  1. Hey, buy a Magellan...........you'll be back with Garmin in a week or two. Nuff said! Yep! I have both!
  2. Old enough to know what I want............... .................and still young enough to go get it!
  3. Yes, but both of my receivers were side by side and the 60cs had a good lock on 35 and the 60csx didn’t. In fact the 60csx was only locking onto 10 or 11 sat's not the full slate of 12 like the 60cs.
  4. My 60cs does pick up 35 with the "D" indicators and seems to work just fine; I noticed tonight the accuracy +- was at 6ft. 60csx every so often would act like it was starting to receive 35 but after a short time it was gone, and never did have the "D" indicators show up!
  5. "They are depicted on the GPS as Satellite IDs 33-51 which is actually a NMEA convention. Each WAAS/EGNOS/MSAS satellite will have its own unique PRN"... The text above is an excerpt from an article I have been reading about WAAS and handheld receivers. ID's 33 through 51 on Garmin units are for WAAS utilization. (The link to the full article is provided below). Like you I am still uncertain if I should be able to receive a WAAS signal at this time with my 60CSx at my geographic location. WAAS and its Relation to Enabled Hand-Held GPS Receivers I did notice tonight after work that my 60cs was picking up 35 and 48, my 60csx neither, and as a mater of fact the 60csx was only picking up 10 sat's not 12 like the 60cs. I powered the 60csx off and on, drove home and it's now starting to pick up 35 but very intermittently. I also noticed that as both units picked up 35 they both dropped 19. I will let it set for some time to see if I am able to get all the data to set in. I do not remember seeing 48 before, but it must be that I was never looking for it either. Thanks for everyone’s help in these threads, I have learned a lot the last couple of days.
  6. I have read most of the posts in this thread and others on the WAAS problems, but I am still confused! I have my 60cs and my 60csx sitting side by side and although the 60csx locks on sat's almost immediately on start up it still doesn’t lock on any WAAS sat's, that I am aware of. What are the WAAS sat's numbers? My 60cs on the other hand locks on 35 with no problem, WAAS is enabled in both units, and I have done a master reset on both units, (at least I think I did) not too sure about that, any information about the hidden Garmin options would be appreciated also. Anyway, just not sure what to think about this situation, I am aware of the 35 move and possible intermittent correction data, but my 60cs is sure locking on to it. I have loaded Garmins latest firmware 2.6 on the 60csx with the same results. Perhaps this is a larger problem that Garmin will have to address!
  7. This is an interesting thread, and I will chime in; 1 Magellan Green 1 Magellan Platinum 1 Garmin Rino 530 1 Garmin GPSmap 60CS 1 Garmin GPSmap 60CSX My only complaint about the Garmin 60CS was the reception issue and the expandable memory, and Garmin took care of that with the 60CSX. All is well now, and I have a couple of Magellan's for sale...............
  8. Here is Garmins response to my email, Thank you for contacting Garmin International, I would be happy to help you with this. That is true. Some of the sounds of the 60cs unit are louder than the 60csx. However, when you are comparing, please make sure to compare exact tone to exact tone as some tones are louder than others. But, there was a hardware change and the volume of the tones on some of the tones show a difference. If you need additional assistance, please call our 800-800-1020 line during our regular business hours of 8:00 to 5:00 Central Time, Monday through Friday. 9. I have V4.0 on my 60cs. I guess I was thinking it might be a firmware issue, which could be easily corrected by a firmware upgrade, but perhaps not since we both have V2.50 on the 60CSX and yours is loud and mine is much quieter that my 60CS. I'll see what Garmin has to say about it, I have an email on the way..................
  10. I think your option is to load another set of maps, which will erase the first set, somewhat smaller than your previous load if possible. I understand that with some of the newer software "City Navigator V7" this might not be possible, due to larger "Garmin" defined selectable map areas.
  11. That’s odd unless you are running a different firmware version, mine is V2.50
  12. Email is on its way................................ Thanks!
  13. I know this has been discussed before, but I looked and could not find the topic it was discussed in. Anyway, I just received my new 60CSX and at start up I noticed the sounds, alarms, buttons, alerts all are very noticeable quieter. I'm guessing about half as loud as my 60cs, it's like the volume was turned down or something. Is there a setting for the volume? If so I cant find it! Help!!
  14. Thanks for your explanation; I guess you learn something new every day! Thanks!
  15. When I talked to the tech I was talking about City Select and that’s what he implied V8 would be, unless he was confused, which is entirely possible. What is the difference in the two programs and has anyone used the National Parks maps?
  16. Whats that about? I don't keep up with all the scoop.
  17. I had to call Garmin support about a minor problem with a battery charger for my new Rino 530, and in the conversation I asked about buying the upgrade for my MapSource North America City Select V6 to V7. He thought it would be wise to wait a little longer as talk around Garmin is that V8 will be coming out spring 06. I think he said the original release date was to be fall of 06, they stepped it up for some reason. Anyway, thought I would pass that along!
  18. Please put me down for 5................
  19. Hey, I think a Kansas GeoCoin is a great idea and I am sure in the Salina area we would snatch up several coins. I like the Dorothy and gang hunting for a Cache, perhaps Mingo (GC30) the oldest active cache, right here in Kansas. I think trackable is the only way to go, you want these out and moving around the country. Perhaps sometime in the future GC.com could post a page that would list GeoCoins actively in caches by State. Something else for Jeremy to do. Thanks for getting this post rolling!
  20. I just received my 60CS a couple of weeks ago and have noticed the same thing. I once was stopped by a sheriff officer who claimed I was going 80 mph , I told him that was impossible and promptly showed him my Magellan Platinum screen that showed my Max speed as 64mph. Although that didn’t help in my situation , can you imagine the look on my face as well as an officer of the law if I showed him my Garmin 60CS max speed.......................say 188mph. I bet they would pay that some attention
  21. Read the second the third FAQs here! Thanks! That really helps!
  22. Received my Garmin 60CS yesterday as promised by Amazon.com, all in all a good experience and a great price too. I do have on question though for all of you Garmin gurus. How do you tell what firmware version is installed? And what firmware upgrade should a new Garmin owner have installed?
