  1. quote:You people are too funny! How often do you all actually run into other cachers on the hunt? I still haven't met any. But introduced a few to the game! It's too much fun sometimes! I've actually never met another cacher, though I may have evangelized one (soon). Only found 3 caches to date, for what that's worth. --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  2. <---learned that lesson the hard way. --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  3. I believe you need to register for the subscription/premium service. I've not done it yet, myself, but I think I will... --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  4. And when you're done reading that tripe, read the "About" link. What scumbags. --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  5. Actually that law is intended to keep people from drinking while they drive and killing innocent people. As far as what to do with your trash or incomplete 6 packs? Put them in your trunk where they belong until you get home or to the dump. Duh. --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  6. I don't know about where you are, but in our state, several 'bad' things have happened that put Campus Security on edge & on the prowl. I would most definitely get permission, simply because the UCops are gonna be suspicious. Your GC'ers are probably going to have to explain A LOT if they are caught on campus grounds without a School ID... --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  7. Do you find the compass that comes with the Vista (and not the Legend) to be accurate? Thanks for any info you can provide... --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  8. Um, I won't go into flame mode here, but I will say this. Cops only enforce the laws that the elected officials WE vote into office create. And I don't mind one bit if one of them stops and asks me questions if it means the one time out of 99 they do that they grab a pedo & bust them before they can claim another victim. I'd rather be profiled and help to protect innocents than let some poor person get 'whatever' because being asked a few questions inconvenienced me. Sorry, but I'm just not that selfish. And if you should want to be able to communicate without inciting a negative repsonse from the officer, may I suggest you read "Verbal Judo"? --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  9. the frogs look more like the alligator from the old Pogo comic strip to me... when I squint to try and see them... --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  10. I swear I'm gonna smack the next TV/movie studio executive that thinks "Extreme", "EXTREME!", "eXtreme!" and any other variation is an orignal (*&^%&^ idea. I HATE that word now. Extreme Mountain Biking! Extreme Bubblegum Chewing! Extreme STHU ALREADY! /rantoff --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  11. The eTrex Legend is a step down from there. It has a compass, but I don't know if it is electronic or not...*edit* Legend does not have electronic compass. It's about $200, and you'll need to buy the appropriate map CD, which costs about $100, depending on where you go. Otherwise, it meets all your requirements. (Legend has 8MB ram, Vista has 24MB, I *think*. I'm told that most people don't use all the Vistas memory. Dunno. Both are black & white units, by the way.) I'm happy with my legend, but as I get close to the target waypoint, I find funky things happen with bearing and distance numbers. Then again, I've only done 3 finds so far... *edit* Here is a Garmin eTrex comparison chart. --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  12. /agree And use hollowpoints for home defense, not ball ammo, for the same reason posted above: ball ammo will got hrough walls with very little resistance. Hollowpoints 'mushroom' and create more drag (if they dont break apart, even) and be stopped 'sooner'. --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  13. Sorry, couldn't resist. Just be glad most people don't know what a smiley bomb is. --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  14. Is reminded of Schrodinger's cat. Is it dead? Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes. No...(and so on) Just don't peek. --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  15. Glad that worked out for you. You should always be careful what you do with your unit. As far as reinitializing, I imagine turning it off/on should be sufficient. There is usually a display screen that listed the firmware revision number. Check the manual for how to find this screen (might be an "About" screen or similar). If it matches the update software revision number, you are all set. For example, my Legend currently is using Version 3.40, which is the most up to date according to the website. Good luck! --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  16. quote:How about I kick him in the shin instead? Oh, and uh... I don't live in Rome, so, uh... NOPE. That's just... wrong. No cup?!?! *winces in imaginary pain* (all in fun) --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  17. The only time I'd dig a hole is with landowners permission. If I have to, I'll find another way. The planting is still a ways off, mind you. --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  18. quote:Please continue fighting over me. It's perfectly acceptable. Like my email said, I'm not a committment kinda guy right now. Having said that, right now I like throwing jabs around now and then. *jabs Mopar in the eye - "Take that!" * --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  19. Thanks all. I'm not exactly sure who owns the land just as yet. The 'hide' is a ways off, as I am still planning it. Thanks again for the heads up! --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  20. Geez, I totally missed that page. DOH! Thank you... *slaps self repeatedly* BTW that example... Why? Just... why? --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  21. quote:Maybe that is what we should try with the Beaver Brook Association. Their land is not that far from you. They are private and have kicked all the geocaches out. Awww CRAP! I was gonna DO the Beaver Brook (GCGPXB) hike in about 20 minutes. Arrgghhh. Um, how did you know I was close to it? Thanks for the info all. Must chew the cud a bit. [edit: the solicitation I was referring to would be in the brochures ONLY-no log book or geocache web page] --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  22. Some off the generic brands are pretty raunchy... OK, so I'll rule out ANY item that is scented - the smell could also leach into paper products, etc. Thanks! --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  23. If you are granted permission to place a cache on a private conservation area, but with a requirement that the cache contain (in addition to the usual stuff) a handful of brochures that give info about the preserve, and also request (voluntarily) a financial donation for the conservation commission? One the one hand, they are letting you use the land, for no (required) fee. On the other hand, they are soliciting funds (to go directly to the conservation area). Is this acceptable to geocaching.com, or does it cross the line? (Also, what if it was just info on the preserve, no soliciting?) --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  24. I am unclear as to what a locationless cache is. All I know is they are not allowed, according to the guideline page. The curious cat in me wants to know what they are, and why they are different from a virtual cache or a physical cache. Please help? Thanks! --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
  25. Logically, no food should be placind in a cache because animals can smell it from miles away. I noticed in the guidelines for hiding caches, it suggested Play-Do. It has been my experience that Play-Do stinks up a storm - are animals attracted to this stuff? What about other scented non-food items that can't think of right now? Any particular do's/dont's in this regard? Thanks! --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here.
