  1. I got a letter, I got a letter. Hey everyone, do you remember Halftrack Guy? We all had a big bash to send him off properly to be an Army Ranger. Halftrack guy event cache Well seems as though if you write to him, he writes back (well...he wrote back to me). A real deal, hand written on paper, letter, sent via the USPS (United States Postal Service for you acronynm challenged types). Anyhow, seems as though John (halftrack guy) hasn't had much mail. So....if any of you took the postcard from the event and haven't sent it to him yet, well, it is time to send it to him. If you didn't get one of the post cards from the event, how about sending him a note anyways? I know the San Diego caching community has a huge heart, how about we each spare 10 minutes and 41 cents and let John know we are thinking of him. The link above has the address in which you may write to him. John reports that he still has about a month to go and he misses us San Diego folks. He also says he is practicing his night time nano finding skills by searching for spent shell casings in tall grass at O'dark 30. Them Rangers know how to have fun!
  2. I've been having fun hiking and cycling around Big Bear Lake this week. Came across this sign near a cache in Fawnskin today. Just a heads up for you folks heading here tomorrow for the events.
  3. Done! Flagman has found his 5000th cache. Congrats!!!!
  4. Looks like dhsundance has decided to log his 3000th find too! Congrats! Them school teachers got all summer long to cache! Lucky them.
  5. Thunder-4 and me are on our way, just cleared Dana Point. Will be spending tonight in Calaveras State park along Route 4. The 4 part of Thunder-4. We will look for you all on Saturday.
  6. Time to party! Somwhere in Tecolote Canyon the 5th and last golden ticket to Mr Wanka's Chocolate Factory was located. Oooops, wrong story. Congrats to Tom for being FTF on Tecolote "Puzzle" Canyon #20 - Finale!
  7. Congrats to Thunder-4 for finding #3000 on the Laser Cache tonight. There were a bunch of people in attendance to witness this milestone.
  8. I remember that a geocacher got fined almost 200 bucks for getting caught off trail in MTRP a couple of years ago. A little constructive advice shouldn't have caused that kind of reaction. Funny..we were talking about just that today in MTRP with Greasepot from Colorado..couldn't remember who paid the fine though. We saw lots of people off trail today...Rangers could have made a killing. MTRP was hopping....so many people and kids and dogs. The trailhead parking lot was overflowing. Sure is a popular place and with the rains all the little waterfalls are beautiful. It was the guy that wrote posts like a pirate (I can't remember his name) but I haven't seen him post here for a long time.... Barbados Sam???? He also had the Belly Timber and Belly Trimmer series. Great stories, fun themes, lots of humour in some of his hides.
  9. May I suggest that hints be given out publicly and only on puzzles not solved yet? This would seem more fair to the puzzling public.
  10. For any of you folks still wanting to go to the desert and try something a little different. You may want to check out this Orienteering event..
  11. Ok Everyone, time for some holiday cheer. Time to get creative. This is a bit off topic but knowing how much fun we all have with images I thought I would start the elfing wars. Lets see what all of our different San Diego County geocaching teams look like. Cache_kid and devhead as elves Happy Holidays from Devhead and Cache_kid
  12. Came across this guy yesterday while on the way to this cache in Mount Laguna. Any chance of someone identifying this snake? It was about 3-4 feet long and let us/me get pretty close to him.
  13. Not sure how many of you have been following Radical Geezer's walk across America but there is an article in today's paper indicating that he completed his journey on Saturday. UT Article Walk To End The War web site.
  14. 1800 and then 1900 four days later, now that's called addiction. Way to go The altitude ... it had t' be the altitude. Yep we agree, must have been the altitude! Congrats devhead! This was all made possible by Thunder-4 who did over a 1000 miles of driving during our week of fun. He too blew past 1800!
  15. Here are only a few from the top with 2 short movies. Both Don and Patrick took a bunch, we'll have to wait for them to post. Devhead's Mt Whitney Photo Album
  16. http://jeep.geocaching.com/ There is also this (not RJTB related as far as I can tell...) but might be just the thing if you are stuck at home and jonesing... (Too bad they didn't release this last winter...it might have kept RocketMan from getting cabin fever... ) http://www.jeep.com/games/geocaching.html You can request to have one mailed to you so that you can place it in your cache of choice. Here is the sign up link.
  17. Congrats to Thunder4, finding number 1400 today at this CACHE
  18. The Dillon Gang found #25 today, I don't even think he realized it at the time.
  19. Congrats to The Polar Bear for finding number 1200. He hasn't quite been caching a year yet! This is an average of 3.39 caches per day! How do you find .39 of a cache?
  20. Congrats to The Dillon Gang on finding number 2400 today.
  21. Nice picture. It looks like Devils Sink on Soldier Pass Trail. Dave, you are correct. The cache is called Keys To The Kitchen. This sink hole is pretty amazing, it is hard to see the bottom unless you get up to the edge. I heard a guide say that some chunks had broken off in the last 10 years, I guess that makes it relatively active? Overall, Sedona has been wonderful this last week. We have been hiking all over the place and absolutely enjoying the warm to cool weather. I definitely recommend this area.
  22. Happy Thanksgiving from Sedona AZ. No, cache isn't up there, it was behind me.
