  1. There are a LOT of quality cache placers in the North Texas area so it's a real challenge to to narrow it down to a few, but after looking back at my finds, I remember that I had the most fun experiences with a story to tell afterwards while doing Hedge Hopper's or Cammie455's caches. Of course many of theirs are longer more challenging hikes, and many times more rural than most, so they lend themselves to a good experience with a story to tell.
  2. Try going to the setup screen, then the initialize screen and select the correct state. That's always worked on mine when it lost it's mind.
  3. When an approvers reputation spills over into an area that he doesn't ever cover (that I know of) and people think he's a stand up guy there must be something to it. That doesn't happen every day. 9Key has reviewed/approved a number of my submissions. His questions have always been fair and reasonable, and his communications have all been businesslike. He is a 1'st rate approver!
  4. I log my finds on my personal account, but have a number of hides under a team account. I also do not log Virtuals. I realize that I could get around it with Pocket Queries since both accounts are Premium accounts, but it sure would be nice to be able to do a quick look up before heading out, without having to page down 2-3 pages before I see the first non team hidden, virtual, or archived cache.
  5. I don't normally have input to these topics that hadn't already been covered extensively, but in this case I would like to share a recent experience. Several weeks ago I visited a site that I thought would make a fantastic virtual. I reviewed the guidelines and made the determination that my virtual would have a “WOW” factor, but I needed to do more research before writing it up. My wife and I were going somewhere later that took us within 15 miles of the site, and I intended to take her there and share it. The closer that I got to the exit, the less willing I was to spend the 30 mile round trip for something that I was not sure that she would be wowed by, so I guess it didn’t have as much WOW factor as I originally thought. I now use this as my personal guideline for a worthy virtual. Would I go out of my way to bring someone back there to share the site?
  6. One local hider has hidden over 30 caches that I have hunted. He uses a Garmin V to hide, and I use a Sport Trak Pro to hunt. On 95% of his caches that I have hunted, I have been within an arms reach of the cache when I followed the GPSr to zero. I also re-check the cords on my hides when I run maintenance, and I am consistently under 10 ft.
  7. Well if that's ridiculous, then I am totally embarrassed to admit that I met a cacher at one of my caches that he had posted several DNFs on. I looked for about 15 minutes and finally described the camo, and hiding location in great detail. He then located it within 25 feet of where we were standing. He has not let me live down that I could not find my own cache.
  8. Sportrack Pro and a Meridian Gold. The Meridian stays mostly mounted in the car for the mapping ability, and the ST Pro goes to the woods.
  9. I bought one of the refurbed Meridians. I've only had it a week, but I am satisfied, and it has a 1 year warranty with Thales/Magellan.
  10. We had a Russian foreign exchange student that returned to Russia last year who was majoring in geography. I wanted to send her a GPS for Christmas, so I checked with the Russian consulate, and was told it would be fine. I sent it VERY early because of previous experience with Russian mal service. It went through customs without a hitch. In fact I often get an email that says something like....Hi I am at Longitude X and Lattitude Y, look on the internet and see if you can find the tourist site that I visited today. When we go visit her next year, I plan on taking a GPS and finding a cache.
  11. Posted mine yesterday. Doesn't seem to be a dynamic update, as it has not shown up.
  12. It would be a shame for me to get a Warn %, considering my relative few post, but here is what I would try, if I were bothered by FTF hogs. A 2 stage Multi with the 1'st stage being a very small micro, very well hidden. If I am not mistaken a cahce owner can alter the original waypoint by a limited distance to recover from errors when placing a cache. I would have my coords purposefully off by the maximum allowable distance, AND I WOULD WARN OF THIS IN THE CACHE LISTING. I would state thate at time=X, and Day=X, I would correct the 1'st waypoint online. This would at least give more time for people to become aware of a new cache, and fix the starting time for anyone interested enough to check back. Of course I suspect such a cache might get caught up in the approval process.
  13. I qualify for lurker status on this board, and several others that I frequent on a daily basis. I apply one simple rule to my participation. It is the same one that I use for my work. What quality do I have to add to the proecess. I read the original post and as many of the responses as time will allow. I only post when I have a perspective that has not already been covered. I guess it's one of the disadvantages of participating in a group with so many talented contributors. There is usually very little that I can add quality to. So by nature, I lurk.
  14. Also, No offense intended, but, what Bons said!!!! I think his intent was not to have you repeat his mistake.
