  1. We found a great deal on a Garmin Nuvi 205 & like to know how well this could fit in with geocaching?? I saw where you can hook it up to your computer & can hold up to 1000 POI's. Does that mean we could load it from GSAK or something to load caches to it? Can a person put in Coords to it from it's Touch Screen? Any & all info of how it could be used while caching would be great. It is New still in the box, Never used & for what we saw the price on it, We're getting it at half the price
  2. We also have a Garmin 20x (about $80 @ Best Buy) that we hook up to our Laptop while on the road & it's real good at letting you know where you are or street/road coming up ahead of you. You would have to load it to your Police car laptop if you have them?? Hope this helps??
  3. Our Garmin GSMAP 60CSX will show this too. The next street coming up that is. One good thing about it,,lol
  4. Thx's, Yeah, I should, But he & some others was having a multi of event over a weekend near here & I sure was wishing we could have put what happened a few months back behind us & start over. Was about to put in "Will Attend" for them till I saw this. Thx's for letting me kind of vent. Hope to see some of ya on the trails
  5. Sorry, I do that sometimes,,lol My last post you have to read just like you would log's on a cache listing, From bottom to top. I deleted the said cachers name in the post. As I'm not getting this any deeper
  6. You can get 30 Cal. Ammo boxes here in my area for just under $5 & you walk in, Pick out how many you want, Pay for them & walk out. No Shipping or Handleing
  7. OK, Here what was said in the cache listing by the Cacher. I'm taking out the name of the cacher. " August 30 by We stopped by today to check on this cache. It is right where it's always been. The ground cover and tree cover are quite thick right now. As a result, I got a slightly different reading with my Oregon today under heavy tree cover than I had previously when I'd found it in winter with my old 60CSX. I've posted another waypoint with this log, in the hope that others might have an easier time narrowing down the search area. It's not far off the nearby path. I didn't even need to change the log, as it was dry as dust in its plastic baggie. So feel free to ignore the "should be archived" log and please remove the "needs maintenance" attribute as well. The owner, , doesn't seem to be very active in caching right now, so that's why we stopped by to check on it. I doubted that it had been muggled, and I would've hated to see a cache that's well hidden and perfectly fine for searching be archived simply because a busybody WHO HASN'T EVEN EVER SEARCHED FOR THE CACHE felt justified in logging a "should be archived" log despite having no basis for doing so. I hope that you might take the time to contact the cacher who suggested this cache should be archived without actually having searched for it to let him know when it is and is not appropriate to use the "should be archived" log type. He clearly doesn't understand the function of such a log and is causing undue work and confusion by others by his actions. I have personal knowledge of this and one other cache that he's logged "should be archived" logs on recently and in both cases the caches were still there. Other than simply being annoying, it's unfair to cache owners to have such SBA logs treated seriously when the logger hasn't even looked for the caches. Thanks for all your hard work in support of this hobby we love. August 30 by There's a good chance this one is still there. It's just a tough hide. While I know that reviewers have to take SBA logs seriously according to Groundspeak guidelines, it would be nice if you could give a little leeway when the SBA logs are logged by someone who has never even searched for the cache. Per Groundspeak guidelines, SBA logs are to be used sparingly and only by those who know for a fact that there are problems with the cache or the area. I wish there was a way that one could not log an SBA log if one had not previously searched for the cache. That's probably too much to wish for. It's just a shame that there are "rogue cache policemen" out there who abuse the process for no good reason other than that they like to be a busybody. We might be heading through this area in the next few days. If I get a chance, I'll try to stop and verify if the cache is still there." I never called him no name in a open listing on the geocaching site. But he sure did of me. In a around about way.
  8. Our first GPSr handheld is the Garmin eTrex H (still have it) got it for around $100. Used it for over a year & a few months. Got a Deal on a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx. Still trying to get use to using this new one (New to us) We used if heavy the past few weeks on some new caches in our area & it get's us close but not like the eTrex H does. We was hunting this one cache & using the 60 & it was taking us to the other side of the road away from the cache. Hunted for like 20 minutes. Broke out the Old Yeller (The eTrex H) & it put us right on it & has done it many times since. We now load them both from our GASK but use Old Yeller mainly for our hides to hunt for them when they get a few DNF's. Be surprized when you go back to your hides & it's not where you thought it was & use the GPSr & there it is where you put it,,lol I'll put Old Yeller up against any high dollar unit. Sure, It don't have the Maps & stuff like the 60CSx. But it sure will put you on top of the cache no matter with Tree cover, Buffs,,etc,,etc around.
  9. I like to know when a cache listing became a forum?? I have a cache near by & not been found for several months & had gotten a few DNF's & the owner I believe is MIA for awhile?? So I put in a Need's Archived & after the reviewer posted his/hers little start of this. Another cacher (not the Owner) steps in & start putting me down in the open on a Note Log on said cache listing. Now I get a e mail from the reviewer saying "Please stop posting SBA notes to cache pages that you have not searched for. A needs maintenance note should be posted if you, after searching for the cache, feel that it is indeed missing. SBA notes should only be submitted on caches if there have been several DNF's over several months time." I never said I hadn't been there & looked for it before. Many people don't post DNF's on caches. I use to put DNF's on every one we did get a DNF on but kind of stopped doing it. Anyway's, Sure, I might been wrong on doing what I did, But why should this cacher that thinks he's the geocaching king of the world get away with a open forum on a cache listing??? & Why is the reviewer letting that stay posted on the listing?? I believe this is wrong. & this all started a few month's ago from me stating something (in a Private geocache group) & This had nothing to do with this cacher I talk about above & he took it appond his self to step in & tell me a few words & acted so much like a child he removed me from his friends list & Facebook,,etc,,etc (Like I really cared,,lol) I took this guy as a good friend too & now he doing is being a big baby. But I guess it goes with being borned with a silver spoon in the mouth,,,lol (Sorry, Lil' ticked about this) It's bad when you live in a area & can't get along with each other. Like I said, I might have over stepped, But this could have been handled behind close doors kind of speak??? If you feel like I might be right. Who do I need to address this matter to?? On the Cacher & reviewer??
