  1. You can go to the magellan site and download a pdf format manual, it will help you learn how to work the sportrak map. Sportrak map support page . Did your friend give you the serial cable and cd-rom that also came with the unit? if you dont have the serial cable the only way you can put waypoints will be by going to the locations and saving them manually. If he did give you the cable, the easygps program can be used to put alot of poi's and waypoints in the unit at one time. It only has 5mb of memory so the size of maps you install can't be any bigger than that. I live in the Chicago area, my sportrak has a map about 80miles wide by 96 miles high. That gives me from just a little south of aroura, Il to just above Milwaukee wi (96miles), and from lake michigan to a little wes of Rockford, Il. Not bad for most purposes, but i still have to remove that map and load smaller and multiple maps sometimes, for the times i go outside the area. That was the main reason i decided to get a new gps (garmin etrex legend cx), so i can fit a much larger area and not have to jockey around with smaller localized maps for trips with the family.

  3. I'm new to this sport/game (only 5 logged so far) I was under the impression that part of the game is to go and enjoy nature, while trying to find a location something is hidden. So far the most enjoyment has been going to places I might not have gone to otherwise. My wife, my dog and I have had the most fun just enjoying the forest preserves and parks. Veterans Park in Crystal Lake, Il for example, we have been past it but never went to it, when you go back into the trail area it's amazing how beautiful the woods and field of wildflowers is. Finding the cache alone was fun, the "trinkets" inside was just amusing to look at, yes we left something and took something, but from reading the logs of many of the caches in my area it seems that it's normal, hence acceptable to leave so called "junk" items. Now after reading this i'm not so sure what the game is all about. Rob
