  1. I just got back from Venice before Christmas. I used maps from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ and they worked quite well.
  2. That seems to be fairly global. Naturally there are folks with ratios both above and below the 10% mark, but I think 10% is the norm. Those with higher/lower ratios could be better at finding, worse at finding or failing to accurately log their attempts. I'm sitting at 1614 finds, 186 DNFs, which, if my math brain cells are awake, is about 8.7%? I love my DNFs, as they often reflect the best adventures. Since I revel in my cache finding suckiness, I joined a Facebook group created for such purpose, ISAG. (I Suck At Geocaching) https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/EyeSag/ 11.5% but no one is counting.
  3. Curious as to how you arrive at the 10% figure. I know you stated most cachers that log accurately and not all cachers. But from personal experience I wonder how true that is. I feel I log my DNFs accurately yet I am running a <4% DNF rate(according to GSAK anyway). Take a look at the cachers who posted their stats on this thread. Just about 10% for the four that I saw. It seems to be that way any time this thread pops up. It is only an observation and I am sure that there are lots of exceptions.
  4. But if you were a quarterback you would know your pass completion percentage, a basketball player your free throw percentage, a baseball player your batting average. I could go on but the point is that your skill level is only complete if you show both sides of the equation. My numbers Found 5816 DNF 661 As an observation I have noticed that anytime this comes up the percentage is just about 10% DNF for most of the cachers that log accurately.
  5. Depending on what part of the country you are in if the cave has bats it is probably prohibited to go into it. There is a big problem with white nose syndrome and many caves are restricted in an attempt to reduce the spread of the disease.
  6. I wish they would fix the lock on road bug. I am tired of going back to switch it to no.
  7. Posting soft coords is LAME!!!! Also you should know that Google maps are sometimes off by many feet. Please don't use it to verify or get coordinates. Edit for spelling
  8. Hey Jon, You can send all those coins to me and I will distribute them for you. Wouldn't want to bring that mojo into your home.
  9. Just stop using it. No way to get rid of it, just change your email to an address that doesn't exist and stop using the account.
  10. It is kinda hard to tell from the picture. But it appears to be an imature bald eagle. I would expect to see more white on the base of the primary feathers for a golden eagle. If you could see the legs better it would be easy to tell. The bald eagle does not have feathers on its lower legs while the golden eagle does.
  11. You can use mine, not as many caches but 10 countries, and 1418 US counties. I also don't use the generic GSAK, INATN, mycachingprofile stats.
  12. You say that the search comes up as empty. That would indicate that you haven't connected to geocaching.com. The important line from the Cachesense FAQ is Try a different Internet protocol in CacheSense, open CacheSense Options | Internet, switch to WAP2 or TCP/IP then save and restart CacheSense. It sounds like the caches you are searching for are ones that have been saved into the internal list. More than likely they are very far away and you are seeing distance to cache in miles, so when you walk towards them they don't seem to get closer.
  13. If it is like other Garmin models it will show a D on the bottom of the signal strength bars on the satellite page.
  14. I would guess that the road crew knows that the cache is going back. That is why they marked the hole. But it is a safety hazard to have a hole that a worker can step into or drive into while working in the area. Without going to the site we don't even know that the cache is gone. Perhaps it is just a temporary cap over the cache until they get done with construction. At any rate all the discussion is just guesses. For all we know the CO and Hemlock are in contact and will re-enable the cache when the time is right.
  15. If I remember correctly EasyGPS won't work for uploading PQ's with all the information. Try GSAK.
  16. It is no longer available. I have put in a request to have it reinstated and you can vote for it here. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=287963&st=0&p=4934648&fromsearch=1entry4934648 But I think you and I may be the only ones that used it if votes are any indication.
  17. I can't remember the exact user name but if you include Mitsuko you have to include Soapy Boy Someone please correct me on the username. Loved reading those logs back in the day.
  18. The advantage to PQ's is that you can load 1000 caches at a time with one file. If it were me I would use one of the caches in the area and load a circle of 30 miles. Then load all the caches into your GPS. So what if you have extra caches in the GPS. You might just be able to find one of the others on your way to the place if mom has to stop for a rest break.
  19. If I remember correctly you can share settings of a bookmark by giving out your address when editing a PQ Try this link http://www.geocaching.com/pocket/gcquery.aspx?guid=e18d0b52-676c-48c4-8e5f-044bcab54553 It should give you 500 earthcaches in Oklahoma. I just copied the address line when I was in the edit a PQ page.
  20. Very nice, I did notice one omission though. Between "Officer recognizes that a film can is not large enoughto hold a receiver, a power source and enough explosive to cause harm" and "officer goes back on duty" you need another selection box. It should read "Officer likes making things go boom and has been overlooked for EOD squad several times." A no selection goes to "officer goes back on duty" a yes selection continues on the "EOD is dispatched" path.
  21. The cache listing doesn't make it clear that part of the cache is finding the log. I would let it stand.
  22. I recently found a liars cache that I had been working on the puzzle for many years and although I had an idea it was a liars cache I still was surprised by the cache when I found it. That being said I took the cache owners advice and called before seeking and as a result I got to spend time with a great friend and his family.
  23. In years past the ability to link to a latest photos page was one of my favorite ways to seek out caches that I wanted to do. When I was stuck inside I would look at the pictures that other cachers had taken and when I saw a picture that looked interesting I would bookmark that cache. I have found some of my favorite caches that way. Please give us a way to look at the latest pictures again. As an aside I also miss the pictures on the banner for the home page.
  24. I will Completely AGREE with you on that... Even though, depending on your intended route, it could be an additional 6 Hours driving for it. Either way, You'll love the cache!! The Steaks I'm going to disagree with Mingo. Other than the fact that it is the oldest cache in the world it has no other redeeming qualities. If you are going to be in the area I would say grab it for its historical value but I can think of hundreds of better caches.
  25. Go to http://www.geocaching.com/my/statistics.aspx Just above the tabs will be a button to update. If it tells you that the statistics were updated XXXXX minutes ago that means the site doesn't think you need an update as it has been done recently.
