  1. Charter members are members who have been premium members without lapse since the ability to be a premium member was introduced in 2001
  2. In the email from Garmin they said they change the unrecognized tag to found. That seems like a strange default behavior to me. Most people get GPX files of caches they want to find, not ones they have already found. (Except for the MyFinds PQ) This is most definitely a Garmin issue IMHO.
  3. I know of at least one Occupy geocacher.
  4. Do you have a tentative route yet? It would help knowing so we can suggest caches. I know lots of great caches but some of them might be out of your way.
  5. If you are using GSAK this can be fixed. Go to Tools-Options On the Advance tab/Page 1 on the bottom of the first column is a selection to fix the log date problem.
  6. I believe a couple years ago a Meander of Geocachers was the leading contender. It describes the pattern of a group of cachers following the compass looking for a cache.
  7. I don't know for sure but I believe it is illegal to stop alongside a US Interstate except for emergency situations. Regardless I wouldn't stop on the side of an interstate for a cache. It is much to dangerous.
  8. You need to purchase a trackable in order to track it on this site. Once you own the number you can put it on anything you want. You don't need to attach the tag, however many people will not know it is a trackable without the tag. You don't have to have a premium membership to release or log a trackable.
  9. Create the cache page but DON'T select "Enable cache listing. It is ready for review.". Then you can do anything you want before the reviewer sees the page. You can adjust the coordinates, edit the page, anything you want.
  10. Yes I did know it wasn't a cache. I posted for three reasons. One, I am so immersed in geocaching that anytime I see GC I think about caching. Two, I think that geocachers would be imminently qualified for this job. Three, I think that GCHQ should be the Cache ID for Groundspeak headquarters, that makes it on topic. Thanks for knowing me MrsB
  11. and in another post in order to make this thread on topic. Why isn't GCHQ the cache code for Groundspeak Headquarters? The cache is unpublished and would make a great vanity code for headquarters.
  12. I just noticed a new cache with a very old GC number. The BBC reported on cache GCHQ a puzzle cache with a lifetime salary possibility if you can solve the puzzle. More information is at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-15968878 Anyone fancy a go at this one?
  13. I drove that road in a Infinity Q45 that National Car upgraded me too. It was an interesting ride to say the least.
  14. Not knowing which phone you have this is just conjecture but I think you have answered your own question. Both apps are taking their positional data from the same GPS (probably not a GPS but a triangulated position from the cell towers) and getting different locations. This would indicate that the position being supplied to the apps is different. A different phone could help as the GPS algorithms have been improved in newer phones, some even have a true GPS chip in them. But in the end a GPS will do better than the phone in most cases. (Note: I cache with my phone on many occasions, sometimes even pulling it out alongside my GPS. Several different phones have given me vastly different experiences)
  15. I use the maps from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ when I travel to Japan, they are route able and free. Occasionally you get a one way street marked as two way but I have had very good success with them.
  16. Every member of your family can log a find even if they don't have a premium membership. It is Groundspeak sanctioned. The only thing a premium member only cache prevents a non premium member from doing is view the cache page. If family members find a cache with you have them go to this page. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?WP=GCNJVY Replace the GCNJVY with the cache code of the cache they want to log.
  17. </div>[/div] Looks like the Div wasn't closed.
  18. Some people use the BadgeGen macro that is available for GSAK to create profile badges. You can find GSAK at www.gsak.net
  19. I believe that GSAK writes those additional waypoints as waypoints. On your GPS hit find and then waypoints.
  20. It also takes into account size of cache, and how many of the recent logs are found vs DNF
  21. I never take a vacation from geocaching. In all seriousness, usually extra batteries and lots of hotel guides. Geocaching trips seldom ever follow the path I had planned.
  22. Wow!!!! Usually I just overlook some post. But this one has so much bad information in it that I just must respond The best caches are always about location, location, location. Take a look at the caches near you that have lots of favorite points and you will find with few exceptions it is about where the cache takes you. So the first thing you want to do is to pick places near you that you would want to take a friend to visit even if there wasn't a cache there. After that you pick the container that can be hidden in that location. I don't want to be taken to a trash filled park, if you wouldn't spend time there on a date I really have no desire to see it. If there are needles and condoms laying around I really don't have a desire to be there. There is a reason that some locations on the map don't have caches there. This is some good advice. Let me know why the place is special to you. All caches should have permission. Take the time to find out who owns/controls the land and get permission to place your cache. This will reduce the chance of problems later, such as trespassing issues. Every place has an owner. The problem is finding out who is responsible for the maintenance of the property. How about permanence issues? School property ok to hide a cache? How about writing clues on the back of a billboard? What about placing a cache in a National Park? What about having cachers going to a site that they have to register at to find clues? Can you do these things? Only by reading the guidelines will you know. They don't take a lot of time and will help your cache get approved. Besides you are going to indicate that you have read them. Don't forget to check the box that says that the cache is active. Otherwise you will wait for much longer for the cache to be approved.
  23. You could open another premium account just for the pocket queries.
