  1. Someone asked in teh New England forum about finding all teh bookmarks for New England. Is there an easy way to browse bookmarks? I've missed it, if so. If it is not there, adding a way to browse all the bookmarks by state and perhaps region would be a great way to find cool public bookmarks rather than accidentally stumbling upon them when seen on a cache page.

  3. DRAT!!! Where is a little applause smiley?? Nicely done! Because it needs to be said again. I wish people would read whole threads before replying. Happy hunting to you as well, Raven02!
  4. Hi; When cache owners choose to post parking coordinates, would it be difficult to pass these on to the mapquest link from the cache page, along with the final? It'd be nice to click the map and see both in one shot. Unfortunately you can't just copy paste the coordinates into mapquest because they use a different scheme, so you have to convert the coordinate before doing it. If you can pass two coordinates, I think this would be a nice little automated feature. Thanks! n00b
  5. This IS cool! What a great way to get some training in and have fun at the same time...
  6. I've done some cemetery caches. I do not think any of them were active (cemeteries, that is). I spent time reading the headstones and wondering what life must have been like in 16-1700's to see children who have passed on before their tenth birthday. What was it like for some to have buried sons lost in those early wars of the founding of America? This is not disrespectful. In fact, it is the opposite. By remembering these people, we remember our history. That a cache brought me there is simply that - I have a reason for being there. Taking the extra time to contemplate is a wonderful experience. As someone else posted earlier, people having picnics in cemeteries, or playing a quiet game of checkers as in days past - these things, done respectfully, do not dishoner the dead or their living families. They honor them by remembering and engaging the past. There are functional concerns - I have yet to see one *IN* a cemetery, but certainly in nearby stonewalls, after following clues based upon the content of the headstones. Leaving a container in the cemetery would certainly see it removed by any active grounds-keeping activities. What dismays me more is the destruction of headstones by youths. One nice cache near me was destroyed because it had some occultic legends around it. Someone came one night and when it didn't do what it was supposed to do, they broke it (the headstone). As for my grave - I would be happy if people danced on it. Love life while you have it. Dance on my grave.
  7. GPSfun. He 'git's it done'. As I am limited to the reviewer who does my area, I guess I'm stuck - they're all good people.
  8. I'm not much for puzzle caches, either. You can use a PQ to filter those out if you don't care for 'em.
  9. I just got my new cache notification. It might be nice to include the Difficulty/Terrain & cache size for browsing through the list. Ex. 7. (GCZ2J1) Stick Island (Traditional Cache): 1/5 Regular Location: New Hampshire, United States Date: 10/26/2006 Posted by: adventurebound (link removed for brevity_ 27.7mi NE (44.6km NE) I gotta say, though... MUCH nicer than the old bot mails. I like it!
  10. From the cache description it seems like a Gas Saver cache - a cache designed to show you a place to park when there are nearby caches with no parking coordinates. Perhaps 'blinker' refers to a turn signal on a car - the cache being so close to the side of a road you could just park and leave your (turn) blinker on?
  11. I'll send you my PayPal account info so you can make that deposit. You mean you haven't installed a keylogger and copied credit card numbers? Slacker. I just installed this script and the show all logs script. Works wonderfully with FF 2.0 for me.

  13. Mine still hasn't shown up, but given Elias's announcement thread about Yahoo Mail greylisting stuff, I guess I will ust have to wait and see what happens.
  14. There is a public domain geocaching logo project out there, but I forget the addy. Google could pull it. Anyway, those are pretty common, and independent of trademark concerns. The 'Gx' logo is fairly commonly used. I like the Geocaching.com logo better, but as TPTB said, they have to protect their trademark.
  15. Still waiting for mine so I can comment without (unintentionally) putting my foot in my mouth.
  16. Caches that are disabled/re-enabled would be cool too. I get a message about these when I dump my PQs into GSAK, but it'd be nice to have the e-mail message to refer to. Ditto!
  17. That was a really fun cache, CTD. I liked that one a lot. And I didn't have a Segway.
  18. The guy in that picture was in perfect health. What does he need a Segway for?
  19. Well, I started with, and still use, a Garmin eTrex Legend. I also bought the Mapsource TOPO program, though I bought it later. The eTrex Legend only has 8 MB of memory, and is black and white, not color, however it has served me well since day one. The extra maps (about $100 or so) added to the total cost, but they are VERY worth it due to the finer detail available. If you can afford a bit more, any of the 'x' series Garmin units reportedly have better reception, and some if not all?) use expandable memory cards that are available from a number of sources (not just Garmin). Some of those 'x' series units also have a dedicated geocaching mode, kinda cool. I can't talk about Magellans or the other big brand, but that is a Coke vs. Pepsi debate. Try some unit out in a store to see if you like the interface of one vendor or another. Stay away from Cobra GPS receivers though. I have never heard anything nice about them.
  20. Just another guess, but are the batteries well charged or new-ish? Do you have the battery type et to teh same type of battery you are using (ie alkaline, NiMH, etc)? I have heard some people theorize that low batteries cause issues. I have not seen this with MY eTrex Legend though. I have seen mine go through periods where the EPE does seem to widen a bit (out to about 70). Have you considered comparing the terrain you were frequently getting the 30' foot EPE with the terrain you've been getting 70'? Are you in steeper valleys, gorges or noticeably heavier tree cover?
  21. I read them (and photograph the pages (digital, cheap)) when I go to do maintenance. I photo the pages just in case the cache gets muggled, I can till go back and read the good and bad.
  22. Feel free to use any in my gallery that do not have people in them. Some of my favorites:
  23. You can download the manual and quick reference guide from teh Garmin website (click this link to go there)
  24. There are a number of threads on this already. Yeesh - lets keep this one family friendly.
  25. I think he was being creative and the website implies that geocaching is permitted and outlines where it is not. So when the land manager states "Geo-caching is a permissible dispersed recreation activity on most areas of the Allegheny National Forest" but says "Areas where geo-caching is not permitted include: Hickory Creek and Allegheny Islands Wilderness; Tionesta Scenic and Research Natural Areas; Hearts Content Scenic Area and all developed recreation sites" and the cache follows that then why should it be denied? Maybe there has been a policy change that hasn't yet made its way to teh reviewers? Maybe teh OP is conveniently leaving out certain bits of information? THAT has never happened here before. If the former, a little civility from teh OP would have been nice.
