  1. but I am there for the cache...not for a meet and greet. Really? - you don't want to meet other geocachers? I quess somebody sent out a 911 since GVSU4MSU and Johngie are suddenly in the forum. Please undrstand; I am blessed to cache with my CHILDREN, and my fellow caching buddies with their CHILDREN. Therefore, hypothetically ---> It feels creepy to me to go to the yard and home of a person who: has a free account, that has posted an invitation on the internet to come look around their yard, and around their garage whil they and their neighborhood watch? Along those lines, I have neighbors. I like to be a little more considerate toward them. I am talking about ME, WHO-DEY and based on the replies on this thread, others as well. I have met many cachers. I have met them in many different ways. They/we are an awesome positive, fun, adventurous, large group, with a few exceptions. And those exceptions have unfortunately tailored my (and locally others) attitude. Some cachers, are not completely sane, are irrational, self glorifying, petty, ignorant, dishonest, angry, and threatening to those they oppose. So the mix of random cachers is not 100% in a direction that I am comfortable digging around a random person's yard with my family at my side. It is just creepy. Are you talking about this thread? or the forums in general. Man all these generalities really confuse me..... (if you notice, I have been around a while. I just prefer to go out geocaching than to post here. It is way more exciting to me) I am not sure where you are caching, but those are some strongs words relating to cachers. I hope there are non of those "types" where I cache. GVSU4MSU - I know you have been around for a while. You are a busy cacher, no doubt. I have been to many of your caches. You are involved in MIGO as well..right? between work and a family, my time is devoted to elsewhere in large part. I love caching, and intentionally get out with my son and friends when I can. I also and stop as I drive around W MI taking the long way when I can to find some off route caches. And as I mentioned, "Yes", the above referenced adjectives are intended to refer to a local cacher around you and I. I am pretty confident you know exactly the local cachers I am referring to. They are strong words, I agree, but they are not overstated by any measure. And that is not only my perception, but other local cachers as well. Possibly I do, if they are who I think you are referring to but I guess since I have met them in person I have no issues with them. I guess people are people..... Therefore you likely only know his side of the abuse and threats he has spewed at other cachers, myself included. You should see the emails threatening both me and my family. I am not the only one he has done this to. You can say people are people ... but that gives no license to be abusive to others with no provocation. Can you, as his friend, really tell me that he has not caused any issues locally to others? I dealt with this with GC.com/Groundspeak. Per their direction he can no longer email me, address me in the forum, and must avoid all/any contact in general toward me. I know you and John are his friends. That is great....you both have done loads to help the hobby grow and sustain itself here in West Michigan. You should report all threats towards you and your family to Groundspeak, that's not tolerated at all. Team Desert Eagle - please do not address any comments to me any more. You are not to address me per Groundspeak.com direction. THE PERSON WHO THREATENED ME AND MY FAMILY IS YOU! For others benefit, You were called SUPERFLY at that time, but you have now changed your name to Team Desert Eagle. I will be forwarding this post on to Groundspeak.
  2. having it with you all the imte would be the only advantage for me. the update lag is where I can see some inaccuracy taking place. If FTF is you favorite fairyland...then you will always be in fairyland with a smile on your face. Notifications anywhere you are is the key. Being that I do not care about FTF's, I am great with the Oregon400t.
  3. that is pretty impressive. I think at the right time of night, that would make me soil my pants if I walked up on it.
  4. Put in that context, I can see where you're coming from. The two of these that I've done where from more "established" cachers and the caches were old enough that I didn't feel like I was being baited. Oh, and the wife and kids were inside the van waiting for me (and armed to the teeth. Poor Alabama Rambler never suspected that a sqaud of ninjas would have jumped him if I so much as whispered the word "tatanka".) if established, and I knew them, or of them, the creepy factor may decrease. But the neighbors etc...I just do not think it is real considerate....Thanks for understanding...and I am glad your fmaily ws ready for Rambler....I here he is devious.
  5. I will say that for the FIRST TIME that I cam recall (and I do not check often) I had WAAS lock after the reset. I always have it on...but never had it lock. I still need to cache to really determine if that worked.

