  1. I abandoned my Dell Axim for a MOTO Q on AT&T (Windows Mobile 6). GPXView worked fine on the Axim but when I tried to install on the Q (extracted the CAB file on PC and copied to Q), CAB execution says "not intended for this device. I am looking only for a viewer, not ready to integrate with Q's GPS just yet (I like my Vista).
  2. Garmin eTrex Vista MapSource/MetroGuide USA V5.0 (and gpsbabel to absorb waypoints) was paper, but decided to use my Palm IIIc was using MobiPocket but I hate it (and can't uninstall) Tried GPX Spinner and Plucker this morning. Works much better than MobiPocket. I think we'll keep it.
  3. I decided to go the GPX Spinner/Plucker route so I decided to uninstall my unregistered MobiPocket software. The palm software uninstalled fine but when I select "remove" in add/remove in the control panel, the PC reader software does not uninstall. I get a "module not found" error. MobiPOcket knowledge base was no help. Any ideas?
  4. Thanks for a very informative thread. I get that scaled means don't trust the coordinates, but the NAD83 vs. WGS84 issue was not directly addressed, right? I have only logged 9, but when I looked back at my photos, I see that the coordinates are pretty much spot on (even for one that is scaled). But let's assume that there could be significant differences between NAD83 and WGS84. I have an eTrex set for WGS84 (for GC'ing). If I'm benchmark hunting, I should set for NAD83 to get the best accuracy, at least for those whose coordinates are not scaled. Anything wrong with this approach?
  5. yes, used gps, but ran out of time to probe (have no detector). What site did you use for the aerial? More detailed than I got on MapQuest.. Spot looks right (SW of remnants of gravel road - or is the road an illusion? Too bad you can't see the power pole in this shot. What is date of photo - 2nd house looks like it is under construction? I think houses were built since 1997, but township public works staff were "out of the office"(golf?) this afternoon so I could not ask.
  6. We've logged a few benchmarks and think we've made the following correct assumptions. Can someone confirm? 1) the boxscore distances and azimuths (declination-adjusted) are dead on. 2) the local landmark distances are dead on (although landmark description can be ambiguous i.e two dugouts at a baseball field) 3) local landmark "azimuths" should be taken with a grain of salt. i.e. "NW from the power pole" could be anywhere from WNW to NNW. The particular reason I'm asking is that one set of benchmark/reference marks we're searching (KV5922) contain only two local landmarks: a power pole and a gravel road. The road was obliterated by subdivision construction so all we can do is draw radii from the power pole and poke around. Would be nice to know how reliable the distances quoted from the power pole are (assuming, of coures, it was not moved). Also looks like we'll need to ask a homeowner if we can search in his yard!
  7. Ouch, my brain hurts! I have an eTrex Vista loaded w/metroguide 5.0. GPS is set to WGS84. If I reset the GPS to NAD83 and hunt a benchmark, the map may be "off" , but my position on the GPS relative to the benchmark coords will be accurate, right? Does it matter if I enter the benchmark coords before or after resetting to NAD83?
