  1. I already made my reservation, and will be somewhere close to sights 20, 21, 27 and 29. Anyone else make their reservations yet? I'd love to have a little camping neighborhood going on.
  2. I could see my house from this one: Rocky Hill II It was quite a hike. I took a picture of my neighborhood while up there, I'll have to find it around here somewhere...
  3. quote: I am going to teach my kids to buy a condom straight from the store, not a cache. I wouldn't want my soon to be 14 year old son using some condom out of a cache. A bad apple could poke the condom with a hyperdermic needle that carries HIV virus. So I don't see no lives being saved here. Think Again.......... Of course I would tell them to never use a condom they found in the woods! In fact, my husband has decided to use the Bill Cosby approach to teens and condoms...Make sure he's wearing it before he even leaves the house to pick up his date!!
  4. quote:Originally posted by upinyachit:A geocacher must have some serious issues to leave a condom in a cache. What would they be _STUPID OR SOMETHING_ Even though my kids are getting older, there is a proper place and time to discuss this. Just so happens a cache out in the woods isn't the place or time. Where has the morals, respect, and just plain common since gone to. I disagree. I've had some of the best, most in depth conversations with my kids while hiking. What other time do I have them alone, with no other distractions? I know they would actually be listening and paying close attention to what I was telling them because their interest was sparked by something they actually found and wanted to know about. The best time to have these conversations with our kids is whenever and where-ever the opportunity presents itself. It may not be how we planned it, but it could still save their lives.
  5. quote:Well, 3 hours later and $300 poorer, he comes out of the local Urgent Care Unit with a broken wrist, a soft cast, a sling and x-rays. Geocaching...hazardous to your health? -------------------------------------------- Yeah, but did you find the cache??
  6. Here's a picture I took on the trail to my first Cache hide (Horsin' Around) I also cache with my dalmation. After about her 50th hunt with me, she finally sniffed out a cache for the first time. she's not very bright!
  7. Since we're all telling our "adoption" stories... When my husband and I met 13 years ago, we both wanted dogs. He really wanted a Golden retriever and I really wanted a Dalmation. We had grown up with these kinds of dogs and wanted to replace long lost beloved pets. Our first two dogs we got after our wedding were from the pound, not a retriever or a dalmation, but still good dogs. Unfortunately they didn't last more than a couple of years for different reasons. My mom called me one day, she had found a 2 week old dalmation puppy in the street near the bank. When she (the dog) was 3 months old, mom brought her to my house (9 hours away) and we still have her. She's 7 years old now, and a pure bred. A little less than a year after we got her, we found a note at the vet's office, free papered golden retriever male. His owners were moving and couldn't take him with. We took him in too, he's 9 years old now. They're best buddies, and really good dogs. Even the dalmation is great, she's not hyper or aggressive, just a big people pleaser. She's my caching buddy because she'll protect me. My mom always said that the best animals we ever had were the ones that found us. Speaking of which, we have the best cat on the planet too. I found him as a kitten, dodging traffic in the middle of a busy street.
  8. Here's my coincidence, which can best be understood by reading this Travel bug's goal, then my note on the bug page: My bug
  9. High difficulty/terrain ratings. I love to do them, but usually hike alone. I'll tackle them when I can find a partner to go with me.
  10. 16,303 miles according to my personal TB. That includes caches done while visiting family members in different states. A cross-country move helped too!
  11. I got a huge stocking full of trade items and goodies: Rhino skin PDA case for hiking two mesh cases for my back pack straps to put the cel phone and GPS into hand warmers emergency whistles strobe lights batteries memory sticks for my digital camera emergency blankets emergency poncho's stuff like that, also got a USB splitter so I can have the GPS, digital camera, PDA and scanner all hooked up at the same time! A Geocaching membership...finally! Oh, yeah, and this little thing: a Yellow Jeep Wrangler!! I've wanted a Jeep for about 15 years, and it was time to replace the old Suburban. Couldn't pass up the chance to get a "fever yellow" one. [This message was edited by Tomebug on December 30, 2002 at 06:59 AM.]
  12. Well, I don't have the Trimble thing yet, but I do have the GC.com window cling in the front window, and as soon as it warms up some I have a nifty logo sticker for a side window, thanks to Rich in NEPA. It's even yellow! I also have the "I'd rather be Geocaching" license plate frame. So...it's getting there! And I think ArchieDH is right, it is so much fun to drive! Way better than my old Suburban, and I'll spend less than half in gas, phew. I just have to get used to the limited cargo room, but once I strap the kids to the roof there will be lots more room for geo-junk, haha.
  13. quote:Originally posted by Marky:Wow, if only you had your GPS in that picture, you could have logged it as http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=16379 cache find! --Marky "All of us get lost in the darkness, dreamers learn to steer with a backlit GPSr" How about this? Found it! Actually, I got the Yellow Jeep Fever cache already, it was my 100th find. As you can see, I definitely caught the fever!
