  1. Thanks GC for the app updates and fix!!
  2. Say I go out and hide 10 caches. Is there any way to see them all on a geocaching map before they are published??
  3. If that were my trackable, I would say keep it and don't let the door knob hit you on the butt on the way out the door...
  4. Remember, geocaching is only a game, so no need to get the anxiety level stirred up. If it's your virtual you can archive it, delete logs, etc.....
  5. Bad idea, for all the reasons already stated.
  6. As stated, the new maps are terrible and something needs to be done to fix this. I want google maps back! GC needs to quit all the cutesy stuff and get back to basics. Maps are a necessity. You can't tell me with all the PMs and ad revenues there is no money for the google maps. The GC site has never been this lame.
  7. I recently got an iPhone and downloaded the Geocaching app. It is pretty cool. Using the phone to find the cache is a lot slower than my Garmin gps due to response time, but it will get you to it. The app has been updated to allow you to write a field note to use in logging your cache. What I like is that is will show all the latest caches, so if a new cache appears after you do your pocket query for the GPS and you are on the hunt, the cache will show up on the iPhone. One less cache that you might miss. Eliminates my need for a PDA. Cache pages and maps are always available! Rad
  8. I plan my trips around a route that will take me to the most caches going and coming will little backtracking. I also use mapping software on my GPSr and PDA. Also I usually cache with a friend and we share expenses. A typical caching day would be finding 20 to 40 caches depending on type and difficulty.
  9. Go to the event, meet more cachers, and have a good time!
  10. About the only time I check an entry is if I replace the log with a new one as a result of cache maintenance. When I get home I look at the log entries to see who found the cache. But I don't check each entry, dates, etc. If people are going to be dishonest in faking a find, my deleting their "Found it" will not change their morals.
  11. Some cachers seem to take great offense to the posting new coords. So if I do find a cache that I think is out of the normal range of accuracy I sometimes will make a note in the cache log. I never say "corrected coordinates" This seems to push buttons!! I usually say something like "I found it at N _______ W _______ with my GPSr."
  12. My caching wouldn't change too much with increased gas prices. I usually cache with a friend so that helps us both. My car gets about 35 MPG which also helps. Not to mention I live 2.5 miles from where I work. In warmer weather I ride my bicycle to work. My wife and I used to drive 45 miles each way to work, separately. We moved to save $$$. 2.5 miles vs 45 miles!!! So the dollars I save on the drive to work helps offset some of my geo expenses!! Usually there are sufficient caches in my area to keep me busy, thanks to our local cachers!!
  13. I only own 2 geocoins, a Texas one and one from my home state of South Carolina. I never plan to place either of them in a geocache, but also would not put out a "copy" either. So far I have yet to find a "copy" in a geocache, but if I did I would feel somewhat disappointed. Too bad there are coin and bug thieves out there!!!
  14. I found a cache this summer (after 3 trips to search for it) that was hidden in a water meter box and covered with pine straw. The box is a typical plastic water meter box, in the ground with the opening at ground level. Some cachers complained that it is a buried cache, but the final verdict was that since the cache was placed with the permission of the owner (a hotel) that it was legal since no pointy object was required to find the cache. Is this cache legal or not???? To me it is a buried cache. What say ye?????

    HTML Codes

I've noticed cachers using HTML with their cache log entries to change font size and colors, etc. Which ones will work on GC.com? I have tried a few and some worked and some didn't. Any ideas on this???
  16. I glued my Garmin mount to my dash using a little E-6000 industrial strength craft adhesive. It has held for two years even in the Texas heat.
  17. I like caching with one other person. It's more fun and also safer in my opinion. Caching with a group of 3 to 4 is also fun once in a while, but not all the time.
