  1. I did some digging on google and found this: USA Quartermaster General Montgomery C. Meigs, in his annual report of 1866, proposed an economical solution for durable grave markers. He stated, “A design has been adopted for a small cast-iron monument, to be protected from rust by a coating of zinc, to have in raised letters cast in the solid, the name, rank, regiment and company of each soldier or officer. One of these will be placed at the foot of every grave and will remain when the wooden headboards decay and perish.” Check out these sites: cast iron tombstones in Tennesse more about cast iron tombstones The tombstone you found definetly has a masonic marking on it. As you will see from the above link these type of tombstones were used in the tennessee area so I'm sure they were used in south around the the civil war...
  2. Has anyone done a multi cache done up like a road rally?I remember as a kid going on road rallys where we started at a certain location and had to get clues from each of the following locations to get us back to the finish line before everyone else. I suppose each leg could be a virtual or an actual cache that would give a clue to the next cache. It could be new coordinates or a puzzle to solve dealing with the area the cache was placed. Was just wondering.... I think this would make a great group event..

  9. The next time you are in downtown Branson. (The old part of town) Check out Dicks 5 & 10. THis place is a treasure trove of stuff. Each aisle is packed with all kind of goodies for young and old alike. If you cant find good swag items there then you are not trying.
  10. I just want to know where you can find a cup of coffee for a dollar???
  11. If someone logs a fake find on a cache that is missing, which encourages me to go out and look for a cache that is not there, then it's a waste of my valuable time. As an owner, a fake find will tell me my cache is there and OK, when that might not be the case. This could delay needed maintenance. You hit the nail right on the head Brian. I went out twice looking for a cache after someone had just posted that they found it. We looked half hour each time and came up with nothing. Since my last visit 4 other cachers have had the same experience. ( No cache!) Granted we had a nice hike both times and saw some great Autumn view along the way, it still would have been nice to find the cache. I posted a no find and said I wouldn't try again until someone else confirmed it was there. It has not returned nor has the cache owner replied to emails sent to him by other cachers also looking for answers to where it is. Being dishonest about a find just ruins the game for the honest people. I don't have a lot of time to cache but when I do I would at least like to know that the logs I'm reading are legitamate and my hunt will be a positive experience.
  12. I did a cache like this recently but it was set up as a mystery cache. There was a code word written to the back of the magnet that I needed to email to the placer of the cache . We had a blast looking for this one. I don't want to give too much away but it was a picture on the flat sheet like magnet that was strategically placed on the object ( cache holder) that had us stumped for a while but we laughed so hard when we figured it out.
  13. Thanks, I owe it all to all the great people who have helped me with my questions.
  14. Up at the top of the page is a members button Click on that then enter the name of whose profile you are looking for and do a search
  15. The mini M&M containers are also water proof because I did my own experimenting. I put it in a sink filled with water and it just floated for hours. Never leaked. But I do worry that the plastic hinge will become brittle in the cold weather or just give out after it has been open and closed a lot.
  16. I have only one name and one account but I change my avatar once in a while cause I get bored.
  17. It might mean signed book (logbook) thanks for the cache. Not really sure about the /o .
  18. Yesterday I found a Where's George dollar bill in a cache and it was laminated and a sticker on it said to log it on Where's George and then place it in the next cache. Now there are two schools of thought out there on Where's George dollars. One says that these dollars should be spent just like any other dollar bill and that is how we track their natural flow through society. The other is people just moving them from cache to cache but logging them. I truthfully dont care which way the dollar bills are moved but the purist think they should be spent and never placed in a cache. This is not a normal movement of currency. The guy who laminated the dollar I found obviously just wants it to stay in caches and never spent like normal currency. Is this acceptable ( probably not!!).
  19. I have had my Garmin extrex Legend since September and these are my thoughts on accuracy. When you first turn the GPS unit on make sure you wait a few minutes for the GPS to pick up satellites.. After a few minutes my accuracy is about 19 ft As I get closer to the cache I find that my accuracy is usually dead on 0-3 ft I then check the coordinates and they are usually dead on too. If my GPS says I'm that close I'm usually standing still and thats when the unit starts to spin. You have to keep moving to get accurate readings. When I'm 10 feet away i just start to look. Once I find the cache I place my GPS right on top of it and check the coordiantes again for accuracy. I make a note if they are drastically different then the ones posted but that has never happened to me yet.
  20. Is it a yellow Jeep? I need to find one of those so I can log the Yellow Jeep cache.
  21. Sculpy!!! You just gave me a great idea. I got that stuff. I really like the clay feet idea. My fellow geocachers, you are so talented, inspirational and innovated. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me a reason for hope in a world that constantly wants us to give up hope.
