  1. So I'm too lazy to search! Then there may be some noobies like me here who haven't seen the past posts. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  2. I was wondering how much people spend on caching? Sure we all have the basic costs, GPS's, gas, hiking gear, etc. But I'm curious about cache items, items you buy to place in caches or to make new caches. I realize I've spent a pretty good chunk of money on items. I'm placing a new "theme" cache out today and I figured I spent about $35-40. And this is a cache where the contents will be changing periodically. I don't mind at all, I was curious what others think. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  3. Well I was there! That place is SO crowded that unless you set a specific place and time you'd never find anyone. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  4. Point taken! I know my pepper spray is deadly even when not spraying it at anyone with the wind to your back! LOL Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  5. My bad anyways, I meant 1pm. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  6. ok, tomorrow (Sunday) at 1pm at Tom's Farm off of I-15. N33°46.329' W117°29.242' I know I know, short notice, but maybe someone wants to do some caching tomorrow and then meet up? Of course this is after I go Geocaching up in the Lake Elsinore/El Cariso area with the girlfriend and kids! 7. My pepper spray is always within reach. When in doubt, whip it out! Then if I'm in a more seedy area I carry my "Bear Spray", this makes normal pepper spray look like candy, plus it's 9 oz's and it shoots over 15'! You gun carrying guys scare me! Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  8. Well this is kind oif what I was trying for with the BBQ idea for the Riverside area, since that is where I live. It seems we might as well incorporate both threads. I'll post a not over there pointing to here. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"

  10. I was told to take multiple readings over 2 days then average them. My last cache had 10' accuracy and everyone has said they've basically zeroed right on top of it. Just take some more readings and average them. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  11. That was good GeoCan! I went and picked up a bunch of trash at one of my caches today. But driving around my city today, Riverside, I noticed just a lot of trash everywhere. I got tired of it so I emailed the City Manager and Mayor explaining my frustrations over this in the city, hopefully I'll hear back from them. I need help removing a couch and some chairs from a site, volunteers? 12. Cool ideas! I have been thinking of an Easter one with an egg hunt, but haven't come up with a way to have one person find the golden age that is fair! Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  13. I've been observed 2 times in the last week. One watched me for 20 minutes as I paraded around an 100 year old graveyard. He pulled behind me as I left then turned the other way. Today I was struggling finding a cache on a roadway and I knew it was hidden on the guardrail somewhere, but I didn't want to look suspicious. So I have my GPS on the hood of my truck and a stack of cache info sheets and I'm getting ready to decode the hint when a cop pulls up real slow and gives me a look over. I think she saw the papers and GPS and figured I was going to make a phone call. But the thing that I think saved me so far has been my firefighter sticker on my back window, that tends to take the threat down a notch. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  14. Sorry about the triple posting, not sure how that happened! [This message was edited by Firehouse16 & Code3 on September 22, 2003 at 05:48 PM.]

  16. Having about 29 finds under my belt now as much as I hate it I think it's part of the challenge. Myself, I look at the area using quakemap aerial maps, with that I can see trails and or roads and possible accesses. Mapquest does the same thing too. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  17. Thanks, but now can you remove it from your post? Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  18. Thank you, that helped and did it. Now I just need cache approval! Mild to Wild Travel Bug Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids" [This message was edited by Firehouse16 & Code3 on September 21, 2003 at 07:11 PM.]
  19. I bought some TB's and I placed one in a cache today, how do I show it being in the cache? I read the FAQ but I'm still lost. Please help! Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  20. Today I loaded about 40 waypoints for my local area using quakemap and geocaching.com files. I uploaded the waypoint to my Legend. I then for some reason later on downloaded the waypoint from the Legend back to quakemap. The problem I found is that the Legend changed the waypoints name so I couldn't click on a waypoint to access the page on geocaching.com. Is there a way around this, any help, anything? 21. I did about 10 caches before my first one was placed. It was an easy one for me to do and it's a decent one for a while. I have some great areas lined up for a multi-cache I'm working. But my problem right now is finding good urban location to hide caches. I just went driving around and looking at some spots that would be great where there is no other caches around. First stop, there was bums living across the street, so it was out. 2nd stop there was a dead dog in a plastic bad with it's head sticking out and flies swarming, kind of a turn off, plus the bums were still nearby. 3rd stop, cool old bridge. So i climb down the hill and I'm looking at all of the possibilities, looking up the spans wondering how hard I should make it not wanting to kill anyone. Then all of a sudden way up at the top I see a leg dangling, someone was all the way up under the bridge, a 100' off the ground. I left and gave up for the day. Finding cool spots is harder than it seems! I have acquired some great cache supplies today and have been brainstorming some great ways to hide them, trying to be creative as possible. I'm sure I'll do a bunch of easy micro's too though Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  22. To add to this, where does one get the cache stickers at, the one's that dientify your container as a geocache? I see they have small one's at the store at geocaching.com, but I can't find any others in different sizes. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  23. Looking for a local place, if possible to get magnets, flexible magnet sheets, some kind of adhesive to bond to rocks. I've also seen these little neat green cases people call "decon case" but when I went to a military surplus today they had never heard of them. I did pick up some "cool" containers though (hehehehe). Any help? Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  24. I was curious too about this .10 mile rule. Yesterday I was searching for caches to hunt and I found several places where caches are not abiding by the rule, some seem to be within feet of other caches. Thoughts? Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
