  1. I'm thinking about leaving my old cell phone (working Startac) in a cache, but I'm afraid everyone will think it was left by accident.
  2. Slightly off topic. I heard an interesting tidbit on the radio today. There's some kind of flatness scale (I don't remember the name) similar to the hardness scale for minerals. A pancake is a .6, but the state of Kansas is a .3. So it seems that Kansas is really flatter than a pancake.
  3. A pint of good whiskey works a better than beer. The charcoal residue from the oak aging barrels acts as a bacterial filter in the bloodstream.
  4. He doesn't even know how to spell horizonitcaly...
  5. There are a lot of caches in PA. Here are these two: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...88-5c96c881011f http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...6d-b5cab2ebebb8
  6. Is it possible to delete the whole cachemate database from your Palm to start with a clean slate? If I do, won't the whole thing get downloaded again the next time I hotsynch? I loaded a bunch of waypoints on a recent trip and would like to get rid of all of them.
  7. Wal-Mart carries rubber rats during Halloween.
  8. I found the cache they were looking for this afternoon! It had 1/2 a bottle of water. I guess if you were really dying of thirst...
  9. I found a decent backpack at Wal-Mart in their post Back to School clearance for $3. I don't do any long hikes, so it is perfect for me. Since I started using it, I've been filling empty caches as I find them. The best part is that my Wife doesn't see (and doesn't complain about) my hoard of cache treasures.
  10. The cache I found yesterday contained three river rocks in various sizes. What a unique and thoughtful trade item for a cache that is hidden 4 feet from a dry creekbed (yes, they were rocks from the creek).

These things will be placed in a pre-wetted empty toilet-paper tube. Additional hints: Ybbx sbe gur 3 lbhat fncyvatf wbvarq ng gur tebhaq.
  12. quote:Originally posted by Mephistopheles:where the predators are more numerous and dangerous Funny you should mention that. I watched the 2 governers in Predator this morning, then did a cache by myself this afternoon. When I realized that it was so far out in the middle of nowhere, I thought that I was pretty stupid doing it alone (but of course I didn't turn back). After spending a few minutes at the cache (logging and trading), I replaced it and headed back down a dry creek bed towards the car. When I stepped on a loose rock and made a noise, I heard something take off past me about 50' into the woods. At first, I thought it was crashing through the brush right at me (which brought back a flash of a scene in the movie), but I soon realized that it was running past. The loud noise was caused by all of the dry leaves that had recently fallen. A few yards down the creekbed, I saw the tracks of the deer that I startled from his hiding place... I was pretty happy to meet up with some hikers (and their dogs) a little further down the trail. They probably thought I'd seen a ghost.

  14. I used a smaller version (2 qt) of the same container for one of my caches. I sanded and painted it with flat paint; I think it turned out ok:
  15. I saw this on a sign outside of a cache today. It's the logo of the Missouri Department of Natural resources:

  18. I think I remember John Belushi doing something similar in Animal House:
  19. In the picture, it looks like the limbs have grown around the rock. I doubt if that would have happened if it wasn't very heavy.
  20. Here's a link to Arkansas' policy and permit. They only allow geocaching in certain parks.

Welcome to the hobby! I saw your log on Son of the South this evening; I was there this morning myself. Make sure to look for my caches if you're out and about. I don't know anything about the GPS38, but I own an eTrex Legend and couldn't be happier. Make sure to buy one of the dual cords if you plan on using it in the car; it eats batteries like popcorn.
  22. There are many sizes of jars and bottles available on bottle.com. I'd order some, but I don't know that I want a whole case...
