  1. I work for the United Nations, and travel throughout Africa, Iraq, and Afghanistan. I use a Garmin 60CSX and have never had a problem with it. As far as maps, mine are from various sources including the free online maps that you can get online. I know that the military has maps that they can load into private handhelds as I have a few of those myself. I have never had a problem with my Garmin, and know quite a few of the private contractor use them also. Hope this information is helpful.
  2. ...and that answers my question. Thanks guys. ...ummm...how do you do that?
  3. Using the gmaptool rifty suggested worked and did exactly what I needed to do...Thanks. Now if anyone wants to suggest why the maps crash my mapsource when i load them. I downloaded the maps from www.cloudmade.com I am using the mapsettoolkit and cgpsmapper as I have done with plenty of other .img files to convert them to mapsource without a problem. Thanks for all the responses. I can always count on the fine folks here to provide me with any answers I am looking for. CWGuinther
  4. Sorry I forgot to add the the maps work individually when loaded directly in to my GPS, however when I create a mapset and load them into mapsource, my mapsource crashes. I don't know why, and honestly gave up trying to figure it out. I do know how to to add multiple maps using mapsource, so believe me, that was my first solution.
  5. Well having tried to use this file name format on my Garmin 60 csx, it doesn't load the maps, so I assume the firmware doesn't support it. Does anyone know if there is a fix to this problem?
  6. Is there a way to put multiple mapsets onto the same micro SD card. The mapsets must be placed into a folder on the card called Garmin and gives them the name gmapsupp. It will not allow multiple map sets because of being assigned the same name. Anyone have any ideas?
  7. YOu can also get free maps of Europe at http://cloudmade.com/
  8. I have a 60csx that I use all over the world for both geocaching and navigation. I love it. You can find tons of free maps online for it that can be installed into mapsource or directly onto the units memory. I have no experience with the other gps you mentioned, simply because with my 60csx, I have never needed anything else.
  9. I am looking for any GPS maps of Sudan, Africa. With so many aid programs going on in that country, I know there has to be some maps out there somewhere.
  10. How do you get the maps from mapcenter2. to load into your gps/mapsource? I can not find any tutorials. Thanks in advance.
  11. Thank you Motorcycle Mama. That is all I needed to know.
  12. Ok, this might seem like a really stupid question to some, and I am sure if I searched long enough on this site I would be able to answer my own question. Unfortuately I am extremely limited as to internet bandwidth (on a thuraya plugged into my laptop) therefore can not spend the time required to research it. Now for the question. I am planning on traveling to Europe in the next week. If I purchase a copy of city navigator 2008 NT preloaded on the micro SDcard, all i have to do is install the card into my 60csx and I'll have access to all the maps, right? I am not going thru all the trouble of taking a laptop and will not be able to register, unlock or any of the other things I might need to do involving modern technology. Any assistance or advise that can be provided will be greatly appreciated. CWG
