  1. Found it. On the trip computer page, press MENU, select RESET and it shows waypoint memory used and current track memory used. Yes, I have it set to auto archive, but sometimes I like to manual save for different legs of a trip. Thanks.
  2. I found this previously, but have forgotten where. There was a menu function, or page that showed me what percentage the current track log was of the maximum track log size. I like to manually archive a track during trips, and this was a good way to see how full the track log is. I looked through the manual, but the manual does,'t get updated with new features, so may not be in it. Thanks in advance for the help.
  3. A couple of note on Pocket queries that i found useful. 1) Select the option at the bottom of the page to add the query name in the file name. Makes it easier to keep track of them on the GPS and/or computer. 2) I found with my Garmin 62s that it worked better if I deleted the old GPX file, then did a power on/power off on the GPS before loading the new GPX file. It seemed to clean out the old waypoints better. Good luck.
  4. You may want to drop them in a Premium Member only cache. Those caches would tend to have serious cachers that understand the value of trackables. It would help ensure the trackables move to the next leg, but not much you can do to control it after that.
  5. I have a 62S that I've use for Geocaching for about 4-years. It's up to date on firmware, but has an issue that I've recently noticed. I will be driving, or riding my bike and I approach a geocache waypoint and stop. At that time I notice the triangular cursor stays stationary even though I'm walking around. The track updates from time to time adding addition points (blue line), but the cursor/map stays frozen. I end up pwering down, then power up and once the map comes up, all is good. It doesn't seem to matter if I had set a waypoint as a target and was using navigation, or just driving/biking up to a waypoint without setting as a target. A few months ago I left the batteries out overnight while charging them and when i powered up, it had done a reset and seemed to be back to factory defaults. Since then i did a full factory reset. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,
  6. Try going into settings on the ap (3 dots, top right) and under map type, selecting Apple (Street, or Satellite, or hybrid).
  7. I "thought" I was paying $25 a year, but just noticed a $9.99 charge on my credit card. I checked my subscription and it shows as 3-month renewals at $9.99 each. That's $40 a year. Too much for me.
  8. Thanks for the replies. I'll take your advise and leave it as is and move it along. I'll pick up my own trackable and start my own tech. Yes, I do have it. The only option I have is to "Discover" it. When I first picked it up, I couldn't log it as Retrieved.
  9. I picked up a simple dogtag type trackable. It looks so bare without some type of add on. It's a "technology tag" so I was thinking of adding a small piece of "technology" to it (it has a chain on it). Is this considered bad form to alter a tag? Thanks for any input.
  10. Thanks for the replies. The inability to turn off Geocache waypoints is probably the bigest short comming that i have found with the 62S. All things considered, it's a nice unit.
  11. I too am a new GPSMap 62 user and just recently started to use Basecamp. It's a learning curve from my old Magellan and Mapsend. There was some great info in this thread (especially the part that janandsteve said about removing old PQ GPX files, rebooting the 62 then loading the new GPX files. I have a few questions as it related to the 62 and Basecamp. -Is there any way to "turn off" a set or group of waypoints on the 62 (without having to connect to a computer). What I would like it to be able to turn off all my geocaching waypoints when I'm using the 62 for work. There are so many, it clutters the screen. -In Basecamp, is there a way to search by entering a set of coordinates? Thanks in advance for the help.
  12. Yes, That's how I did it and it seems to work fine. It is also described here (for a different model GPS) http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=226579
  13. I too am new to the 62s and it is so much different than my old Magellan Meridian Gold. One thing that I have figured out is how to get the Pocket Queries onto the 62S. I use Windows explorer and simply copy the files to the Garmin. Connect the 62S with a USB cable. Windows should pop up with the option box. Choose to "open folders and view with windows explorer" Then copy the files to the \Garmin\GPX folder. Note: The Pocket Query needs to be extracted first if it was delivered as a zip file.
  14. Thanks Ibycus for your efforts. Do you have a donations page to contribute? I am a brand new Garmin user. Just picked up a GPSmap 62S. So far I like it. It replaces my old Magellan Meridian Gold. So far I have loaded Mapsource and installed Ibycus version Topo version 2.0 (or was it 2.1?). It works well, but the one thing that I am missing is the ability to show vertical profiles. I'm involved in radio communications and I use it for doing path profiles between radio sites. I was wondering if Ibycus version 4.0 Topo in MapSource will provide vertical path profiles? I see that he mentioned that “Also there is a new version of the underlying dataset for the topo data.”. I was curious if this “dataset” is what is required to display vertical path profiles. Thanks in advance for helping a newbie.