  10. I'm with andynshe on this too. If you can't go local & find the needs for these kids then why come & ask good folks from around the world??? Plus, You have a profile that is New & with no finds or hides under your belt. Hard to believe this post to be nothing but a scam or spam. But you should go local with it for the help & not here. Just the way I feel, Sorry. Hope you find the help.
  11. Here you can walk in GanderMountain or the likes Store & buy off the shelf for $269.99 plus Tax. $250 is a good deal if it is New & Unused & someone local to them buy's it. If they was close to us I would be interested in it for sure. Like to have a 2nd unit
  12. http://www.itsnotaboutthenumbers.com/ Is one place to check out. We don't have this fancy stuff either so I'm looking into it too. Most of the fancy stuff on someones profile will show a clickable link or the www.whatever so you can copy & paste & check it out. Hope this helps out?
  13. I think you need to be careful with that practice. Did you check the other listing sites and make sure they just didn't list it on another site besides this one? Maybe it's now a letterbox, where there are several listing sites. It's no letter box or nothing else but a cache listed on the geocaching site that was just left there to rot in my words. The log book had been signed by past cashers on it's now archived listing/s I know all about the letter box stuff & all & wouldn't pull it if I know it's still being hunted. Time to draw a line to get this litter out of there so others may hide a cache there that might keep up with it better to keep this game alive.
  14. yeah, Like some of them saying here & If you hear nothing back & you find out from last finder that it's there or get a hint from last finder & you go find it. Sign the log & Pull the cache. I think it's called littering if a owner not going to keep up his or her caches. If someone get's in the game & then loses the interest, Then they themselfs need to pull the caches or sign them over to someone else. We have hunted in places where there was a cache that was archived for sometime & we came up on the cache container. I log the find, but I pull the container out. CITO is what it's all about & with it archived anyway's that makes it trash & you need to pick it what & do with it what you want. If some didn't do this then this great place we call Earth would be littered with Containers all over it.
  15. Yes, We log all our DNF's. I don't see how some people can forget them & remember the finds?? You remember the cache no matter if you found it or not. If when we get home & I start logging our finds & DNF's & I see like 2 or 3 DNF's before me & I will add a Maintenance Log after our DNF Log. Got some nasty looking Log's from the owner of one not long ago cause they lived about 4 hours from a cache near us & said they wasn't going to run down here to check on it cause of a few DNF's. (4 DNF's in 4 months & That not counting maybe the people to chicken to say they couldn't find it,,lol) then they come check on it & Archived it cause they couldn't find it,,,lmao But Yes, We Log each & Every DNF's if we get out the van or car & look, even if for a second. If we don't get out the van or car because of Muggles or don't like the looks of things, etc, etc We then log a note why we didn't even start looking. Being owners of 52 caches we love to see finds,DNF's notes about our caches. We got them in 3 States here & If I see just a 1 DNF or a note because of something in the area changed we go check on it the next day or within a weeks time.
  16. Thx's for everyone that has added they're input so far. I myself would see it more fitting that the Person B or the Owner would add where Person B fitted in on this Cache (Like made the Container, Was the person who did the Beta Test for it,,etc,,etc) Not just log a smiley saying "Logging as co-hider..." I know I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I just wanted some input on it. Cause one thing for sure even if I helped a friend out with his cache even as the Beta Tester where I didn't know where it was & I was kind of the Lab rat here,,lol I wouldn't log it at all but would like my geo nickname in the description someplace on the listing as the Beta/Lab Rat Tester. lol
  17. Let's say, You open a Cache Listing up & You see "A cache by Person A ,/and Person B Now we know that Person A is the real owner of the cache & get's the e mails for it (Thats the way I'm told how it works?) Anyway's, They both hide the cache & Person B being the helper. How you all feel about Person B logging a smiley on it cause they was a (So said) "Co-Helper" on the cache?? Just like to hear from others on this subject?? Thx's in Advance
  18. I'm in a local forum that one of the members had for sale some of them big one like in the picture here people posted. I wanted a few of them but being out of a job & miles between us I didn't get my hands on none. I was going to fill it about 3/4 full of concrete & let it dry, Throw in some swag & log book & Dollie it out in the middle of some woods & Name it, "Please! Don't steal this Cache" lol
  19. We use a small Hemostats. They are used in the Medical Field as a Clamping devise. You can get these at about any place that sells Medical supplies & even some sporting good store & I'm sure there a few other places too. After you sign the log you can clamp it to the end of the little log sheet & using finger & thumb you can roll what the log in no time. Works great for us. Behind we added them to our geo tool bag we sure cussed a few nanos too,,lol Hope this helps.
  20. But I wonder if you WILL have to change your password every time you want to log into the OTHER account in the forums, and again to get back to this one... What was the root cause of the problem? There HAS to be other, less intrusive, methods to correct the problem. Lets do a test then. Test Test as ReedKyCacheFinders Test Test as wildmaninreed & Final Test Test as ReedKyCacheFinders Well, I'm happy with the Tests.
