or not suggesting, that Jersey was or wasn't a country (hence the "quotes") but expressing surprise that my finds in Jersey weren't listed as the Channel Islands. I was hoping that someone who had found caches on Alderney, Sark, etc could tell me how their finds are listed by GSAK. I was also interested in the Isle of Man's "Groundspeak status" being part of the British Isles but not the UK, or the EU!! Who's being pedantic now!!!

  16. I got one in Monaco and you can't even see it on the map!
  17. Sorry Mark but, when I'm sitting on top of a hill in Upper Coquetdale, as I was earlier this week, or any other of the remote parts of Northumberland, and can't get a signal on my iPhone, or the battery is running down, I want a "good old" paper OS Explorer map. Call me old fashioned! - which I probably (certainly?) am!!
  18. I'd respectfully suggest getting a new fiance.. I'm inclined to agree! Alternatively, you could always drive to Manchester or Liverpool - plenty of carparks - and do some "urban caches"!!
  19. I must admit that I have this "plan" to find all of the caches in Northumberland! I live in Newcastle and if I see a new cache in Gateshead (3 miles away) I think, "OK - might go for that sometime when I'm 'across the river'" But, if there is a new cache in Morpeth (15 miles north!) it's get up at 5.00 in the morning to "go get it"!! Don't get me wrong!!! It's not an obsession about FTFs, despite what some local cachers might think, it's just I "feel the need" to keep on top of these Northumberland caches!!! You won't believe this but, tonight there has just been released a series of ten new caches along a cycle track starting just four miles from where I live. What's more, I don't even have a bike!! I guess I'm just going to have to walk it - I wonder what time the first bus to Ponteland is in the morning!!!
  20. If I come across a micro or nano that has a full log, I would certainly replace it, if I have a spares with me, which I deliberately try to carry. Speaking as a "owner" and a "searcher" I would appreciate such an action. I would, however, take the full log away with me and contact the CO and offer to send it to them, should they want it. So far, nobody has ever wanted me to send the full log to them. For larger caches, which had room for the old log, I would probably leave it. Incidentally, I wouldn't necessarily limit my replacing to logs! I also try to carry in my "caching bag" spare nano, micro and small caches. I'm sure that many (most?) of us have come across the broken cache box which is full of water.
  21. I recall reading about "worm hole" caches which, I believe are known as Stargate caches. I understand that these are caches that can take "travellers" which are then posted on to other Stargates around the world. I can't find much information about them - are there any in the UK?
  22. This reminds me of "Worm Holes" which I seem to remember reading about. Places where you could drop off "travellers" which were then posted on to another location. Did I just image that? Or, are there such things?
  23. An interesting discussion! If Geocaching has become "mainstream" and/or "institutionalized" - both adjectives that have been used - I am surprised the the dreaded "Health and Safety" hasn't yet been mention!! Is it only a matter of time before a "Risk Assessment" needs to be submitted with a new cache for publication?!!!

You've got me wondering now! I think that I may have added them to the page and then added the note, rather than added the note and then the photos from the note - if you understand what I mean!! I think that I will delete them all and try again!!! B&R, many thanks indeed for sorting out my problem! You were quite right - I had uploaded from the page rather than from the note. I deleted them and resubmitted from the note and all's well now. I've also taken your advice and put a message on the description saying that the images are in the gallery.
