  1. ukcampsite.co.uk has a great forum with lots of friendly experienced folk happy to advise on tents n equipment for camping events etc.
  2. What about the newbie who maybe finds the geocaching site , spots a local event and wants to meet other cachers at the event to get more info, before taking the plunge and having a go but hasn't yet found these forums ? They would be excluded and it does say in the guidelines on events that they should be open to all.
  3. Having to find 2 other caches in order to attend the event would make the event one that is not open to all. A newbie or even experienced cacher could dnf on the pre attendance caches, and therefore wouldn't have the required co- ords for said event. In my own opinion no-one should have to find a separate cache/caches in order to attend any geocaching event.
  4. Don't they make a special small cylindrical towel with a string on it for drying out micros?
  5. Just saw THIS on the BBC News site and it looks like a large amount of land will be dug out/drowned. Was wondering how many caches will be affected when this gets the go ahead. Thames Water plan to build the reservoir on land between Wantage and Abingdon.
  6. You can drill into them and hide a cache in the resulting hole !
  7. Make sure t kettles boiled for 0800 Friday morning as that is the time we expect to arrive on site.
  8. You'll have to find THIS cache and wish for a new one.
  9. We are numb at hearing this terrible news. We too hope things turn out better for him than the current prognosis. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to him and his family at this time.
  10. I know who took the TBs and have emailed them asking that they book them out on the cache page.
  11. We paid a visit to one of OUR caches today and what did we find ? 1. The cache was out in the open. 2. The ammo box lid clasp was not secured properly resulting in a damp box. 3. Someone left a boiled sweet in the cache and logged it in the book , resulting in everything being coated in a sticky mess. 4. Quite a lot of pages have been torn from the logbook and removed. 5. Tb's showing up in the cache have been removed and not logged out on the web although logged out in the book. 6. A few cachers have logged leaving £1 coins but there are none in the box. We shall restock and replace it but if people can't rehide it as they find it then we will be forced to replace it with a micro next time, which would be a shame.
  12. That would be Skippy and Pingu who found the cache 7 days before us
  13. Whilst doing one of Mancunian Pyrocachers caches we found a pair of size 11 high heel shoes, a basque and a photo of a man wearing said items whilst having a ham shank We reported the location of the items to the police .
  14. I see what you mean and would also be unwilling to click on the links. Hopefully it will be spotted soon and removed as many of the GAGB committee surf the forums regularly
  15. If you find someone willing to adopt your cache go HERE to get the adoption sorted.
  16. As the congrats threads are still allowed doesn't that tell you something about the general consensus of opinion.
  17. That's true, but we can't all load FireFox on a locked down desktop at work. As for accessing the forum on a PDA, it becomes a pain in the 4$$ scrolling past all the congrats threads. But shouldn't you be working and not viewing these forums then ?
  18. If you use firefox there is an excellent greasemonkey script that puts a little cross next to each topic. Clicking on the cross makes the topic disappear. Hey presto , no congrats thread or if it annoys you. I have used it to get rid of the pinned congrats thread and others that i don,t wish to see.
  19. I vote the subject is only reviewed every 12 months and not sooner. Many of us are happy to see congrats threads. If ya don't like em don't read em ! Just my two pennorth.
