  2. Many of you may know Keith and Mary Jo of Keith and Company. And some may know, Keith was diagnosed with multiple cancers in March. He has had some good days and some bad days, and yesterday took a bad turn.

I spoke with Carol (Keith's sister-in-law) this morning and it is with heavy heart that I am writing to tell everyone that Keith passed away this morning at 1:10 AM. MJ is doing as well as can be expected in this hard time. Carol has asked for me to be the contact of the Geocaching community. Keith choose to be creamated and so when the family completes the plans for Keith's life celebration they will contact me so I can post on the forums and send another email. Carol said the earliest the celebration could be is Tuesday but more likely Wednesday or Thursday.

I will post updates on OKIC, GCG, GCinOhio, and Geocaching forums along with OKIC and INKY facebook pages.

Thanks for doing this but when you look at the map make sure you do NOT select tent because it will show as reserved.

Loop A 17, 22, 77-79, 85-90, and 92 are the only sites reserved. All are reserved by Geocachers

As I said before "If you plan to be anywhere near the 85-90 compound beware of loud noises late into the night."

You do a great job with this every year.

  4. We will be at the Fall Picnic this year, but we will be staying in cabin 5 this year.

I'll still take care of the camp map for the event and T-Bird, I will make sure to mark your site so everyone know which one to stop by for a cold one! :D

The Generic Beer is iced downright now for the event.

And make sure that the toaster is washed and waxed, so when people come to log it she looks pretty!

I would ask you to help spit-shine the toaster but I'm afraid you would just spit on it. :D:)

  6. Tim Hortons is not public property, it is PRIVATE property for public use just like Walmart, Home Depot, City Parks, County Parks, State Parks, etc...

Actually, I think, it is private property for customer access to do business at that location. That does not make it public use for geocaching.

AR I agree with your statement but dont forget the second part of my statement "It is the responsibility of the land owner / manager to insure their property is safe for public use."

  7. LEOs don't, and won't, and shouldn't, check with Groundspeak.

They do, however. most likely check with the land owner or manager.

Don't want your cache blown up? Make sure it has adequate permission.

    Simple, really.

I agree with you, but, I can think of one instance where permission was obtained and the cache was still blown up and charges filed. A quick search for "bomb" turned up a bagillion matches and I wasn't able to find the thread, but it happened some time this year.

Yes, permission only goes so far! Letting LEOs know about our fun would likely help even if they don't go so far as to map out all the caches in their area (I realize many places couldn't possibly do this due to the MANY caches in the area). Having the LEOs know there's a game out there where we pace and find containers might just make a difference when it comes to the decision whether to call bomb squad or not!

    Well put AR

Everyone Bit**es about needing permits well this is a reason. This is the third bomb scare I remember in the last 2 (or so) years in the southern Ohio area. Tim Hortons is not public property, it is PRIVATE property for public use just like Walmart, Home Depot, City Parks, County Parks, State Parks, etc... It is the responsibility of the land owner / manager to insure their property is safe for public use. The easy thing to do is ask permission so we don't have future situations like this one. If this continues Geocaching.com may have to require written permission before approvers can approve new caches.

Everyone have a Happy New Year!

  9. I have a question to Pinewood and I am not trying to be a Smart A**;

Why would I want to Pre-Register for this event when yesterday (12/08/2008) you archived your GCinOHIO Christmas Gathering (GC1J72Z) due to not enough response?

    Commentary:

If you (this goes for everyone on gc.com) wants to hold an event you do not archive for lack of response, you take the good with the bad. After the event you then decide if you want to hold it again next year. I have seen many events that people do not log the event page that they will attend and these events have been some of the best events and well attended. Events can be a long term commitment, especially group annual events like for your group and this Christmas Gathering.

  10. Does anyone know this guy. I have been trying to get a hold of him since May. He has been on the GC site but will not answer any emails. He picked up a travel bug Hooked On the MWGB (http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=790890) since attending a Georgia Geocachers Association event in March. This TB has about 10 TB Tags on it and we would like the hook to get on the move again.

Thank in advance for your help.
