  1. Interesting question instead of North America there are seperate maps for the United States and Canada. There is a map for South America, which will appear when you have found caches in any of the countries there. It is strange there isn't a map of North America, but instead of this continent just seperate ones for USA and Canada, excluding many countries.
  2. I agree mostly with CAVinoGal, in addition: Attach a small laminated card (or something similar) with the mission written on it. Personally I wouldn't choose a cache that is visited regularly, because this is probably an easy traditional. Easy traditionals are often found by one time cachers and cachers who have no idea what a trackable even is. A mystery or multi cache might take longer to be found, but at least the cacher who found it has a bit more experience and is more likely to take good care of your trackable.
  3. I don't see any "trackables owned" on your profile. So before dropping your trackable in a cache don't forget to activate it.
  4. The only thing they really worry about is if you try to bring any alcohol on board. Never had any questions on any cruise line (we were on a NCL cruise last month) about our gps.
  5. How was your trip last year? Did any of the given advice help you or did you find another solution?
  6. Airport: if you fly directly from the US there is only one airport in the Netherlands: Schiphol (Amsterdam Airport). If you are travelling around Europe and using budget airlines coming from another country another airport might be more logical. The best way to travel in/to/around Amsterdam is by public transport. Public transport is the easiest if you want to visit main cities in the Netherlands, if you want to go outside the cities and explore it's better to rent a car. Be aware taxi's are a lot more expensive here compared to the US, but also when you rent a car: expect to spend more because of gas prices, parking costs etc. I would have to know how long you'll be in the Netherlands (in both places), where you're staying and what want to do to give you more detailed info on transport. Don't worry about finding someone who speaks English, almost everybody does. But it is highly appreciated if you speak a few words Dutch instead of just starting in English knowing everybody will understand it anyway! With respect to geocaching: there are many many geocaches in the Netherlands. So I would suggest to do some homework on which ones you really want to find, otherwise you'll end up spending lots of time reading caches pages and finding containers instead of enjoying our country. If you'd like any suggestions just give some more info on what type you like (for instance: quick finds near sightseeing spots, or multi's guiding you along sightseeing spots, old geocaches, specific types like virtual/Wherigo, challenging geocaches, geocaches big enough to exchange trackables etc.). And if you like to meet other geocachers of course can post a message here, but you could also see if there are any events now or in the near future near the locations you'll be staying and ask the organizers if they could help you set up a meet a greet event. This way they can help you pick a suitable place and time and of course they can help you with any info on local caches you might need with respect to language issues etc. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions and enjoy the Netherlands!
  7. Looking at the logs of this geocacher (last log Jan 16, 2017) and the fact he has trackable in his possession since July 16 2016, I'm afraid this geocacher is no longer active. So I don't think there will be any response. To shabono: welcome to the website and this great hobby! Thank you very much for taking time to try to solve the issue by visiting this forum. I agree with cerberus1 that you should sign the log and log a find on the website. And please also write a "needs maintenance" note on the specific geocache page explaining that you have the cache. If there is no response within 3 weeks (it is holiday time) you could then write a "needs archived" note. You have a nice story now on how you found your very first geocache and I hope you'll continue to find geocaches and have lots of fun!
  12. A couple of months ago we did a very fun, mostly indoor, multi cache in Germany: Come In And Find Out - CIAFO. The first stage was outside a museum, the next steps were inside. So you needed the gps to find the first waypoint which gave info on how to find the next waypoint inside. The following waypoints were more like a letterbox (since there is no gps-reception), but at one of the stages there were 2 alternatives to find the next stage. Since we couldn't find option one, we had to get our gps from the lockers which we had put away with our bag thinking we wouldn't need it indoors. We needed the gps because the second option was using the chirp. After finding all the waypoints we got the coordinatees for the cache, for which we needed the gps again, since it was outside.
  13. Really liked the Spaceflight Academy as well, the museum is really worth a visit! Wondering how many caches are at a museum, since the entrance fee will be an issue to get them online normally, this one is part of a Geocaching adventure, so has different rules. With the virtual we recently did, World Cache Final: Cambridge Museums, this wasn't an issue, because the two museums we had to visit have no entrance free, just ask for a voluntary donation. A perfect cache for a rainy day, our timing wasn't perfect though because it started to rain when we were finished with our visit to both museums .
  14. The one in Singapore is nice, we found it several years ago. Recently we found one at the airport of Hamburg: GC4EN84, a very nice one and perfect for trackables.
  15. I think that cache owners who feel the need to accomodate tourists already have (part of) their cache description in more than one language. Not every cache is suitable/interesting/meant for tourists, they are meant for geocachers. If you, as a geocacher, want to do a specific cache that is not in your language I'm sure you'll find a way to manage the language issue. Why does everything has to be made easy? Next step is that you have to attach an arrow (including a pen and an umbrella) to the wall/tree pointing to the cache so that people who can't read, have an empty battery, forgot their pen, have issues with sunlight when they read a cache page on their phone, who's printer was out of paper, who simply don't have time to prepare for a geocaching trip/vacation, have a family with them that doesn't want you to search for a cache more than 5 seconds, don't like caching in the rain/cold/heat, are on a busy trip and only have time for one cache in each country preferably inside their hotel, need to find a cache when all satellites are down to keep their streak alive, not in the mood to solve a puzzle etc. etc etc. can find any cache. So instead of a hint in English on every cache I propose a large arrow including a pen on the wall/tree next to each cache. Of course I have some additional wishes like an automatic log when I sign the cache so I don't have to have an internet connection, search the gc code etc., but let's start easy.
  18. The caches in the Netherlands and Portugal (part of this world cache) were found before anyone visited the museum in Cambridge to get the necessary info. When we said we didn't want anyone in our team who thinks it is more important to get a FTF instead of doing the cache as intended by the cache owners, we were told that what they were doing was also according to the CO's intentions. We read the cache pages several times, but apparently to these people only the sentence "find the code of the object" is of any importance, all other sentences are less important. Refusing to cooperate with people who share codes, claiming FTFs without even having a team, we made ourselves less popular. Especially here in Europe sharing codes, coordinates etc. seems to be something geocachers do more and more. Complete databases with (TB)codes, solutions and coordinates are shared among groups of cachers on Facebook and other sites. It's sad, not only do they miss out on a lot of fun aspects of this game, but they will never learn anything new, everything must be quick and easy and statistics are more important than the experience they could have had. Of course that's their choice, or as they say "everyone plays they game the way they like to play it", but what they forget is to have any respect for the cache owners who put in so much effort to set up special caches. But when you try to explain this, their response is "we gave a favorite, so the CO must be happy and shouldn't complain, he should be glad his cache is found that's what counts". The only thing you can do is ignore these cachers, focus on the ones who do the cache as intended and enjoy their stories. Hopefully when all FTF/STF/TTF are gone, only cachers who are really interested in doing the cache (instead of just logging the cache) will participate. Although I expect the cache info of the caches in the Netherlands and Portugal will be in in all databases as soon as the finals are published and found. For those who really want to enjoy the international team aspect it is important to check whether a cacher has already found the cache before forming a team, and then just ignore these cachers and form a team only with those who are willing to wait for the info they need to find their cache.

  22. Maybe this one: Krabice posledni zachrany / Survival kit
  23. I'm from the Netherlands and can help and hope you can do the same for a similar cache: Travelling around the world .
  24. Yes, but this is in the guidelines under the subject title Choose location wisely. So it means the cache itself can be logged without having to contact someone, when you are at the right location (so you shouldn't have to ask for it etc.). This requirement doesn't state anything about the process to get to cache location.
