  1. If you've got an iPod classic already and a GPS then you can go paperless usinf them both. So easy and no new technology to buy. My HCx GPS gets a good signal in 95% of places and the iPod is updated once a week. So easy peasy even for an old git like me.
  2. Also helps if the cacher makes sure they note the fact that they have taken TB/Coin(s) from a cache and which ones if possible/room. Nothing worse than seeing them gone with no notation in the log book.
  3. Anybody know where I can find carttons depicting Geocaching as I want to design my own Geo orientated Christmas Card. Thanks
  4. What does that phrase mean? Be like us both retired so that word W*R* is never a diversion anymore.
  5. Does anybody know if the ipod Touch has a contacts section and does it use the .vcf file format??
  6. Maybe Mandy should put her PDSA info in her signature line then
  7. As a relative newcomer to Geocaching I thought I would give the forums a try but from what I have seen and read so far they are ok but being ruled by an everchanging set of rules. I have found that on most forums that if you are one of the 'in' crowd you can get away with most things but on here nobody gets away with anything, step out of line and get a ban or your thread gets closed. Not for me thanks, I shall just enjoy my caching without the forum.
  8. Six new ones showing up now, not back in the Horsham area until October but will definately tackle them all then.
  9. Have got Memory Map V5 for Southern England, was going to buy the DVD for the complete UK but then thought WHY? so will buy the different regions as and when I want them. I always print out an A4 map of the area I want and once I park take it with me for reference.
  10. Personally I have given up trying to get one of these. I feel that if Garmin want me to participate in a publicity game of their making then the least they can do is to ensure that the supplies of the items are available and in sufficient quantities when they are supposed to be. Maybe I will see one in a cache somewhere but in the meantime I shall sppend my time hunting caches rather than the impossible.
  11. I realise that GSAK can probably do most of what I have said but I just find this easier and at my 'old' age easier is good. 'Retro' can't say much on that one except that Retro is the latest thing.
  12. Nope, I just think it's good and just simply telling people about it, anything that makes life good is worth talking about. As I have not had it long I am still playing with it and finding out more and more about it.
  13. Always print a map of the area from Memory MAp and take a compass with m just in case I need it, although I only use the map for checking footpaths and just rely on the GPS and intuition.
  14. Still playing and exploring and now found that you can also include photos you take at cache sites, view all of your finds/to finds on Google Earth by exporting them all out to a Google Earth file, and there is even a basic web site building function. It ust gets better and better. Will keep playing and tell more soon.
  15. Been playing some more and have found that if a cache has an extra waypoint for parking this also appears as a P sign. Has now saved me any future work in copy & pasting co-ords into Memory Map for each cache and parking spot. Gonna have so much more time to get out and enjoy. Best money (£12.99) I ever spent, take my advice folks go to the website and look and try for yourselves.
  16. Just rung two branches of Millets (Truro and Falmouth) and neither have had any in yet and don't know when they will get any in, maybe by the 2nd week of September was the estimate from one.
  17. Just been playing with it a bit more and have just discovered that it works well with Memory Map and will export all of your 'Found' and 'Yet to Find' caches out to a Memory Map CSV file that will use the LordElph icons. Definitely making my life a lot easier now as I can plan well ahead for all the areas I am going to travel to. It would appear that it will also export the Cache info and logs into an iPod as well so will be trying that soon. If anybody wants to know more message me and will tell you what I have found out as I play more.
  18. Not only is it a problem of finding caches that are big enough to take TB's and Coins but some of the TB's are getting so BIG
  19. Don't know if anybody else on here has tried this program, I was looking for something to keep a track of the cahces I wanted to find and those that I had found. I already used GSAK to transfer the cache notes to my iPod but wanted something a little less complicated for tracking purposes. Did a quick search and came uop with this package that has so far proved to be easy to use but very effective at storing the info on what I wanted, even has a seperate log for TB's. If anybody is interested have a look at Geocache Log
  20. I can always read it although sometimes I just shield it with a hat or something. Must admit I do have the brightness set at the max but then again I do have small cateracts which don't help.
  21. I have a Legend HCx which does the job really well, with the opensource maps. So as I can be paperless I use my iPod to carry all the info I need in the way of previous logs, hints and spoiler pics if need be. The iPOd is easy to use and a lot of us have got them. Must admit if I didn't already have the iPod I might have thought about the Colorado
  22. I'm in the UK, I have managed to load the cd ok and used the original unlock code but beacuse it was matched to my Vista when I unlocked it that is all it will work with so it looks like more cash to GArmin for another unlock code
  23. When I got my VistaCx I also got a TOPO map to go with it and of course the maps were unlocked for that unit, now the Vista us u/s and I have a Legend HCx and want to use my maps with it but oh no they are locked to the Vista. Short of giving more of my money to GArmin for a new unlock code anybody got any good ideas?
