  1. What is the big deal about earth caches? Now, I can possibly see something like the Grand Canyon or Niagra Falls. But lately in these parts we've got a few cachers who are on a rock kick. Yes, large rocks, or better known as glacial erratics. You can't swing a dead cat without practically hitting one. You've seen one rock you've seen them all in my opinion. What really frosts me is that to qualify a find you have to send them a photo of yourself and the rock. I don't have a digital camera at the time, don't really want another one, and it's kind of a pain. I would just ignore them, but I am trying to clean up my unfound list by distance from home and these dang things keep popping up. Is there a way to just ignore these?
  2. Any cache that has not had a find in 1 year should be flagged so a reviewer can check on it. If there are multiple DNF's and the cache owner isn't maintaining it or isn't even actively geocaching anymore, then the reviewer should archive it. If any local cachers don't like this idea, then they should "unofficially" adopt the cache and help maintain it.
  3. hehe, was waiting for that one. Thanks for not disappointing and being a downer in my thread. But unless the raccoons can swim, or the bears are anxious to walk a few hundred miles out of their habitat, I think this one will be fine. Coons are excellent swimmers. Might want to rethink your plan.
  4. As a cache owner, how do I delete a log that was posted by someone? They claim to have found it but didn't sign the log. Opens up a can of worms I know, but I'm not going to let them do stuff like that with my caches.
  5. '99 F-250 super duty crew cab 4X4 with Tritan V-10. Fuel mileage sucks but it will get you and five of your friends places you shouldn't be going to anyway. Plus it's a company truck so I don't buy the fuel.
  6. If someone finds a cache of mine, all I want to know is if it's in good shape or needs some work done to it. I don't care if it was a life altering experience for them or not. This is just something I like to do when I get time, my life doesn't revolve around it. I set up a yahoo mail account that all the geocaching e-mails go to so they don't clog up my regular e-mail. It's supposed to be a game, some people take this stuff way too seriously.
  7. "Quarry guys" have every right to order you off the property immediately. You have no idea of the dangers around a work area like that. Even if the area the cache is placed in is inactive today, that doesn't mean it will be tomorrow or next week or whenever. They could start stripping overburden for a new hole or start piling dirt there from another hole. It would be a shame to have a good cache buried, especially if there are trackables in it. I don't know the particulars of this case, but don't be calling the employees rude. It's their job, and it might very well save somebody's life.
  8. Good gravy, why would anyone put a cache anywhere near an active rock quarry? No one except authorized employees should be on the property. Too much heavy equipment running around and the occasional blasting should keep anyone with a lick of common sense away.
  9. I figured it out. I'll just setup a bogus e-mail account like yahoo or hotmail. Just have the junk e-mails that I don't want to read go there. I usually check out all the caches within 30 miles of home every few days to see if there are any new ones or good TB's placed. I just read the logs on there. I drive by this cache every day and plan to check on it and anymore I place every few weeks. I don't believe in putting out caches and never going back to check on them. Try to keep them stocked with good stuff and not cheap crap.
  10. I just hid my first geocache. Am I going to be e-mailed every time someone logs a find or writes a message? If so, how do I change it so I don't receive them. I clicked on the option so I don't get the weekly updates. I get too many e-mails now and more just add to the mess.