  14. Not sorry yet, We're having a blast in the snow. Don't know if you can see it in the pic, but my kids have made a sledding run just behind the Jeep that drops down into the driveway and runs across the front yard. They spent about 5 hours on that run yesterday, and again today. Ask me again in February though. I'll probably be ready for some hot California sun by then!! Hey, thanks UMC. 15. Do I have a great husband, or what? Look what he got me for Christmas! So cool! We bought it the day after Christmas and picked it up last night.
  16. I rode my EX500 when I went caching on weekends until last December when my husband wrecked it. After 2 surgeries and a year, he's finally up and running again. The bike should be fixed this spring and I can't wait to ride it caching here in PA. The roads are great for bikes. Much better than LA freeways!
  17. The first thing I did, and I mean the VERY first thing, when I found out we MIGHT be moving from SoCal to PA was a zipcode search. Hubby was transferred, so we had no choice of where to go, but it made me very happy to see that we had about a thousand caches within 100 miles of our new home!
  18. I was directed to Ranger Clark Verchuck to get permission for a cache in a local State Forest, he replied very quickly with this form: -------------------------------------------- COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION & NATURAL RESOURCES BUREAU OF FORESTRY GEOCACHE IDENTIFICATION FORM This agreement is made this _____ day of _____________________, by and between the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Forestry (“FORESTRY”) and __________________________ (“RESPONSIBLE PARTY”). The RESPONSIBLE PARTY desires to place a geocache at the following location in _____________ State Forest District _____: SITE NAME (if any): ______________________________________ TOWNSHIP: ____________________________________________ COUNTY: ______________________________________________ LATITUDE: _____________________________________________ LONGITUDE: ___________________________________________ The DEPARTMENT is willing to permit the RESPONSIBLE PARTY to place the above geocache, subject to the conditions listed below: 1. Geocache container description (size, color, container material): ______________________________________________________________________ 2. This permission is in effect for the period beginning _______________ through _____________________ (not to exceed 1 year); however, the permission may be revoked at any time by the DEPARTMENT acting through a District Forester or designee. 3. PNDI Search Results: _________________________________________ 4. REPONSIBLE PARTY is not permitted to do the following: a. Earth disturbance or vegetative impact to the approved geocache site. b. Move or alter approved geocache location. c. Allow the insertion of hazardous materials in the geocache container. d. Other (state “no other conditions” or list other conditions): ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ 5. RESPONSIBLE PARTY will remove geocache on or before the date of expiration of this permission; however, if this permission is revoked, RESPONSIBLE PARTY will remove the geocache immediately upon being informed of the revocation by the District Forester or designee. 6. RESPONSIBLE PARTY agrees to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless DEPARTMENT and its agents from any claim for injury to any person or damage to any property sustained as a result of the placement or existence of the geocache or as a result of the use of the geocache by any other person with any device or for any purpose. 7. RESPONSIBLE PARTY releases DEPARTMENT and its agents from any claim arising from injury to RESPONSIBLE PARTY or any other person or damage to any property which might be sustained as a result of RESPONSIBLE PARTY’S engaging in geocache hunting. 8. DEPARTMENT does not assume responsibility or liability for injury to any person or damage to any property sustained as a result of the placement or existence of the geocache, or use of the geocache by any person with any device or for any purpose. 9. DEPARTMENT does not assume responsibility or liability for RESPONSIBLE PARTY’S safety or the consequences of RESPONSIBLE PARTY’S engaging in geocaching. 10. This agreement may not be construed as a waiver of any immunity DEPARTMENT may have. -------------------------------------------- I don't see a problem with the one year expiration date, as long as it is renewable after review (I'll ask him about that). I do have a problem with the liability part. Isn't this the same concern we had about the State Park liability stuff? I have emailed him about this, I'll post the response when I get it. Do any of you have suggestions? I will contact him again if I have good input for him, but I'm not a writer, your help would be appreciated!
  19. Seriously, I'll take him if we can work out a pick up/drop off plan. I think you're about 5 or 6 hours from me, I don't mind half the drive!
  20. "A mistake is one thing, especially if it is acknowledged. As for cutting you some slack, if you steal one of my caches, I aint cuttin you jack, ya thief!" Now you're calling me a thief? Do you see the ridiculousness of how far this rant has gone? (K2dave) "(esp. once she stole the 1st one and had time to reflect)." To both of you, she didn't STEAL them, she clearly stated to the owner where they could be picked up. Also, after time to reflect...It seems to me she did not get repremanded by the owner after the first one, so how was she to think she shouldn't handle the others the same way? Really, has anyone heard a complaint from the owner of the caches? I'd serously like to find out how he feels about this.
  21. I wonder if You're too far away for me to adopt him. I'd have a matching set!
