  1. I'm starting to feel like an idiot with my new Palm TX and GPSlim 236 and was wondering if any of you could help me out. My Palm recognizes the 236 in the bluetooth device area. However, I can't seem to get any satelites with the 236. I'm trying to use Cetus GPS or GeoNiche on the Palm. On the 236 I get an orange blinky light on the left, a blue blinky light in the middle, and no light on the right. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I would be very appreciative.
  2. I think this is a touchy subject... Many people use Paypal now and use Paypal's "protection". We offer insurance on our items that we sell and mail with delivery confirmation now. If the buyer declines the insurance and we have a receipt showing we mailed the item/delivery confirmation confirms it was delivered, I do believe it is tough luck for the buyer. We give them a chance to protect it as once we place it in the shippers hands we have no control over what happens to it.
  3. And you know 360, I have actually thought of starting to do that after seeing you and Dave do that. I mean, that would also help cut-down on all of GC.coms bandwidth and stuff (-; But seriously, I'm heavily considering doing that as it would be something different. Kinda like letterboxing.
  4. So have you bought anything from the site? Why yes, yes I have bought stuff from the site.
  5. I got a bunch of nutty geocoins in the mail today.
  6. First, I would not, in any case, recommend logging a "surrogate find" for another cache such as an archived cache. Next, we own a great many Premium Member Only caches, aka PMOCs. If you are not a premium member, but you find one of our caches, perhaps while accompanying others cachers who are PMs, or via some other means (i.e., found using intuition, a dowsing rod, or acting on guidance received from space aliens, etc.), you are MORE than welcome to log a find on any of our PMOCs. In fact, this has already happened a few times, and most times, the non-PM finder used any of several common (and well-known) workarounds to log their finds on our cache listing pages, but in at least two cases, we have -- upon request -- lifted the PMOC status (in one case for a few hours, in another case for two days) of our PMOCs in order to allow non-PM finders to log their finds. This is simply not a problem for us. We are here to place good caches for the enjoyment of the geo community. While we have very good reasons for making many of them PMOC, we are not here to punish the few non-PM cachers who find our PMOCs, nor to deprive anyone of a valid find log. However, having said that, I must say that if a non-PM cacher continues to find more and more of our PMOCs, I would strongly recommend to them that they become a PM in order to support geocaching.com. If they did not become a PM, but continued to chronically and regularly log our PMOCs, I might consider taking other actions. Oh, and this is a zero-drama issue for me. That was the problem, I didn't know that there was a workaround until just yesterday when someone finally let me in on that little "secret". I transfered all of the surrogate finds that I had placed into the correct caches once I found out how to do it. And it's not like there was a huge amount of member only caches that I had found while out with the groups... There were four, but they were ones that I would like to have logged. Now that they are and I found out how to log them properly, there really isn't much left to discuss on this subject.
  7. Why? Your the reason I think GC should have a different MO cache that is more elite. Sure I like to find all caches, MO or not but it is nice to know when you go to a MO caches you would hopefully get better items. I put a compass and first aid kit and flashlights and stuff you would like to have out on the trail. It's getting old finding a cache that has been littered with happy meal toys and 23 cents someone had in their pocket. I think of it as a treasure hunt, I like the idea of getting cool items when i finally find it. Why should I pay for my membership and just let you log it on mine or some archived cache (which is totally jacked up by the way)? Wait, so just because I'm not a premium member that means I will automatically take the good stuff and leave junk? Just so you know, I do not trade items at caches. I just write my name and move on. You cannot make the generalization that non-premium members take the good stuff and leave junk. I've seen plenty of premium members do just that. Also, the logging of the finds was under one of my brothers archived caches as I cache with him alot. I could easily have logged the cache finds under one of my active caches(as I have no archived caches) and figured it would do better underneath an archived cache as its not visible to anyone searching for active caches. So you want to alter the history of the cache even if someone legitemately finds the cache? Would you go and scratch my name off of the paper logbook also? Maybe from here on out I'll just find caches, not log them, and not give the owners of the cache the privelage of reading of the adventures...
  8. They also get their funding from shirts, travel bugs, geocoin numbers, and everything else in their store. I realize that the cache owner makes the cache a members only cache for their own reasons. However, if I'm out with a group of geocachers and I sign my name in the logbook there's a way to log your find on the cache page. Thankfully I know that now so I won't have to hear others complain.
  9. It's not cheating when my name is in the LOGBOOK. I have found the cache, wrote my name in the cache, just can't log my find online on the cache page(or so I had thought). Apparently I'm not out of luck as GC.com left a backdoor open to log MO caches without being a premium member. Now that I know how to do it, this has been cleared up. As for me not having a premium member account, there's plenty of reasons for that. 1. Not enough member only caches in my area to even bother with it 2. It creates a sense of elitism among geocachers "Oh, I'm a premium member, you're not, oh... Too bad for you" 3. Don't do paper caching 4. Geocaching wasn't created to be commercial in nature and that's what its evolving into.
