  1. I guess I've gotten a little spoiled with my topo software
  2. Do you find the base maps adequate for international travel? My wife and I are headed to Europe thursday and we plan to do a few caches while over there. This is our first trip out of the country other than Canada, and I was wondering if any of you have any input on this. Thanks
  3. Will be glad to take a few TB's with me to Europe if anyone is interested. Just e-mail me at jrandtking@hotmail.com and we can arrange some way of getting them. I will be going to London, Belgium, Amsterdam, Germany, Switzerland and France. Will be leaving August 11th. Just let me know.
  4. Does anyone know C & J Priddy from Walkertown, NC? I personally don't know them but they are the last to log a post for a TB that a friend of mine owns. My wife and I are going to Europe in mid August and my friend would like for me to take the TB with us. If anyone knows them, please ask them to contact me. My friend and I have emailed them. No replies. Here is a link to their profile page.C & J Priddy I understand things happen, just would like to know what's up. Thanks!

  6. Hi all! My wife and I are celebrating our 25th anniversary in August and are touring Europe for the occassion. We will be staying at the Novotel London West hotel a couple of nights before heading to Belgium and other countries and were wondering about caches nearby within walking distance. I've looked at Chris-n-Maria's Tube Map, but I am not certain of the location of the hotel on the map. I would really appreciate some help please Would also like some advice on places to eat and places to go. Any help with the eateries and places to go can be emailed to: jrandtking@hotmail.com Thanks, The King Kachers James & Tammy Grove Hill, North Carolina
  7. My or our caching name translates to.....Phil The Smurf and my real name translates to.....Erotic Smurf Just copying everyone else so I too can remember my smurfy royalness
  8. Checked out your "Features" page of your website. Loved the comparisons with sex page! Hilarious! Thanks
  9. Unless it's real wet outside, I wear my nike walking shoes. But when it is wet outside, I wear a pair of Danner boots that my mother in law gave me for Christmas several yrs. ago. Have had them about 10 yrs. now. Still keep my feet warm and dry. The arch supports finally wore out recently though. Don't know about other boots, but these boots I have with the wedge sole design rarely slip. This is the boot I have. They were $125 when I got mine. They've gone up right much!
  10. Who is yo' callin' slow? We ain't slow. They be grits yer referrin' t'as white moosh LOL ah like a fine old Coky Cola fo' bustfast mahse'f.
  11. When I first started, I relied on my GPSr almost totally. Then I started reading on these forums. I've learned not to rely so much on my GPSr for the last 30 feet or so. What I've been doing lately is getting as close as I can by the coordinates. Then just standing still or I'll set my GPSr down and let it settle down for a few minutes. Sometimes I can get within a few feet of the cache this way. Had one the other day though, was 70 feet or so off. Instinct came into play then.
  12. Mental note to self: Buy an engineer's hat before going to train themed caches That just might work LOL
  13. That is an electrical box designed to go in a concrete floor. Made by "Steel City" I think. We have alot of those in our school system.
  14. I found out about it from a metal detecting forum. I was reading a post one day and noticed the guy put a link at the bottom of his post, so I clicked on it and read about it. I bookmarked the website and a little time passed before I borrowed a friends GPSr and found my first cache. It was on then! Call it hooked, addicted, obsession or whatever, I love it. Just don't get enough time to do it. I bought my own GPSr at the end of September 2003. Found my first Benchmark today too. Not quite as exciting, but I think it's gonna be more challenging. I love taking my wife and my 5 yr. old son with me too. Wife isn't as crazy about as me, but she likes it ok.
  15. A GPS unit is a electronic device that can determine your approximate location (within around 6-20 feet) on the planet. Coordinates are normally given in Longitude and Latitude. You can use the unit to navigate from your current location to another location. Some units have their own maps, built-in electronic compasses, voice navigation, depending on the complexity of the device. You don't need to know all the technical mumbo jumbo about GPS units to play Geocaching. All you need to do is be able to enter what is called a "waypoint" where the geocache is hidden. We're working on a section to help you set up your own GPS unit to play. In the meantime, feel free to ask questions in our online forums.
  16. To quote Chevy Chase from the 1981 movie "Modern Problems" I LIKE IT!!! It has changed me a little too. I now take more time with my family that I wouldn't have normally otherwise.
  17. The two front running stories are both good, but I leaned toward the geocaching story It's still close 213-207
  18. Have to define 'all things equal' for me. Geography is the deciding factor for me. If I want to tour a downtown area or historical site I would prefer virtuals. Give me a good size park, Natioanl Forest etc. I'd much rather have a big beefy ammo can traditional. Ditto.
  19. This is a little off topic, but that reminds me of when I was around three years old and I would be playing outside and my mom, (God, rest her soul), would step out the door, and call me. I would close my eyes and think if I couldn't see her, she couldn't see me.
  20. Try posting your detector here......Lucky Dan's Metal Detecting Forum Are you sure it is a Lone Star and not a Land Star?
  21. I thought I was the only one that felt like a weirdo
  22. We did some micro hunting a few weeks back in a city park and while trying to find our first micro, I was getting a little paranoid about being seen. So, for a few minutes, I put my GPSr up to my ear as if I were on a cell phone I was just curious if anyone else has any funny stories about caching in populated areas James The King Kachers
  23. I'm an electrician for Warren County Schools Wife is a secretary for her dad's hardware store and my 5 yr. old......well he's just a 5 yr. old We three make up the King Kachers
  24. I'm a lurker, therefore I lurk. Just recently started reading in the forums, have learned alot and laughed alot. Some very witty people on here. Don't care too much for the ugliness though, especially the posts about virtuals but it's like that in most other forums. Just started caching in September this year with my wife of 23 yrs. and my 5 yr. old son. Found out about geocaching from a link a poster made on a metal detecting forum. Haven't been metal detecting since James The King Kachers Just for the record....I like virtuals
