  2. Thanks for the help! Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  3. I just got the garmin topo maps and was going to install some, but I got a warning saying all preinstalled garmin maps will be erased permanently. Well that made me hit the brakes real fast. Does it delete all of the maps? I mean it's nice to go anywhere in Calif. and have maps installed. I don't really want just a county or two, I'd have to be loading different maps all the time. Advice, help? Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  4. Are the Inland Empire Cachers hibernating until the heat passes? Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  5. Thanks, I can't figure what I was doing wrong. I beat myself up for a day trying everything I could think of and nothing was working. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  6. I've been doing webpages for years, but for some reason this has me stumped, can someone help me. At the URL below you'll see the scgeocacher.org and geocaching.com logos and links, each in it's own table. For some reason, even using the same html, both table don't match and for the life of me I can't get them side by side as I'd like them to be. Can someone help? I've tried quite a few option but nothing has helped me, must be something simple I'm missing! http://webpages.charter.net/engineco16/index2.html Thanks Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  7. As a firefighter that has pulled many of hikers out of the woods I can say there is some basics you need besides the obvious (companion, cell phone, common sense). Most injuries do not require much if any treatment, IE. scraps, bruises, small cuts. Where you usually get into trouble is your big falls where you'll get broken bones, head injuries or lacerations. So I think to deal with those you need some basics: Kerlix gauze rolls, tape, some 4"x4" gauze pads, ice pack, a few band-aids & an ace bandage. I can treat 90% of injuries with these simple items. Everything there can splint bones along with any sticks you can find. Somethings I carry beyond that though are: Pill bottle with advil, pepcid, tylenol #3, naprosyn and tums. That will deal with most pains and aches! I also carry a scissors or knife, signal mirror, glow/light sticks, string, matches, space blanket, kleenez, kitchen towel, extra socks and a Sawyer snake bite kit. 8. When uploading from either EasyGPS or QuakeMap. I was on a hike the other day and realized that three of my waypoints were missing, luckily I had the info sheet, then I realized because their names all started with the first word, Sycamore, that they overwrote each other. 9. I've noticed a little glitche in d/l wapoint to a GPS today. When uploading a certain area waypoints I noticed if two waypoints have relatively close names that one will overwrite the other. Is there a way around this? Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  10. You guys get the "Geek of the week" award! Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  11. Well because of you guys I made my MOC cache un-MOC'd, can I say that? LOL Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"

    Audit log?

Was wondering why all caches don't have an audit log to them? Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  13. Hmm, I just placed a MOC, but my reasoning was it was something special and I didn't want non-members pludnering it. I would like to see more MOC's. Frankly this is the only MOC I've seen or that I've noticed. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  14. Can I have a long sleeve t-shirt please! preferably white or green. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  15. Wow I stirred quite a can of worms on my railfan forum. But at the same time I'm educating some on the sport since their initial opinions were wrong. Even a fellow geocacher is on the list and posted. Still trying to find the legal answer though. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  16. I'm on a railroad group and I've posted the question about legalities and RR tracks. I should have an answer shortly. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  17. Not senseless at all. When you doing any sport like this you need to use your noodle just a bit. I see no difference in the railroad track issue or a cache being near a road where someone may have to cross it or walk along a guard rail to get a micro. More people are killed by cars than trains. And of all the train accidents I've been on, quite a few, most were suicides. But how in gods name could you walk on a train track and not feel or hear the train coming or realize one could be coming. Every train has a loud air horn it uses when approaching intersections or people too. I'm out weekly on tracks taking train photos and I'm more likely to hear a train coming 200' away than I would be a car coming 200' away. Just my opinion, but then I have common sense. My point though was about the approval process and the lack of consistency of it. Like I said, I've been to plenty of caches right near railroad tracks. I say though if you want to keep the game completely safe issue people bubble suits to wear. Life itself is not safe, that's why I have the job I do! Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  18. Aprrove! That railroad thing is a bunch of crap, I can't tell you how many caches I've been near, gotten or was going too that were within 50' or tracks (lack of consistency). Common sense dictates peoples safety, not god forsaken rules approved or disapproved by someone not familiar with a certain area. Not trying to stir anything, just "the rules' seem to be wishy washy at best at times. I think it should be up to the seeker to decide if a cache is safe enough for them to get, not some blind comittee. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  19. Most "General" areas in any forum let you talk about whatever you want too. Not sure why we can't do it here! Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  20. Professional firefighter in Southern California for 21 years. I work 3 days a week so I have lots of off time to cache. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  21. That's not the point, the point is that I can find a friends profile then check his user stats on geocaching.com. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  22. A directory is pretty standard on every forum I've been on. It's up to the member to decide how much info they list. I mean a forum directory is only going to point to their profile page anyways that's already listed. I just hate having to go to caches to search for a friends profile page. Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  23. Great, something else. Is there a members search engine to find certain memebers? Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
  24. This thread is moved as directed, my bad! A preview button on the Report a new cache page. I think it would be real helpful and probably people like me making errors and having to edit it. Or is it just me that's messed up? Firehouse16 & Code3 "Dave, Teresa & the 2 kids"
