  1. I'm studying for my Technician's license. My problem is getting to a test site when they offer the test... between work and school (college) I'm super busy. I've emailed the local club to see if there is an alternative test date, so we'll see.

I've also been reading the posts here and at other sites I've found on the internet about the different radios available. I think I'm going to go with a handheld because I live in an apartment and can't put in an antenna, nor do I have room for anything indoors.

We'll see what happens, maybe within the next month or so I'll be on-the-air.

  2. Well, my fiancee and I love the outdoors, but for the demographic info, here you go:

I'm not an engineer or in IT, I'm a former Marine looking into law enforcement. My fiancee is a high school special education teacher. Both of us are also in school (Him: AA-Political Science (but will be continuing his education); Her: Master's of Education (M.Ed.))

Both of us are computer literate... our jobs require it, and it's a great source of communication and information, so...

Oh yeah, and as for the fantasy/roll-playing games I never played Dungeons and Dragons, but I do play Warhammer 40K... my fiancee is not a player, but she does chuckle as I sit and build my models for the game... she calls them "Rich's dolls".

I think I found the common link though... all of us have pets, especially cats. We've got three cats: Luther, Toby, and Blanche. Plus we feed the local stray, whom we've named Peaches.

  3. I found one of these... I took the small furry creature and read the instructions:

    1. Do NOT let it come in contact with water.

    2. Do NOT feed it after midnight.

Funny, last night I heard the shower running, and I found the refrigerator door open this morning... and I can't seem to find my new cache critter!

Ancient proverb: One is never lost. Wherever you are, you are there. -- And with a GPSr, you are within 3 meters of wherever there is!

  4. For those of us who love getting lost in the woods... or who get sidetracked by tracks and trails while caching:

"The first track is the end of a string. At the far end, a being is moving; a mystery, dropping a hint about itself every so many feet..."

-"The Tracker" by Tom Brown Jr.

Ancient proverb: One is never lost. Wherever you are, you are there. -- And with a GPSr, you are within 3 meters of wherever there is!

  5. We usually the next few that we'd like to go find in the home area. If we're going to travel we just look up the ones nearest our area.

Ancient proverb: One is never lost. Wherever you are, you are there. -- And with a GPSr, you are within 3 meters of wherever there is!

  6. Sometimes it is better to have and not need, then to need and not have.

If your compass starts to spin wildly and your GPS goes screwy... and you know you're not at the North Pole... chances are you're about to become an abductee!

Ancient proverb: One is never lost. Where ever you are, you are there. -- And with a GPSr, you are within 3 meters of where ever there is!

  7. The only time I've been followed while wandering about I walked in a nice big circle and came up behind my 'tracker'. I watched the guy look around for about ten minutes, then, as he turned to walk out I spooked him with a cheerful, "Good afternoon, sir!"

In the Marine Corps, I would have been given a medal for an ambush like that... but, since this is a civilized game, I'll just take the chuckle I got from scaring the bejeezus out of the poor soul.

Ancient proverb: One is never lost. Where ever you are, you are there. -- And with a GPSr, you are within 3 meters of where ever there is!
