My boyfriend heard about it from the Travel Channel. They did something about the top 10 best treasure hunting activities. He asked me to look up the web site and the rest is history.

I just had another idea about the calendar. If the calendar is more of a scenery type calendar, then what the pictures can consist of is one giant shot of the general location of where the cache is and then around the perimiter of the picture put the letters and numbers like they do on a map and then the back of the calendar can say this cache is located at like "G 12", then if you want to,go to that picture and try to look for the general area the cache is in.

I think that there should be a National and/or International Geocaching organization that should be created to sponsor community service type events around the country/world. Like a state geocaching event could sponsor a geocaching day for special olympics or some other special needs group and use the money collected from the calenders to provide food, prizes, etc for the event. The money could also be used to provide food for events like the CITO Days, geocaching holiday events, etc. So instead of giving the money to other organizations, we could have our own organization and use the money from the calendars and anything else someone might want to create to collect money for strictly geocaching related activities. Just a thought

Just out of couriosity I went to Barnes and Noble today and asked if there were any books on geocaching. It turns out that there is a new book coming out called GeoCaching: Hiding, Hiking, and High-Tech due to come out on Dec. 5, 2003. If you go to Amazon.com you can pre order it at a discount. Barnes and Noble told me the book will be 19.99 if I purchased it there (you can also pre order it there too). It is written by Erik Sherman and is 256 pgs. Just thought I'd pass along the info. Thanks a lot for the info. everyone. It actually sounds like a travel bug is a little more complicated than I had thought. I was considering once I started a cache of my own, placing something like a diary in it and hoping it would just kinda find it's way around the contry on it's own instead of placing a certain destination on it from place to place. I guess I would call it more of a traveling journal or log and hopefully it would find it's way back to me once it was full. I would explain where it started on the front page and ask that once it is full that someone pick it up and bring it back once it made it's full run? I don't know maybe that's just wishful thinking but it might be worth a try? Thanks again for the explanations. Nochipra

I think I have a general concept on how a travel bug moves from place to place but I wanted to be sure. I think the way it works is someone picks up a travel bug out of a cache and then either takes it to another cache either locally or in another state. The main question I have is how do we let the owner of the travel bug know where it is once it's moved. I live in Va and I am planning a vacation taking me through ct and pa and was wondering how this all works if I take a tb with me? Thanks for any info.

Hi, I would be interested in going to a geocaching conference. Things that I would like to see at a conference is workshops for people who are new to caching giving helpful hints and teaching some of the terminology that geocachers use. I would also like to see information tables from each state/country giving information about different clubs, gatherings,etc. in each state. Of course, geocaching contests, drawings, entertainment, vendors (like different companies that make gps system, perhaps they could sponsor the event)? I would suggest having a convention in each region of the country as well because some people will not be able to go cross country for a national convention? These are just some of my suggestion

I WOULD BE INTERESTED TO FIND OUT HOW MANY CACHES THERE ARE THAT ARE CONSIDERED "HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE". I'M NEW TO THIS AND I WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO GO ON MORE CACHE ADVENTURES WITH MY BOYFRIEND. WE DID OUR FIRST TWO CACHES TODAY AND I COULDN'T GO SEARCHING WITH HIM BECAUSE OF THE TERRAIN (I'M A WHEELCHAIR USER). I DROVE HIM TO THE AREAS AND HE VIDEO TAPED HIS SEARCHES AND THEN I GOT TO WATCH THEM AFTER THE FACT BUT I WOULD LIKE TO BE IN ON THE INITIAL FIND

My boyfriend and I are new to this but I think an email group in Hampton Roads is a great idea. I first visited this site yesterday and we went out today and found our first two caches. It was sooo much fun! We may plan to go to the picnic for local cacher's in Williamsburg next month if our schedule permits. I'm really excited about this new hobby
