  1. Sometimes the post for finding a cache just sounds too phony to be true. For example, a person claims a fast find when a fast find is impossible for the particular cache. On a couple of those circumstances, I have checked the logs and found nothing for the alleged finders. I then emailed the alleged finders to ask if there had been problems signing the log books. When I received no response, I deleted the online posts. Phony sounding posts can be very misleading to future searchers.
  2. If you live in Michigan, please identify yourself so I will exclude you the next time I pick a jury.
  3. I should add that it would have been impossible for anyone to find the stage 2 microcache without at GPS. For it to disappear the same day as the final stage can only mean that the trasher had a GPS. The hunt required a three mile walk and there was only one person looking. I rest my case.
  4. I would take this one to a jury on a "beyond a reasonable doubt standard."
  5. I set up a difficult three part cache. Lots of distance between the three spots. It did not have many finders. This summer, a 15 year old mentioned that he had failed to find the first stage and begged for a hint. I checked to make sure all stages were in place and gave a hint. Two days later, I jogged by the cache sites and found the last two missing. I sent an email to the 15 year old kid askiing if he knew anything about the cache. His failure to respond told me all I needed to know. I figure he took some friends with him who were impressed by the geo-coins and travel bugs and couldn't resist taking everything. It seems that there ought to be a way to discipline offending members.
  6. And when I did all that (sort of since some is inaccurate), I got the waypoint nicely placed on the computer, but nothing in the GPS. At this point, I think the only way to get it into the GPS is manually entering it on the unit.
  7. I would almost prefer it if the cache maggot left a note. The first time my cache was looted, I thought maybe I had it in too easy a location so that someone might have stumbled upon on it. Then I reestablished the cache at a location where it could only be located by someone with access to the web site and a GPS. Within 10 days, it was trashed again. I think I may put it back in the same place with only a log book and a nasty note to the cache maggot.
  8. I thought cross country skiing and geocaching would be a perfect combination in northern Michigan. I set up a 5 part multicache on trails I maintain, but there have been no takers. There were a number of caches set up near the Vasa ski trail. So I tried to find them while skiing the trail system. But only one seemed to have been placed to make it accessible in winter conditions when we have had 70 inches of snow.
  9. The first part of Skiocache is hidden here.
  10. The 5 cache Skiocache is in place. Come and get it. But 33 mph winds might make it a bit nippy today. Don't forget to bring your skis.

How do you include a photograph in a forum message?
  12. It's just snow and here in northern Michigan, we now have a lot of it. I am going to give it a try. If the tracks are messed up, I'll just get out the groomer and disable the caches.
  13. Thanks for the suggestions. I do the grooming. No fee required. But I would probably disable the cache if the tracks were messed up by snowshoes.
  14. I want to set up a multicache that will, in winter, require searchers to use cross-country skis. Traveling by any other means would mess up the groomed trails. Would this make searchers without skis crabby?
  15. Thanks for all the tips. I now understand why it would be best to leave the cache were it is and start a new multicache.
  16. I want to convert a single cache to a multicache. But changing that feature does not seem to be an option on the edit page. Suggestions?
