  1. congratulations! you do realise that you will never look at small dark holes, or ivy covered trees in the same way now. Always wondering.....
  2. firefox 3 keeps crashing on my machine. The firefox people are gonna get tired or recieving error reports from my latop. I gave up a couple hours ago and have switched to the dreaded internet explorer. Not much else I could do.
  3. could this problem be alieviated slightly if the Cache page contained details of the hiders GPS accuracy on the day of hiding. ie N51 46.021 W000 24.873 accuracy 12ft or something along those lines anyway
  4. i've become jumpy when caching. every muggle I see I always suspect of being a geocacher. Its such a dissapointment when it turns out they they arnt (either that, or they are very good at avoiding the other muggle in the vicinity... me)
  5. stealth camping is an interesting concept, with quite a few interesting applications. Like the ones mentioned above, camping in closed parks, getting closer to wild animals (not many of them in Britian, just foxes, badgers, owls etc) plus its supposed to leave no impact to the enviroment around you Last year, I swapped over from tent to hammock (I got myself a hennesy) simply because I was tired of waking up in the morning either swimming in water or with a pretty bad back ache, them spending 20mins trying to get the blasted thing squished down enough. Dont even have to worry about finding a flat bit of ground, just two trees.... or maybe a telegraph pole, drain pipe, sign post, luggage rack, etc I can put my hammock up in 2 mins, and it comes down in 46 seconds (seriously, we timed it) which is very useful, for not only starting my day earlyer, but it also means I can keep going for longer, and cover more ground. I am also not worried about getting myself to a camp site. I havent done it myself, but I do know of people who have actually slept on the footpath (well, right nxt to it anyway) because it got dark. Its not exactly legal in the UK, but quite the definition of stealth camping I believe. I also help out with Duke of Edingborough award (its an after school activity aimed at under privilaged kids, getting them to do new things like camping, comunity service, first aid, sports) and when your looking after 30 or so teenagers, you need all the time you can get to keep an eye on them (plus, they take all the good camping spots)
  6. well, this is a very interesting topic. Im ignoring the bit about guns. In the UK, gun control is very strict, and hand guns are illegal. Heck, I dont even think I could get my hands on pepper spray over here. I had a recent scare when caching by myself at dusk. Was walking fown a canal tow path, and although I was in the center of a town, I was fenced in with a half mile walk either way along to tow path, a fence on one side and the canal on the other. Couldnt even swim across to the other side. The bank was collapsing and completely over grown. Anyway, I approached a lock, but didnt notice a group of chavs fishing. One of the scariest things I have ever done was to continue walking past them while they watched me. Sheesh, even thinking about it now makes me shiver. They actually all stopped talking and watched mewalk past. I stuffed my hands in my pockets and tried to walk past as nochanantly as possible. Fortunatly, my mobile and car keys were in my pocket. Managed to get 112 dialed out and ready to ring and get a firm grip on the longest and sharpest key I could find. I know it was a completely stupid thing to do. I would never have normally walked down there at 9pm, so why I thought it was a good idea to do it then I will never know. Anyway, thanks for all the tips. Its been really quite uesful. Thankyou
  7. dude! that is class. always wanted to go to sea, like as my job. Closest I ever been to that was volunteering on the Prince William tall ship. Really quite envious.
  8. I had the same problem. Was dead exited when I found out that I could download cache locations straight to my Garmin nuvi. Im not quite sure what happened though. First I could only find about 5, so I tried re-downloading, then there were 15. Which was great. Started making my way through them all. Had a bit of a break, and the next time I switched my sat nav on to do the last couple, there were about 50, which is great. But when I tried uploading some caches for Strasbourg, it wouldnt let me, nor was there any function for removing the caches that I had already found from the maps. (Berkhamstead and Hemel are now a mess of little cache boxes, really quite annoying)
  9. wow. Just finished reading through this. This has been one of the most interesting forum threads I have read so far. I didnt realise that it was such a problem. I havent visited many caches, but the ones I have, I have tried to write up interesting logs. In fact thinking about it, something interesting has happened to me on nearly every cache I have visited. From being stung by nettles to spending ages looking for a cache near a water course, not finding it, slipping over, falling flat on my face in a lot of mud, which I thought was quite hilarious. I just hoped it brought a smile to anyone else who read it. I mean, when I read other peoples logs, Im not interested in who visited, im interested in what happened while they visited. so yeah, less abbriviations, more storys in my logs for future, I promise! (BTW; while lying in the mud, I spotted the cache, so all good in the end )
  10. hi there. newish to geocaching. Been having fun with it for a few weeks. First time on forums though.
  11. My job is indirectly responsible for my ability to cache during the week all over the place. Im a science technician in a school, and while I work full time, I get 14 weeks holiday every year (it unpaid unfortunatly) It has its ups and downs