  7. GVSU4MSU - GC128QR has been archived since October 2009.
  8. I contacted GARMIN regarding this, referencing this thread. Here is their reply: It sounds like there might be some software corruption in the device. To delete this corruption, I would recommend resetting the device. To perform the Master Reset, please follow these instructions: NOTE: By doing this reset, ALL user information will be ERASED and ALL settings will be defaulted back to the factory settings. Please make sure to save all information to the computer before doing reset. 1. Power the unit OFF. 2. Press the Power button and top-left corner of the display. 3. When the unit powers on, please release on the Power button, but continue to hold the top-left corner of the display. 4. The unit will ask you "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO ERASE ALL USER DATA?”. Once you see this, you may release you finger on the display. 5. Press on Yes. 6. Put the unit outside with a clear view of the sky for a minimum of 20 minutes to get satellite data. 7. The unit is now reset and has found satellites all over again. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Thank you and have a great day! With Best Regards, Heath H I did it...sill see if I have any difference soon, when I can get cachin'. -WHO-DEY

  12. that is a prtetty cool one. Does it ever get muggled? ..I would guess not, as it is a mailbox, and most do not open them.
  13. Yes, or overrwrite the old ones. If you set up a PQ to get delivered once a week, it comes each week with the same file name. Its just a matter of plugging the oregon into the computer, and dropping the new *.gpx files (after unzipping them) into the (oregon memory)/garmin/gpx/ directory. Lots of related info here - http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/ sduck - I do the same. It is easy..every Monday they arrive in my email. Drop and go. very nice.
  14. COOL LOGO HERE IS A LINK TO THE PAGE ON GARMIN.COM: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=70144#featureTab AND HERE ARE SOME SHOTS FROM GARMIN:
  15. when will this be released? site says MARCH 2010. Some on this thread said it would go live 2/18 I think.
  16. My error on the color. I am used to seeing Weim's like this. More of a silver/smoke. Your girl is beautiful.
  17. iPhones are not designed to be as accurate as a GPS. Don't believe me, Try and find a few caches placed by an iPhone Obsessed cacher with his/her iPhone. They are usually WAY off from what say an Oregon or other GPS would show. Caching "iPhone Style" is really for FTF obsessed hounds mostly. I would agree with previous posters. Use a GPS. It would be very nice to be able to try and cache anywhere you are or go...although you may not find all of the caches you set out for. Just my $.02
  18. here are a few of my dog, LucyBell. She is a 3 year old Hungarian Vizsla. She LOVES to go with us. She is non-stop the whole time...it is amazing. FOLLOW ME! I CAN SMELL IT. IT IS AN AMMO CAN!!!
  19. wow did I think that was a Vizsla....
  20. OK, a couple things. 1. I agree with you. I hid 7 caches myself. One is a micro. And the micro is listed as a micro, and it is not put under the lamp post skirt in a store parking lot that 8/10 times should not be there if the store managers were asked permision. 2. Never say any of Bittsens posts are "right on". Even if you think that it may be close to being correct, never post anything like that on a public forum. It is like throwing a bucket of water on a puddle, it just makes the mess big enough that people can't simply step over it, they need to go around it.
  21. Preach it! In a similar vain, this past weekend a local cacher logged a multi in our area. This was a very well thought out multi that leads you to a lot of public art here. His comment (in part)? "If I were a teacher grading this cache... I would give it a C." The cache placer is very active in our community having placed nearly 150 caches in this area. Guess how many US hides this cacher finder has placed... that's right, none. REQUEST: lets not turn CO's into saints here. I believe, if a CO really, 100% placed a cache for others, it would be more than a duct taped film container in a lamp post. It is as much for the owner as it may be for the finders. Micros are apropriate in some areas, like cities etc. But they are in parks, and fields etc. In our area, it is almost as if some owners want to claim territory or parks as their own, but will not invest in making it a worthwhile adventure for the people you claim they are doing it all for. So they do a bunch of micro's....r multi'micro's. So, please, lets be humble in our assumptions when we generalize the reasons people place caches.
  22. Nope. He doesn't HAVE to log online at all. In fact, he doesn't HAVE to even sign the logbook if he doesn't want to. A person can, if fact, grab the coordinates, find the cache, and be completely happy with never making contact with anyone else in the geocaching community. That would be a bit anti-social, but there's simply no way to enforce anything upon someone finding your caches. If you are second to find, but know the first to find doesn't log on line... No Rules, Claim First to Find! there are no FTF rules anyway..none...so claim it EVERYTIME you find a cache.
