Must be model orientated as just checked on both mu Vista Etrex's (Legend HCx & Vista Cx) and the both change the Datum automatically when I switch between British Grid and Degrees and Minutes.

If any of you (or your friends) are diabetic and use the 'one strip' tester, the tub that the strips come in make good micro containers.

I must admit that although it is a splendid piece of work I am not sure about it remaining as it would set a precedent and to many things like this would soon spoil the Dartmoor scenery.

How do you do that please?

I don't think anybody has asked anyone to do anything illegal on here. I do agree that the cost of getting the 1:25000 mapping on a PC is bit out of everybody's means (unless you win the lottery)

At the moment only 1:50000's come up with a couple of 1:25000 for specific areas like the lakes or snowdonia. Looking for a Soth England or whole GB

A small pointer in the right direction would be appreciated as I have hunted on Ebay and no joy.

Just been browsing the Vodafone site for this phone and none of the bumph mentions anything about GPS facility or the onboard maps.

Trouble is they dont do that version any more.

Is it possible to use the LordElph icons using the GSAK method? I use Geocache Log and when I export a .csv file for Memory MAp it uses the LordElph icons (if you have downloaded them) must admit they look nicer

Just remembered a cache we searched for and DNF, it was on a Tor so there should be pleanty of room for larger type caches, this is the spoiler photo And it wasn't placed by a newcomer to the game.

We both prefer the Army Surplus COmbat Trousers 95 issue, they are tough, dry quick and are good value. Plus pleanty of pockets.

Never had any problems with info limitation on my iPod classic, I usually store around 200 cache notes on it with most of the previous logs included and all works fine for me.

Do you have an iPod Classic or iPod Nano? If so you can go paperless using that.

Whilst the 'I don't like Micros' thing goes on we would like to have a few words on why Micros are good in certain circumstances. We have visited some brilliant locations along the coast path in Cornwall where Micros have been used and to be honest in most of these locations it would have been difficult to hide anything much larger. But these Micros took us to some fantastic spots that we might not have visited if not for Geocaching. Today we have walked a short stretch of the Grand Western Canal and found 3 Micros in locations that would not really be suitable for a regular sized cache and once gain we probably wouldn't have walked this canal had it not been for Geocaching. Although I would not want to see a host of Micros placed in open places that are quites capable of hiding a large container comfortably they do have their uses in built up areas to encourage people to take tours around the sites, and it makes it more interesting as well. And after all it is a game and a hunt is a hunt no matter whether the end result is a Nano, a Micro, a medium sized LockLock box or a full sized ammo box the enjoyment for us is the hunt and retrieval of said item not the goodies that it holds. If there are goodies then we will do a swap and if not we sign the log and replace. For us Geocaching is a hobby that we enjoy, we don't get carried away and try to break records as we have a life to live and are happy if over a week we can get out and find 10 (we are retired but have other hobbies) and anymore than that is a bonus.

Yes it does look as if it is turning into a 'them and us' theme but I will just say this: Who started it? And as a last word from me on the subject, all games/sports/hobbies/ways of life change with the times, so why not Geocaching? Just enjoy the thrill of the hunt, whatever the size and shape of the cache you are hunting for.

When I read threads like this one I really wonder why I bothered at all. If all of the oldies want to play the game their way then please do so and don't go looking for any of the caches set by newcomers. Just continue revisiting all of your precious oldie ones. The 'game' will soon get boring for you. I did an enjoyable small series down in Camborne, Cornwall that took us round the town, it included two magnetic nanos, 1 magnetic key keeper and a good sized box for the bonus, the nanos were placed in busy areas of the town and the fun was to retrieve them without being spotted. Not everybody wants to clamber over hills and muddy footpaths all the time. During our holiday in Devon some of the caches set up on Dartmoor were so desolute that you needed to walk for a couple of hours to get near them only to be on a Tor with a hint that said 'Under a rock' so which one of the 3,000 rocks is that then. Maybe the 'Oldie Letterboxers' who use Dartmoor would like us to leave the moor to them but it seems that unlike some of the people on here they have a more open attitude to necomers and other people and 'games' Geocaching is for all types of people from all different areas with different abilities and aims, so leave us be and do your thing and let us do ours. I shall just continue in my own way searching for the caches that I want to find (I actually enjoy the hunt for some micros/nanos) and set what type of cache I think is relative to where I am hiding it.

Must agree with the last post, according to both Google Earth and my copies of MemoryMap and Anquet Maps the location appears to be in a totally public location and not next to/in a graveyard. So either the cache placer has his co-ords well out or the OP is worrying uneededly. Micros and Nanos are fun to find but with so many families with young children getting involve now it is nice to see larger boxes appearing. I have just left 4 caches in Cornwall to be maintained by a local cacher and 3 of these were large enough to accept swaps and the other was a micro just for fun but at least I will give somebody's family a bit of joy in visiting the area I chose (un cached up till then) and in finding something in the box. Micros and Nanos have a place in our 'game' but they must not be allowed to swamp and take it over.

Yup, that banoffi pie was good, and it was nice to meet the friendly Cornish cachers who were there. In answer to those who say 'leave it to the locals' I only place caches in the places that the locals do not seem to want to and avoid. I leave them with log books that will take about 200 entries and they are good quality lock/lock boxes or medical quality micros. The kind cacher down in Cornwall who kindly offered to maintain them for me has been left with enough material to do so easily. As I have a very vivid imagination I see places for caches that others dont and just thought that I would leave a couple .

Oh well, thats our 3 month holiday in Cornwall finished, next stop 1 month in Somerset (near Taunton). As we were lucky enough to meet a fellow cacher in Cornwall who agreed to maintain a few caches for us we will be hoping that we can find another kind cacher in the Taunton area who will do the same. When we get back home we will set a few caches out there as we only got into caching after we had left home for our 6 month holiday tour.
