  1. A poster has noted some abusive bookmarks. I assume the proper method for dealing with these is to use the contact at geocaching dot com address, but is this so? Anyone have any actual, existing examples of 'bad' bookmarks, is this -REALLY- a problem? I look forward to hearing from TPTB after they catch up from the long weekend. Hope you west-coasters had a good time!
  2. DITTO!!! Not only this kind of abuse is going on either. Some people have taken it upon themselves to be cache police and tag cache pages they have a bug up their &*!t about with mean spirited bookmarks. As a cache owner we should be given the right to have these BS bookmarks removed from our pages with as little effort as clicking a button. Come on people a little help in this matter BEFORE it gets worse. That last part is a whole 'nother issue. If you feel a bookmark is abusive, report it to contact at Groundspeak dot com address. EDIT: Starting a new thread for this subject. Split off thread
  3. I dunno. I found that quite beautiful and elegant. Now, sorry to post and run, but I have an appointment with a blender & my hand. Gosh, that's fun too! Mebbe we can add music, too. I don't mind seing HTML on the actual bookmark master page, but not inserted into other peoples cache pages. That really is annoying - almost as bad as 'signing' the cache container rather than logbook. I don't want someone else 'editing' my page in that matter. Text - fine. Graphics? Errr, not fine. Annoying flashy pictures distracting from my literary mush-terpiece? Nuh Uh, oh no you DIN'T! *finger wag*
  4. I can guess Groundspeak won't put a list like this together, in part because of the multiple listing site issue, but more importantly, because they would then be held responsible for 'enforcing' it, which I doubt they have the time, resources or inclination to do. So, the geocaching community would have to do this, as you have started, CoD. In order for a group to claim they have a record, they would need, in my opinion, to make teh announcement like this or With teh latest situation, noone really knows what REALLY went into the effort, or whether the finds were legitimate. Already there are those who doubt the PREVIOUS record claim of that group. This way, if someone were to establish such 'standard' Rulesets, the community hearing about it could compare apples to apples, so to speak, and know what kind of accomplishment had been achieved. The question is, who is gonna set up and enforce these standards, as well as certify the records? Not me. I'm gonna go out, cache right, CITO and enjoy my visit with nature. And maybe kick vandi-cachers in the shins, if I see any. It's a good start CoD. Thanks for thinking of a solution.
  5. Your assessment of the situation carries extra weight in my book because or your ability to be on both coasts at the same time. No, Vinny and his wife share the same account - she just has a rather impressive restraining order against him. Something about loony Vinny or something.
  6. I think most people are not so much concerned with teh numbers as they are the fact that the team vandalized caches by writing ON them. That is something to care about.
  7. You either don't have very many caches or you spend one heck of a lot of time chasing down graffitti slugs. Well, two right now, and one is disabled due to flooding. But, if someone wrote on my cans (I'm looking at YOU, ctd!) I'd be grouchy enough to go fix 'em. So far as I know, noone has yet done this - and in my area, trying to make a caching record would be nigh unto impossible - not that many park-n-grabs of that sort here.
  8. I did an Earthcache once with n00b. There's no log at an Earthcache, and I felt like I had to sign something, so I tried to write my name on n00b. He was grouchy about that, too. In any case, there really wasn't much room to sign. What with all those tattoos. No tatoos here, though I wish you wouldn't have tried CARVING your name on me with with that rusty nail. The infection was horrendous. You'd be grouchy, too, dagnabbit.
  9. My .01 cents, adjusted for inflation: I spent time & money camo-ing my hides. Graffitti them and your log is gone. Additionally, I'll pull the cache and paint over the graffiti. Thanks, but no thanks.
  10. Whether they do smell it or not, it isn't the right place to discuss it. Go to Off Topic and make a thread. /Pro-life. Being that this topic was created in reference to my post, I think I am allowed to defend my post. I think when people are being dope, someone needs to point it out. Blah blah blah I disagree that that thread was a proper forum for discussing the issue. There is good cause to be concerned with idiots who cruelly & illegally harm animals for fun. They need to be stopped and evaluated psychologically. Additionally, your assumption that that topic starter and teh subsequent readers are pro-choice or pro-life (and therefore hypocrites of some kind), is just that - an assumption. Unless you know them personally, you're stabbing blindly. Thirdly, labeling your own post TROLL ALERT automagically makes you look like a firestarter, and thus not worthy of paying attention to - you hinder your cause rather than rally support. Finally, arguments are rarely won over teh interwebs. More often than not it becomes blowhards yipping like dogs back and forth, saying nothing constructive (and doing both sides harm).

  12. This is the closest thing I could find on SourceForge.net... Keep in mind that many people may not elect to do a cache where they are required to install software on their computer - fears of viruses, spyware and the like. If you use it yourself, you can put the info on the cache page and let them math it out themselves, I guess. hard to say, with no idea of the background of the cache idea. Whatever it is, good luck! Just make sure you have lots of gunpowder on hand. A couple of lightweight cachers won't use much, but stuff ME into that cannon cache_test_dummies is talking about, and I am afraid I would use up your entire stock. Google search results for ballistic calculator, tank
  13. 65 degress farenheit, moderate easterly breeze.