  10. I figured that, but hey... I wanted opinions. I'll start with my opinion and fasten my seatbelt even tighter. I, personally, think that its ok. I had the co-ordinates in my GPS, found the cache just like the other caches that day, and my name is in the logbook. The only thing I can't do is access the caches description page. It should count as a find according to all the rules then. I would just have to go about getting the co-ords in a different fashion. It also lets me keep a log of those caches so that if they ever become regular caches I can go back and delete the old log and then go log it onto the actual caches page.
  11. Got a question that would seem appropriate to ask here. As I'm not a premium member but often those I cache with are, this is something that I would like to gather opinions on. Say you are not a premium member of GC.com and you're out with a group that has premium members. While out with them, you find a MO cache. Is it ok to log it under a different cache(archived or active and note it as a find for the MO caches that you had found) as you can't log it under the MO cache's page? Please let the discussion begin!
  12. I know its almost two months after this post and I'm slow in making the connection... But the premise of this movie reminds me a little of the Serial Finder stories that are being put out.
  13. Well we were out looking for a cache at an abandoned waste water treatment center when a cop approached us. Thinking the best thing to do would be to not tell the cop what we were doing, we told him "we're getting ready to put some more graphitti onto this here building"... After being put into the squad car, we thought maybe we should've told him the truth.
  14. Actually guys, not everyone on these boards live in a democracy and not everyone lives in America... Not every country is democratic about things and thats ok. So please guys, remember, even though you live in America or where ever, your goverment type does not rule the world.
  15. They paid for the coin by giving/trading the maker of this coin another coin. That sounds like payment to me.
  16. So now, we have the Cachers 4 Christ XXX coins? Hmmm, interesting (-;
  17. The fact of the mater is that the vast majority of coins end up in collections, not being tracked and the buyers have decided that they want the coins sitting on their desk to be caching related. If they're not in the wild, then they need to be cache related, otherwise they would just be another coin/token collection and not related to the hobby. Maybe these more simple designs then will get them out in the wild. People won't be buying them to sit in their collection. Seeing as the original intent of the geocoin was to get out into the wild and travel, it would seem maybe the "non-geoaching" related coins would help them do this.
  18. You can't be serious...But I will bite. The tag is 100% Geocaching related. The toy or item attached is nothing more than a hitchiker which is is nothing more than the 100% geocaching related traveller being personalized. Kind of like when someone has their name engraved onto a coin. I still don't believe that you are serious, but there ya go. Any more questions about travelbugs and their relative relationship with Geocaching probably should be asked in that forum though. You will get much better answers there than I can give you in the Geocoin forums, but I hope that helped you. But see, according to that logic then, any coin with geocaching tracking is just a hitchhiker because the tracking number is 100% geocaching related. Its just a more compact, customized travel bug that people have started to sell.
  19. Because this is Geocaching! The purpose of the Geocoin Discussions in the Geocaching Hitchhikers subcategory in the Groundspeak Forums is to talk, trade, and sell Geocoins. If it's not Geocaching related then it should be somewhere else since Geocaching is the common bond for everyone here. In fact if it's not Geocaching related then this coin is nothing more than a coin being sold to support a group or charity cause, which is no different than selling one to support the Red Cross or something else. There is a common theme in this post about geocoins that maybe the people who don't think the coins need to be geocaching related might pick up on. So what do travel bugs have to do with geocaching? Someone attaches a tag to a toy or some other item that has nothing to do with geocaching. Is it really a geocaching travel bug then?
  20. It's not so much that I think everything should be free on the internet... But I do remember when it was free to list on Ebay. The rates also are kind of crappy for stores, 8% closing value fee for up to $25. As for Paypal(which is also Ebay for all intents and purposes), I also remember when it was free for everyone, even to accept credit cards. Then they started to charge and corner the market in credit card payments online. I don't really have a problem with the fees for accepting credit/debit card payments from them. However, I run into the problem of charging fees for money that is already in the system or comes from a savings/checking account. When money is already in their system, its already had a percentage taken out. Then it runs through the system again and has the same fee taken out once again. This can be repeated many, many times. Man, thats a great system.
  21. Actually, that fee isn't just for credit cards. Once you upgrade from the standard(so that you can accept credit/debit cards) they charge you for any money that you receive, regradless of where that money has come from.
  22. Don't forget they also get you with Paypal fees if you use Paypal. 30 cents plus 3% or so... Even on money thats already in the system.
  23. Well, seeing as how in the past 4 days, all compass rose 06 coins have gone for $25 or more, $35 BIN is not ridiculus.
  24. He paid his listing fee already by listing it... He's not avoiding it there. And if Ebay thought his shipping and handling fees were trying to avoid certain fees they wouldn't list it. I know that they pulled my listing before it was even listed because I mentioned two different paypal accounts. Apparently, Ebay doesn't feel this auction was in violation.
  25. You could report this person to ebay if this listing offends you that much and they (ebay) will pull the listing. Reporting activity like this will force people to be honest. Just a suggestion. -BK But how isn't the seller being honest? He put the amount he charges for his "shipping and handling" in the auction. Not like he's letting people bid on his item and then charging them an outrageous amount.
