  1. Q2 - spring peepers - they never shut up at night! Q4 - we have these near our cottage, and unless a car gets them I'd swear they never pass away!
  2. For future reference, our postal codes alternate letters and numbers so your "NoM 1TO" has two o's where numbers should be. The two o's should both be zeros for the search.
  3. We set up an event last year with a road rally multi-cache. The morning of the event, we ran through the multi one last time to double check it, and found that the local tea room had changed the menu on their outdoor display (wires crossed - the manager had promised it wouldn't change until after the event, but the weekend manager saw differently)! They refused to allow us to have a copy of the menu so we could still use the clue somehow, and they wouldn't let us put a small sign in the display that read GEOCACHERS: and the clue. It took us quite some time to figure out a replacement (it was a very odd word we had used in a crossword puzzle) and we weren't thrilled at having to redo the two pages in the multi booklet (50 copies) we had created for the rally, that close to the actual event.
  4. Should post a PDF for the pickled eggs recipe too.....

    Harvestfest

We finally bit the bullet and booked the same venue for Harvestfest this year (they're expanding their outdoor patio - there's LOTS more room). August 26th, so mark your calendars. We're going to simplify things, and hope to get happily overrun again. Keep an eye out - the event page will be up soon!
  6. I like www.3geeks.ca in Bedford NS and www.angiesoutdoor.ca in Barrie ON.
  7. I'm going to check out the ones mentioned and read up on the ones in Central Park. We'll see how many my sisters are willing to tag along with me to find. Thanks for the suggestions.
  8. First to Find isn't important to me either. If a cache pops up in my area, and it happens that I'm not at work and have the time to find it, I'll go. If not, I don't. We've set out caches and then sent other local cachers out blind to test the cache page wording and coordinates (egs are Yggdrasil and Harrington Grist Mill) before formal approval, but they don't log as FTF either since they're operating as our testers and the cache hasn't been made official yet. We look at this as a courtesy service so that the eventual FTFer (and others) don't run into problems with the hunt that we didn't catch during our trial run. They'll sign a random logbook page, then wait to log until after a couple of other cachers have found it. Same as joint ownership of a cache. Hamgran and I co-own caches, and when she creates the page I don't log a FTF on it (actually, we never log a find on these as we treat them the same as if we were the sole owner of the cache), and vice versa. It's always possible that the friend didn't have the coordinates ahead of time. Give them the benefit of the doubt, and relax. Why stress out over something that you have no control over and ultimately doesn't matter?
  9. I'm spending a week in NYC in late May, and staying at the Salisbury Hotel (zip 10019). I've done the PQ for this zip, and would like to know if any of the caches around there would be highlights to search out. Any recommendations you could make? My sisters and I are taking my mom for the NYC trip she's always wanted to take, so will be dragging her (via transit and on foot) to all the touristy sites she's always wanted to see as well, so any recommendations of any must-do caches near these types of places would also be appreciated. My sisters don't cache (and don't understand why I do) but will tag along with me for caches as long as they aren't micros under park benches, which would only reinforce their bewilderment with my hobby. Thanks for any suggestions, either about the caching or about NYC in general (our first time).
  10. I haven't been able to access that site in over a week. I have a geocoin that needs to be logged, sitting here waiting.
  11. That's done it! I knew it had to be something simple that I just couldn't see. I didn't have the "Ex" box and couldn't figure out why. Thanks ever so much. Now to play with these new programs
  12. Would someone please explain how to do this? I've searched the forums, and I still cannot figure out how to transfer the waypoints from Cachemate to the maps on my Ique .

    Harvestfest

Hamgran and I are trying to make the decision whether or not to plan a second Harvestfest event (in Ingersoll ON). We would make some changes, now that we realize we were far too ambitious in planning the first one! So, I guess we're looking for some sort of either encouragement or dissuasion from the masses. Opinions? Anything you thought really sucked? Anything you think we could improve? Anything you thought was great? (Anyone else want to host it instead? )

    Camo Tape

We get ours at Princess Auto - believe it or not!
  15. I'm told you don't technically have to carry your license in the UK, as long as you do have a valid license This isn't true for Ontario. There's a misconception that you have 24 to 48 hours to produce your licence and insurance to the police station. The truth is that it is illegal not to have the originals on your person when driving. The police have the discretion to ticket you on the spot, and at $108 each ticket it's expensive. Ask me how I know.
  16. Remind me NOT to break my foot this year!
  17. Hamgran and PumpkinOneA were first finders on one of the caches this weekend!
  18. I wouldn't agree with saying "definitely". While I was vacationing in Nova Scotia, I had the printout for a cache placed by a geocacher who lives in British Columbia and openly said she'd placed it while on vacation.
  19. I've also done this one. I'd read the ratings, and had a good idea what to expect. The co-ords weren't perfect, but with all the tree cover I didn't expect them to be - however, they weren't out by much for me, maybe 10 metres. I've had much worse. The cache wasn't head high, unless you're basketball player tall - I needed to climb up into the crook of the tree to reach it. Not very far, as my tree climbing days are long over. I didn't find the hike in very hard either, just very wet and very weedy. If all caches were easy, I'd lose interest in this game. Seeing this small conservation area, with the added chance of seeing some deer, was well worth the trip out. I guess I'm defending this cache because I hate to see it archived - it was a nice walk, in a beautiful area, with wildlife, and the cache find as a bonus. What more could I ask for?
  20. DNStephens, hamgran and I are in the planning stages for one on August 27 in the Ingersoll area. Harvestfest is ongoing that weekend, so it seems like a good time to try an event cache.
  21. Three that I would recommend are Old Macdonald (GCJAGV), What Lies Beneath (GCG5FJ) and Time and Tide (GC35B8). Old Macdonald is a spectacular view (although I never did find the cache!). WLB - you have to read the logs to see how great it was, and T&T has seals! You also need a tide table for T&T. I'm flying out to Halifax again at the end of the month and hope to find Old Macdonald.
  22. I was second to find, and now I feel like chopped liver! GeoSteve hasn't found my Harrington Grist Mill either though (speaking of inventive), so I guess I can feel snubbed as well.
  23. I've seen the GPS Navigator program for the Palm Zire 72. Would anyone know if it would also work on the Tungsten E?
  24. Ok, so it looks like I have to admit to him that he's right about his postal code (and it's going to be hard for me to admit that to him! ) I've started with the cache Hard Oiler gave, and am checking nearby caches from there, and will also check out the Maritimes geocaching site. Thanks for the help!
  25. I'm headed out to Nova Scotia to visit family in June, and plan to do some geocaches. I know there are at least 3 Centrevilles in NS. My brother moved last year to the one by Wolfville and Kentville. He claims his postal code is B0P 1J0. When I do a search for caches using this, I get caches from the Centreville near Annapolis Basin, closer to the Digby area. This is the only postal code given for Centreville via Canada Post as well. Is there another postal code for his area? Or is his postal code area really that big? Choosing caches in his area is beginning to look like a time-consuming job, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
