  1. my story... Was reading the newspaper one day, saw that some people had hidden some stuff in the woods... knew my brother had a gps but never used it so asked him to borrow it. He did, we got hooked.
  2. Great coin and idea... If we are able to, we might pick a few of these up as it goes towards something rewarding.
  3. Thanks for posting it for me... They reinstated my posting privileges so now I can post again! Anyways, received who to send out coins to, shipped coins out, dc appears to say they arrived. Now just waiting on receiving mine! I'm so excited.
  4. Alrighty then Andy! Thanks for the very quick reply. Hopefully mine should be traveling soon.
  5. Any timeframe on when the icon for the coins will be up and running?
  6. Just saw on another forum that this coin is most likely going into production! Most likely won't be trackable though. This coin is going to fly!
  7. The post office does have a place they send "undeliverables" to to be sold. I'm not sure exactly where its at, but I know it exists.
  8. I'd gladly release some in Michigan if I could get my hands on one or more.
  9. You never know... People can be shocking sometimes and be more willing to help than we give them credit for. I know I'd offer help to someone who was looking for something, regardless of what the item was.
  10. Then watch them offer to help you find the item you lost.
  11. I'm not sure "the craze is over". It may have reached a plateau but from what I can see, there are still many new coins coming out. Although my last edition sold out in under 24 hours, I think the days of 2 day sellouts of new coins are pretty much over (with some exceptions). One thing we're seeing now is collectors becoming a bit more selective in their choices. This pushes even more ebay sales as people selloff the extra coins from their run as well as collectors thinning out their dups to make room for new coins. I think what we'll start seeing is people turning directly to ebay to finance their coin production. Yes, I suppose its not over... But its definately not what it used to be... I probably should have worded it differently, but I do think geocoins have hit a hump and they are slowly evening out rather than the crazy prices of months gone by.
  12. The thing is though, what if they're getting out of Geocoin collecting and liquidating their collection? For awhile, they had added it to their collection, now that the craze is over they're giving it the chance to live on in anothers collection. So atleast its going to another collector? Or who knows, maybe it would even get put into a cache from the buyer.
  13. No, they just call these "custom" but they come as is. In the listing they advertise the fact that you can get custom made stuff on their web site. I'm in the camp that sees no problem with people selling what ever they want for what ever they can get. Either they get a sale, or they don't. No skin off my nose. But oh no! They're trying to take advantage of the wonderful geocaching community. On second thought, I don't care either.
  14. It appears there will be more sold. I contacted the seller and he said once he gets back more will be sold! YAY, I loved the coin but didn't see the listing.
  15. Google's actually started doing their "wallet" deal. It can be seen at checkout.google.com. Hopefully this will overtake Paypal. Fees seem to be lower too!
  16. I don't know about that. My concern is hiding it in such a way that kids retrieving the real thing--baseballs hit out of the park--would not find it. When people look for foul or home run balls, they tend to search like a geocacher. It would be a challenge to hide it in such a way that only geocachers can find it. I am also concerned about, now that I think about it, how the ball cache would last through the elements. I have seen baseballs and softballs that were found the year after, and they "went foul". You'll have to find a way to keep the cache from decomposing--or you could replace the cache every so often. Good luck. Actually, to make it a bit trickier, all he'd have to do is move the cache further back towards some trees so that those who hit a ball out won't look for it there. Make it look as if some kids playing ball dropped the ball further from the field.
  17. I'll pass, not a cool idea... $13 for a set of coins is WAAAAAY too expensive. Not! I really do think I'd be interested in getting a set... I've always wanted to release a coin and this could be my entry into it
  18. Then you'd get people complaining that people really didn't "find" the coin, they just saw them at events. Oh wait, the complaining about that already happens. That's right....the same people who are telling us not to release them (for fear of loss) are the same ones who are complaining about only seeing coins at events!!! Why would anyone release it if it were something new to add to ones personal collection?? I can see personal coins for that reason....when and if I decided to create our own personal coin, then I wouldn't mind releasing them into the wild....that is what they are for. I was hesitant about posting here and now I know why.....whine, whine, whine. Not you SlumberSix, but the people who "absolutely hate" and "are disgusted" with seeing replicas in caches. You know what I say....if you don't like them, leave them be. Don't move them. Hate them all you want, but if you are willing to throw away $10 then I can give you the coordinates to a personal cache that I have created for peope whining about this stuff....Team_DDNight's Wallet Cache!! I cache for the enjoyment and being surprised at what I might find, but I can see others are out here for the "I want to see (steal) a coin!!!" mindset. From my experience at geocaching events, the people are great and I thought the forums on Groundspeak were going to be of the same caliber, but I it's just the same as any other forum on the web....shame! So long and happy caching. You won't be hearing from me again. I'll just stick to the face-to-face meetings at caches here in Hawaii......you won't hear any whining out of them! Haha, yup, that about sums up the spirit of these boards... I'll just say I'm glad to find any kind of trackable. And if the owner of the coin wants to protect his coin by sending out an image of the coin, thats great too. Atleast with the money you put into TBs, you get a duplicate, with a coin you need to shovel out twice as much to get a duplicate and then that just gives someone else another coin to snag from a cache.
  19. Did you bother checking on the cons I did buy? Original Stash? Geo-Achievement? Project APE coin? Planning to buy multiple California coins Commented on a few nice personals lately (like DresselDragons) GEO coin (from Erik K) Nope. I agree this has gone WAY off topic so I'll start a new thread about where we can have a civilized (hopefully) discussion on coins in general. I didn't say it was you saying pass. Remember, the person you said was speculating had said half to all would be complaining or saying pass. I found plenty of examples, never said it was going to be you every time.
  20. I object. Speculation. Speculation? Let's just do a search for PASS and see what comes up.... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...=137082&hl=pass http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...=134773&hl=pass http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...=133570&hl=pass http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...=133570&hl=pass And many, many more... It has always got to be something to complain about.
  21. Then you'd get people complaining that people really didn't "find" the coin, they just saw them at events. Oh wait, the complaining about that already happens.
  22. I think the coin looks great. However, the U's look like V's in the picture. Was it meant to be that way? And unfortuantly money is tight and we won't be able to purchase this geocoin. Would have loved to have gotten my hands on this coin and the other loggerhead coins. Don't worry about the others complaining, they all have to find something to do with their time.
  23. That's why you keep records of when you sent the rebate in, what the rebate was for, etc... So far using that method, I have not missed a single rebate and I've done plenty. It's all about keeping GOOD records. And then if they invalidate the rebate you need to keep on them and provide them with what they need.
