  1. Re: registration I tried 'refresh' and 'shift refresh' - no joy, I deleted my history file, cookies etc - no joy. Is there a way to force my ISP or wherever the old page is being stored to refresh? I realise this is a provider problem, not GSAK but I appreciate your help. Thanks Dan
  2. HELP! I have sent my registration fee and received confirmation and a serial number back from Clyde. Where do I find the 'Help=>Registration'. I can't figure out where to register on line or in GSAK. When I go to the GSAK web site all I can find is version 3.03 to download not 3.04. I'm sure the solution is obvious, thanks in advance Dan
  3. Thanks, the screen was so dark I missed the contrast set up. All is well. Thanks again Dan
  4. There I was 35 000 feet watching the flight on my Legend when the contrast on the screen went to maximum dark. When I hold it in the light just right I can see that the unit is still working. Is there a reboot/reset for the Legend? I can't seem to find a contrast adjustment. Thanks, Dan
  5. Hey Sparky we got a great sense of humor, that why you steal all our comedians. Some people just take themselves too seriously. Eat all the eggs you want. small world BTW Sparky I'm up in Canada building ships for EagleMed Dan
  6. Looks interesting, a little on the expensive side for me. Dan
  7. Do a search centred on Niagara Falls (N43 03.388 W79 03.803) there are many good caches around Queenston (just north of the falls). Queenston is also one end of the Bruce trail which has several caches on or near it, so you can have a nice scenic hike of the Niagara Escarpment while cacheing. Dan

  9. A port replicator will work, a few more $ but fairly versitile. Dan
  10. I think that the circle may represent the accuracy of the base map not just the GPS. The roads on the base map have fewer reference points so the positioning is less accurate (like connect the dots with less dots).
  11. Chalk another one for the portsiders. I attribute the higher accident rate and shorter lifespan of southpaws to the stress of living in a right handed world, can you say 'Class Action'?

    Why PST??

Quote "Plus parts of Mexico and Canada, but they don't count " Yes we do.. 1 2 3 4... BTW the concept of Standard Time was invented by a Canadian Sir Sanford Fleming Dan
  13. Clyde: I tried the same thing at home, where I have the same data set of caches, and it worked perfectly. I guess that teaches me to not slack off at work. I have Windows 98 on a ~ 400 Mhz at work and XP on a 1.2 Ghz P4 at home. Thanks for your help, I'll let you know if I figure out the problem. I suspect it is the machine; it has eaten a floppy drive, a Cd drive, a hard drive and a power supply in the last 3 months. Dan
  14. Clyde: I have the latest Beta version of GSAK and when I generate a Mapsource file of Geocaches GSAK freezes, (the red bar scale goes left to right then another smaller screen flashes to fast to read and the program locks with the 'export file' screen still up) can you tell me what I'm doing wrong, I have 1300+ waypoints is that too many? Thanks Dan
  15. Amazing Clyde, thanks for the GPS upload utility and the new filter functions. It is nice to see Babel integrated, Gsak is the tool that will do everything I need. Thanks Dan
  16. The POI download is in the box on the upper right: Garmin Legend Updates Dan
  17. Marine Points of Interest (POI) From the Garmin Web Site; "The Marine Point Database (Americas) comes factory installed with the eTrex Legend, eTrex Vista, GPS 72, GPS 76, GPS 152, Rino 120 and Rino 130. The standard map coverage includes: 1. Cities with population 200K and above worldwide 2. Nautical navaids for North and South America 3. Tide stations for the US only (only viewable on GPS 72, GPS 76, and GPS 152) " also for the Legend download "If MapSource data is loaded to this unit, this unit's preloaded Marine POI database will be erased. Please download the file below to recover this Marine POI database. If you currently have MapSource data loaded into your GPS unit, it will be erased and replaced with this POI database" Dan
  18. Awesome program, my only complaint is that it dosn't have the base map information included south of 40 degrees latitude for the computer, while my Legend does. Halden; On my Legend the base map is permanent, but the unit came with the Marine POI preloaded and it will hve to be reloaded if I want that info. You can download it free on the Garmin website Dan
  19. I loaded my new Garmin MapSource MetroGuide Canada V4 and it dosn't show anything south of the 40th parellel (south of a line from NY city to northern California) I have a Gramin Legend and the basemap with it shows the all the major roads in North and South America, is there any way to upload this information to my computer? Thanks Dan
  20. Sorry being a new to this I wasn't sure of the size of the maps or 'how much I needed to load at once' and since I, unfortunately, am not familiar with the Southern West Coast of Canada I was trying to get a relative size in terms of Southeastern Ontario (AKA Golden Horseshoe) mentioned earlier in the post. I will look up the areas you mentioned to get an idea. In terms of area verses memory will a 1 acre island in a 99 acre body of water take up as much area as 100 acres of bush, or 100 acres of city? I assume more population=more streets and addresses = more memory used, but I am not sure. Thanks Dan
  21. Can you give me an idea of how much area will fit in your Legend? I live in the Golden Horseshoe area and am interested in the Mapsource products, but it seemed that my 8mb Legend wouldn't hold enough of the 300mb or so of the V4 to be usefull (ie will 2.5% of Canada be enough or will I have to drag along a laptop to reload maps between caches?). Thanks Dan
  22. Thanks for the link Todd, I'll keep a watch on that. I am hoping to buy a used version v3 from someone who was upgrading to the new version v4. Thanks Dan
  23. Clyde: Great program, it is the only tool I use any more. Is there anyway that I can filter the caches by cache type? say remove the locationless caches that I have added to the list. Also why are the locationless caches shown with coordinates? The distances to my home coordinates on some show as 2000 - 3000 miles. Thanks Dan
  24. I'm looking for the 30 Mb version of Map Source Canada for my Garmin Legend, if anyone can direct me to a good source or has one they are not using any more I'd be interested Thanks Dan
  25. Is there any way to download GPX files (say on a one by one basis for locationless caches) other than using the Pocket Queries? I want to add some locationless caches to my PDA. I have a membership with GeoCaching. Thanks Dan