  14. Yeah, but most of them are in Wal-mart parking lots. A pretty durable surface. Good tips and worth following, but I bristle at the suggestion that most of us don't already tread lightly. Sure there are some inconsiderate cachers out there. Every user group has its slobs, but I find that geocachers are overwhelmingly very considerate of the environment and take care not to cause undue destruction. If your reply had come from some Joe Schmoe, I'd label you a 'fanboy'. Seeing as how (for those who don't know) you are one of the most active volunteers in NJ trail management, I think that your observations, good or bad, should carry some weight with folks.
  15. You oughta get two completely opposing (philosphically or whatever) tracts, put them as your sig item, attached to each other. Confused or offended... choices choices choices. And BadAndy, I will answer the most important question in your post: Thirdly is indeed a word: http://www.tfd.com/thirdly In accordance with Cybrets wise observation, I will now depart from this thread, never to return. Someone read me my last rights, even though I am not, or ever will be, Catholic? Thanks.
  16. Not the same. With your hypothetical store, it's not *in* the farbucks, and your not passing me a tract along with my venti nowhipped extra cafe mocha latte. Now here's a what if question that is obvious to ask, and has been asked, but is usually ignored as a rhetorical comment. But how about somebody actually takes it seriously and answers it... What if someone put literature promoting a homo-sexual lifestyle in a cache, and your kid found it before you did and started looking at the cute little cartoons? How would you feel? Depends on teh nature of teh pictures. If they were sexually graphic, I'd be as upset as if I found regular 'porn'. Otherwise, I'd sit down with my hypothetical kid and talk through the matter, and answer any questions as best I could. I don't agree with teh homosexual lifestyle, but I am not teach my kid to gay bash because I found one in a cache.
  17. No, what it means is that you need to worry less about getting your personal and off-topic viewpoint made in this forum and address the topic, which by the way has been discussed more times than I can count. Let me catch you up. Trade even, Trade up, or don't trade at all. What I said IS on topic. Nothing personal intended, but I think it's quite in-disputable that you are being repetitive. I have stated a valid reason for trashing that stuff out. I invite you to do the same, rather than repeating an unsupported statement. I'll be the repetitive one if you want. This stuff is offensive. Tracts are a direct statement that I am not only going to burn in hell, but that I am worthy of such fate due to my vileness. It's not at all unreasonable to feel offended by that. My argument is that this stuff is trash, not a trade item. I consider "nothing" to be an even trade for trash. PS: It doesn't matter how often it's been discussed before. The OP asked about it. It hasn't been discussed by me, and I have a right to express my on-topic and non-personal views. Wait - this isn't your personal opinion? Go ahead and be offended aaallllll you want. Instead of being a jerk about it, why not email the people who left teh stuff and have a debate with them? It isn't lik it is hard to find out if they left a detailed log.
  18. If I find food, porn, fireworks or religious tracts in a cache, I'll trash it out. It's not a trade item. It's trash. There's a huge difference between the first two and the last two. Food can attract animals that destroy caches. Fireworks are illegal in most places. Porn is generally accepted to be ADULT subject matter - it's legal, but due to teh potential exposure to children not mature enough to handle or understand it can be problematic for parents and teh kid. The last thing, tracts? Not appropriate for caches, IMHO, but unless you are mentally a child yourself, it isn't going to cause any damage, physically or mentally. Trade up, trade even, or don't trade at all.
  19. D'OH! Too true, my bad. I do love the software, but it can't do the job of teh moderators. Thanks guys and gals!
  20. But, your profile states that you are a premium member... Maybe logout and back in might help..... Okay, I'll try it... No, it still says that he's a premium member. Well done, sir. Well done.
  21. This topic mentions two versions of forum software: InvisionFree (no cost) and Invision Power Board. From the topic, it sounds like this forum uses the latter. Yep, more control, no advertisements.... More money. Worthy trade-off IMHO.
  22. More completely than you know, then. If you believe they shouldn't be there, I think you should trade them out. I'm so glad 2004 is over. I got really sick of trading for election material. I snagged stuff from both parties. I'm a political partisan, but I didn't think geocaching was the right venue for political agitation. It annoyed me to have to expunge the stuff I agreed with as enthusiastically as the stuff I didn't. This is a nice little hobby. I don't think we should gunk it up with religion or politics. Save that for the drunken family brawl at Thanksgiving, okay? Well, TRADING out is something altogether different. I remember threads where people said they just took them flat out, no trading. If you 'bought' whatever it is you didn't like via a trade, then teh item is yours to do with what you will. I have no problem with that. I do have a problem with people just taking them, like they are the high and mighty arbiter of political correctness. Perhaps we don't disagree as much as I initially thought. TRADE=good SWIPE=not good P.S. I leave nothing political or religious - I don't think it is an effective means of communicating ideas. I just don't begrudge other seekers doing so.
  23. Or the corollary: One should be comfortable enough with their own faith (or lack of one) to shut the freak up about it in mixed company. If they're not...etcetera. If you don't like 'm, don't take 'em. For probably the only time I can remember, I completely disagree with Auntie Weasel. Stuffing a cache with paper, of any kind, is a problem, but one or two little booklets, left by a FINDER and not teh hider? Relax, it's a diverse world. If teh cache hider left them, that is a bit of a different story - in that case it would violate the guidelines.
