  1. I have been contacted by someone who would like a geocacher (or geocachers) to "star" in a film about geocaching. I quote his original message: I've been in touch with him and have got this additional information. If anyone in that area can help please e-mail me and I'll put you in touch with him.
  2. This is a Geocaching forum and promoting a "political" petition really has no place here. I hope that any personal feelings I might have for or against the aims of the petition have not influenced my decision to close this thread for being "Off topic". Topic closed.
  3. As Deceangi said, it's being looked into (actually only one reviewer standing in a field scratching his head at the moment ) but even if it turns out to be a "commercial" cache it is so old it is considered "Grandfathered" so wouldn't be archived just because of the commercial aspect. Lack of maintenance is another matter......................!
  4. Nope, see my reply to MrsB. I have a multi like you describe and that is how they usually come but the one I'm talking about isn't! 5 containers with log books and swaps and counts as 1 find. Although the 5 intermediate logbooks ar totally superfluous and actually serve little or no purpose the rest of it sounds like a perfectly valid multi cache.
  5. Very well done Neil, just goes to show what can be achieved with goodwill on both sides.
  6. Hello Mrs Red, I see that you registered last week and have yet to actually do any geocaching. Once you have done so and once you have read some more of the forums I think you will discover just how responsible Geocachers tend to be. I hope you find the area lives up to your expectations. Thank you for your first post. Lactodorum UK Forum moderator
  7. Hi there and welcome to Geocaching, I hope you enjoy the sport as much as many people here already do. As for getting started my best advice is to look at the top of the list of topics where you will see Multiple Pinned Topics This contains a load of useful information including a section specifically aimed at newcomers. Once you've digested all that, if you still have questions please feel free to ask any questions.
  8. I agree, lets wish them well. I won't be able to make it either but I hope you have a great time and manage to get the required 500 visitors.
  9. As caches can only ever be unarchived by the reviewers I'm a little surprised that so many are involved. It's only very occasionally we unarchive caches. Perhaps you could e-mail me some examples?
  10. Hi Nick, thanks for checking first, so many people don't bother! First off, there's no requirement to have found a cache before placing one so don't worry about that. Even so it might be a good idea to get a feel for how they are usually put together but that's purely optional. Looking at what you are proposing 1) and 2) are fine. 3) Is not a good idea as Geocaching uses the dd mm.mmm format and WGS84 datum rather than OS Grid and OSGB. In any case you MUST include Additional Waypoints for all stages (including the Final location as a Hidden waypoint) and these can only be entered in the normal Geocaching dd mm.mmm format. You can of course use the OS grid in the descriptive text as well. 4) You don't have to have intermediate stages 0.1miles apart, just ensure that any physical stage of your cache is more than 0.1miles away from any other cache. I hope this helps and feel free to e-mail any of the reviewers to discuss your plans privately if you want to. Good luck with your first cache
  11. Sounds very complicated! Hardly any more complicated than any existing Multi cache. The only difference is a link to the Wherigo cartridge.
  12. You might find it helpful to check out Which Gps ? which can be found in Multiple Pinned Topics as this is a common question.
  13. Yes, I know cache advertising is not normally allowed here. However, given the unique international aspect of this series I'm happy to allow discussion to continue.
  14. Sorry to shatter all your red blooded illusions However this person is deliberately setting out to cause problems and thrives on the oxygen of publicity and reaction. Discussing them here only adds to this so for that reason I'm closing this thread.
  15. You are not alone and this person has already been brought to the attention of Groundspeak.
  16. You should well know that Reviewers don't always have a precise answer. Many is the time that we have been criticised for not being precise enough and for being vague in our explanations. Neither do we have a hidden set of guidelines which are different from those written down by Groundspeak. What we try and do is to interpret those fixed guidelines to achieve what we believe to be result appropriate to unforseen or particular local circumstances. I will concede that this can lead to inconsistencies but for this I will not apologise. We believe that we do this to the overall benefit of the Geocaching scene in the UK, and thanks now to Croaghan, Ireland. The only thing hidden from you are our feelings and instincts upon which we rely for much of the "work" we do. What may seem right for a particular circumstance on a particular day may well be different at another place at another time. That's life so get on with it.
  17. Possibly like these and these you mean? corrected link Deci
  18. Yup! Published as soon as it got dark this evening. Enjoy
  19. How about Reviewers' Revenge? Nothing gets published unless it's a large ammo box, at least a mile from a parking spot, and full of useful items costing several quid. Ah! memories
  20. Having played with the evaluation version I've now forked out for a good chunk of 1:50K mapping and registered the product for my N95. It's absolutely amazing! I just generated a GPX file from GSAK of my local caches and have quickly imported into Viewranger where the caches are displayed on the OS map. It looks just like Memory Map in operation and certainly will make a very nice integrated Geocaching tool to carry around with me at all times.
  21. It's been a little while since we've had any trouble in this forum so I think I can now post this guide to preferred forum etiquette here. By doing so now I hope I can safely exclude any possibility of anyone being identified
  22. As there's a perfectly good link to 1:50K OS maps via Streetmap.co.uk on each cache page already (see links to Online Maps just before the logs start) would it be possible to somehow link into this? A random example is here http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=41...ar=Y&dn=678 taken from GC111VE.
  23. We could go on discussing it until EVERYONE was satisfied but we (the reviewers) decided that actually implementing something was probably better than endlessly talking about it. Some will be unhappy, some will be pleased and many will not care. If, once it's been running for a while we find it could be improved we can always tweak the boundaries.
