    Where am I?

Ja, now that you mention it, now I recognize it... Only difference is my photos has a few baboons watching us from far off, but otherwise the same...
  2. This might be my last post on The Fynbos Finders.. The Stormers fans might just stick me in a cache and hide me under a rock somewhere on Swartberg... But anyway... I'll shout it out loud... My Bloed is Blou... Well done Bulls... The Stormers blew into Fort Orlando, but the Bull stood firm... Beating this Bulls team is not easy at all... But full credit to the Stormers team... They played like champions the whole season, and deserved their place in the Final... With these two teams we can throw a Springbok team together that can scare the living daylights out of any Rugby playing Nation on this Planet... Can't wait.
  3. Under the silver cannon that is on the listing, was a hidden away box... It contained some puzzle pieces... Build the puzzle on site, and you would find the cache very easily nearby... I pasted the pic onto cardboard, laminated the whole lot, and then attacked it with a stanley knife... Before that pic became a puzzle it looked like this...

    Where am I?

Klaasvoogdrivier station it is indeed... This little gem of a station is tucked away between Robertson and Ashton... Spotted it on the way to "Wine on the River"-cache... Well Done Hesamati... Where will you take us to next?

    Where am I?

Nope... Move some more towards Cape Town, but not quite all the way...
  6. I archived my Noon Gun Puzzle today... I wanted to fix the cache with a new final hide, but time is not on my side at the moment. Anyway, the spot is open, and waiting for a new cache. Maybe one of you guys had an idea for a sneaky cache placement, and you needed a GZ... With the Soccer WC coming up soon, this area should attract lots of visitors... Any takers?

    Where am I?

One has to drive past this spot to get to a nearby cache... It should actually have a cache of it's own... Didn't have a ready made cache box with me that day... Oops... It is somewhere between 2 plattelandse dorpies...
  8. I wrote a cache listing where I tried to create a scene that played out just over 200 years ago... The idea is that cachers should imagine what it looked like when the actual historical moment happened... Sort of transport them back in time... (Treaty Tree) And along comes Trevorh7000 with a great log like this.... I just loved how he lived himself into the scene... Those Brits made me laugh before but today I felt nothing but sick. Its 16:12 on 10 January 1806 and I have just witnessed the sickening horror of the Cape being signed over to those bloody Rednecks. This at the old Slave Tree nogal. I see a different kind of slavery now. We'll all be slaves to Colonial Britain I tell you. They used to have hangings here, I can just imagine those two pompous British offices swaying in the gentle breeze, eyes bulging - strange fruit they would make indeed. But then my mind jumped out the state of dreaming as the reality of the situation dawned fully within my consciousness. I must leave now, I have had quite enough of the smugness of those Brits - all pomp and ceremony, their waxed mustaches and not a hair out place. Their faces red and puffy though, I suspect from the plentiful victory gin and tonics. I must leave before I am discovered, but not before bearing witness to the tree and the treaty. I dutifully make my mark like the three others who bore witness before me, and then slip away. Thanks for a super log Trev...

  11. The way things are going in Dubai these days I would guess UAE must be holding that distinction these days...
  12. Do HOME-work... Read Logs and check photos.... A lot of cachers give subtle hints or clues hidden in their logs... Try and read between the lines... It gets easier the more you do it... Make notes... It helps... Photos can be a dead give away... Look at the background, the trees, the rocks or anything that will help you recognize something when you get to GZ... Lots of times you'll see the cache container in the photo, which will help you in figuring out where something of that shape and size could be hidden...

Heita.... Tomtwogates is on 700.... Great going Tom...
  14. Great idea Doc... I've read logs before of newbies that couldn't find the easiest of caches, simply because they just did not know what to look for... More often than not, they give geocaching up after 2 or 3 DNFs... The only way to learn geocaching is to DO geocaching, it can't be learned from a magazine article... So this practical-guideline-multi makes a lot of sense... Count me in with this one... As the thread goes on we will obviously get an idea of how it will shape up, but I'm right behind you...
  15. Great stories... Loved reading them all... My list has been submitted...

Veels Geluk Pa en Ma... Trots op julle...
  17. Another way of rating a cache is through Bookmarks... Once again, not too many cachers uses this option, but it will also tell you something, over and above the logs... Take for example... The Davinci Code (GCXBZQ)... There is 5 bookmarks attached to this cache, and if you read through those, you will see that it is a highly rated cache... Looking at cacher profiles, you can also see how they rated caches through their bookmark lists, and which ones stood out for them...
  18. Firefox has an add-on called GCVote, that runs through Greasemonkey... I'm not sure how it gets done on IE or GoogleChrome though... I use the GCVote application, and it works great for me... Yes there is not many who does rate caches this way in South Africa, but over time one there will be an average rating coming out... We all cache differently, and we all experience caches in our own way... What is great for me, might be a bore for someone else... But if enough people rates a cache, one will get a "feel" for the quality of that cache... Once again, the rating is totally subjective, as MM said.... It also helps if you're caching out of Town, and have limited time... Just ignore the 1 and 2 stars... And focus on the 3,4 and 5 star caches... As a cache owner.... Great logs are always welcome, and less enthusiastic logs tend to irk one a bit, but realistically one has to learn from those logs on how to improve your hides... The same applies to the GCVote add-on... I can see how others experience my cache in a different format, apart from the logs... And if there is room for improvement it will show from the ratings it gets... Hope this helps... GCVote
  19. Thanks for the pointers Colin... Definitely something to keep in mind... Thinking more rationally this morning, maybe I was a bit harsh with my previous post... Guess there is a lesson to be learned there... Maybe that was not the best spot for a cache... What got to me the most was the lost Travelbugs... But it is just a game in the end, and sending travelers out into the big wide world does have some risk to it... The best one could hope for is that they could have a good run before they eventually go missing...
  20. Muggles with long fingers annoys me... You do all the effort to put a cache out... Nice HTML listing, carefully planned waypoints, cool spot for the cache. Spend the dough on the container and camouflage. Stock it with some decent swag... The whole nine yards... All goes well for a while... You even go back and improve the cache container... And then some IDIOT who cares absolutely nothing about anything stumbles onto it... I bet he even reads the logs and the cool laminated read-me... And what does he do... Steal all the swag, to do what with I don't know. If you are lucky he will throw your container down just there at GZ on his way to where ever he will go and brag with his STUPID act of pillage... And the most annoying of all... He gets to hang 3 travelbugs on the back of his kitchen door... Real nice... I've got only one question to you mr Muggle.... "Are you a professional Idiot, or just a gifted amateur?" O.K. Now that I vented I feel better... Tomorrow I'll start thinking about getting the cache up and running again...
  21. Great Pic Esitoli... The kids must have known that this pic was a winner 'cause they threw their arms up even back then...
  22. Maybe Pooks could do us the honour of choosing a winner for last month, as this threat was his idea... Then we could all go check our pics again and get the ball rolling for April...
  23. The Power station just off the N2 in Cape Town... It has two ugly towers which is currently crumbling... There is demolition plans on the table at the moment... The de-commissioning was because of something as trivial as soot on the washing lines of the Pinelands neigbourhood...
  24. Not often I know the answer to a question, and then when I do, Pooks stick his hand up faster than me...
