So there is a guy that sits in the cubical across from me and I am always playing pranks on his office while he is out of town. So yesterday he called in sick, perfect time for a little holiday decorating.
The last "big" prank I did was filling his entire cubical with 374 balloons.

I am thinking about getting a new 4WD for my Geocaching Adventures. What do you think about this guy? I don't think I could ever get stuck.... and if I came to a boulder that was too big to climb, I could just move it.

Hi to all the great cachers in NM. We are flying out from NH on 12-1 to ABQ, and plan a geo tour to Cortez, Four Corners and back to ABQ. We are both golden agers. I need to find some resource for 1 or 2 hiking poles for my wife. Ski poles from goodwill or salvation army would be OK, or somewhere we can purchase wooden sticks. Any help will be appreciated.
Hikers2: If there is a Walmart in ABQ you can get a pair of 2 expandable ones for $15. Worth the $$ especially if you only need them for your vacation. I'm from Vermont...your neighbor kind of. I have seen them in the Walmarts here (San Diego) and in St Louis so I bet they have them in NM. Have a good vacation!
Somewhere I read a warning about not putting your weight on the aluminum sticks from Walmart because of the possibility they will collapse. Anyone have any experience with that issue?
Mine snapped in half..... but of course I did put near 300lbs on the thing.....

Here is a sad story. Read my log for a cache I did this weekend. I think it was a 4.5 terrain cache... Shhhhhhhh don't tell Jodi. I will miss my hiking stick.

jahoadi and john found New Year, 2006 Reno floods again! (Traditional Cache) I wish I could have been here to see Mike of Geo-Jeeper, retiredprof and 2Dee2Dee attempt to get this one!! I didn't find it right away either and came out on top twice while climbing all over the place(watch the loose rocks). I finally spotted this well positioned container. I must have passed it three times..... TNLNSL I had a casualty while doing this cache and will never forgive you Jerry..... My favorite wooden hiking stick got broken when it fell and hit a boulder just right and broke into three pieces.... It was made for Jodi by one of her work mates, but it was too big for her and I adopted it. I really liked that stick and it had many adventures with both Jodi and I and a few San Diego cachers. However, I did enjoy the challange of the cache on a crisp morning!!! Thanks mate.Jahoadi and John

In my heart of hearts I always knew that you would be a wooden hiking stick man. Your loss makes my point exactly with regard to aluminum hiking sticks. Breaking a favored wooden hiking stick is a sad event whereas breaking or bending an aluminum hiking stick is nothing more than another trip to an outlet, not very different from crinkling a soda can for the trash.
Still let it be said that aluminum hiking stick users are good people even though they have foresaken the bountiful and beautiful gifts of Mother Nature. "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." ... no aluminum hiking sticks in that passage I'll wager.
Sorry for your loss John. What do you bet this will stir up the militant aluminum hiking stick people once again?

That was my hiking stick!!!!! John is in BIG trouble. I'm thinking a trip to the Swiss ALPs to pick out one of those fancy handmade sticks is in order. That stick he so carelessly lost even had a little pewter snake nailed on it. I'm just beside myself...See and this is another reason why Aluminum poles are superior to wooded staffs. On my recent journey to the Domelands, I took a spill and my aluminum pole sacrificed its life to save my shins and knees. Would a wooden rod do that? I think not. It would leave your hand covered in splitters and laugh as you rolled down a mountain.

Fisnjack and I made a trip to Rancho Bernardo yesterday to find a couple of "Historic" caches.
I thought that entire area was off limits? I drive by the trail head about twice a week and It has been closed for a while. Back way in? If so, please do tell =)

We're planning an 0730 departure from Lakeside area. No worries if you can't make it that early, we'll cache along the way till we're able to meet up at Mortero Palms parking area at N32 43.200 W116 08.800 , say 0930'ish, and return not too much past nightfall.
Lesson learned from the prior expedition: leave Ginger! at home. How's Piglit by the way? Ginger! sends her best wishes.
Friday?!?! Don't you people have jobs? ThePolarBear and I will be "revisiting" These caches in January, with no dogs =).

Some fleshing out of my planned Friday/Saturday trip to Anza Borrego South:
I'm probably in for the early Saturday morning Trestle Caches hike. Do you have any details yet as to the planned route?
Ms. LLOT and I hiked that route several years ago. You are in for some excellent scenery (especially looking out to the east). I took some great photographs on that trip.
You'll also find that the route is not well marked, the terrain is rugged, there are nasty plants that like to poke at you when you are not looking and you will be scrambling in that section between "Palm Oasis" and "Bear Rt". (We did not see a bear there, by the way
) We found, several times, that we had to back up and try another way when our original guess turned out not to be a great way forward. The terrain becomes very rugged and steep as you descend into Goat Canyon. Jerry Schad says it should take 2.5 hours to get to a point where you can see the trestle (about 2.5 miles from the trailhead) But with all the route finding we had to do, it took us longer (3.5 hours?) The last bit to the trestle (about .6 mi ?) itself will be the longest and slowest due to the steepness of the terrain and you can probably add an hour (one way) to do this bit. There may be times where you find that there does not seem to be a way to get there (drop-offs and such) but be assured that there is a way around every obstacle.
Please post photos and details of your journey when you get back. This is a great hike! Enjoy your trip!
Thanks much for the information! I will be snapping photos along the journey. I am actually more eager to grab the Jacuuma Scramble then the Trestle caches! I guess that's just the climber in me.

---My first thought for something to do is The Domelands out off the S2 in the morning on Friday and then a drive through Canyon Sin Nombre and up to the Mudcaves area to do the DAK Girls "Tomb Raider" puzzle cache. Then I may camp the night out there and do some other caches out and around the S2 or over at the Superstition Mountains, closer to El Centro. {depending on how crowded it is}---
Sounds great! But, I have been wanting to do the Trestle caches for a while. I have already grabbed the mud caves and Tomb Raider, but I noticed that you haven't done Dos Hombres "The worlds longest curved trestle"
So how does it sound going out and doing this cache along with some of the other ones along the way. I was thinking about coming in from the east and grabbing these couple caches along the way.
Hows that sound?

Yes, those were some of the caches I was thinking of doing Saturday morning after camping overnight. To flesh the plan out a little:
Do the Domelands and Tomb Raider as the main areas of interest on Friday, camp in Indian Forks Friday night, get up early on Saturday and do the Trestle cache and others on that side of the S2 that I haven't done. Also I need to go back to the Carrizo Gorge GI cache, I DNF'd that one and want to try again. I would be camping near my cache Indian Forks Terminus Right more than likely. If anyone knows the fees rules for ABSP, is there a fee for camping out there and/or is it even allowed? I will Email them and get up to date info this week.
I do need to be back somewhat early on Saturday to San Diego, as I work that night {say 4 PM'ish}
So, maybe if you are willing to go out on Saturday, instead of Friday for the Trestle Cache? Or if you are in for all of it, that would be great too, I would like to get out to the Trestle Cache also. My plans aren't definite yet, but I will be out there on both of those days doing something.
Right now at a bear minimum I will meet up on Saturday for the Trestle caches. But I may be in for the whole deal as The Tomb Raider was fun and I wouldn't mind tagging along to do it again, hopfully this time I don't fall into the hole nearly killing myself
. I am still trying to push ThePolarBear to come on out as well, but polar bears can be stubborn at times and I am fresh out of dead seals to lure him out. -
