  1. I got my 100th cache in february after 4 years 6 months and 5 years 3 months after going caching for the first time with the friend who started me caching.
  2. I knew this was possible for childcare, but not for buying bicycles. Do you have more information? We are using cyclescheme.co.uk Hope this is of some use to you I would do you a linky thing but I'm not sure how.
  3. I also have a diesel car, do you remember in the 90s when everyone said how great and cheap they were to run so lots of people bought one, guess our lords and masters cottoned on to it aswell, not such a cheap option now. I'm just about to get a bike through the tax break scheme where you pay for it from your gross wages, thought I'd get something back out of em at least. And I will be using it more and the car less in the future especially to find the local caches.
  4. The juice from the actual nettle is good to put on your stings if you are brave enough to try it, as long as you are careful extracing it, I have tried it does work honest.
  5. Hi, I work for a local West mids council and three weeks waiting is not very long, council time is different to normal time, you just have to keep nagging them, chipping away at their resolve, become a bit of a pest. You are probably in the system somewhere waiting to land on the right persons desk. You could try contacting the community liasion officer if they have one, this worked for me in Sandwell.
  6. I still have a couple of ammo boxes hanging around along with two of the fuse canister type. And don't mention marc b. I did his road to the wrekin series and got six out of the seven in a day only to be beaten at wrekin havoc due to failing light!! I should have waited for the longer days. . I'm not bitter though.
  7. I would organise a cito but it would be a bit of a busmans holiday for me as I work for a local council and I clean up after thoughtless folk five days a week already.
  8. I'm sorry if this has been done before but i'm going to go off on one. I did a cache this morning, it was a great spot, water, wildlife, greenery, open spaces and a well executed cache and the fly tipping and the litter did not detract from the cache at all, that is why i'm posting here and not on the log. What gets into these people who will drive miles to drop off old tyres and chuck beer cans. you just want a big hand to come out of the sky and give em a good shoe in. Probably the same people who declare their love for England by wearing the shirt, drink German lager then chuck the empty and go to costa del chav for their holidays ? rant over off my chest now thanks.
  9. I try and find something positive to say on my logs even if its about the weather, the local wildlife and views, if its a good hide or an unusual container. I don't log the bad caches or even claim a DNF I just carry on walking by. My idea of a bad cache might be great to someone else though but that might be off topic sorry.
  10. you could try going up another rung on the ladder and appeal to their better nature, give them some of the benificial aspects of caching like more revenue more visitors and cito and so on. I gave up on my local council it was like head on brick, I moved on and got a twelve month trial with another one, some times you just have to call it a day its their loss.
  11. She says she likes caching but I don't think she does as much as me . So I try and find ones that are near National trust or English heritage sites or are where we can do some walking, sometimes you can combine a walk, historical site and lunch which tends to go down well. I do try and limit the numbers when we are caching together as I don't want to push my luck. But she does say she likes it so maybe I should go for it and get my numbers up.
  12. Thanks to both of you for your hard work and all the best to you in the future. reelcutter.
  13. Because I'm a demon on the dance floor not! . Because it was the name of the machine I was using to do my job at the time, If I were to do the same now I would be Great Dane which has probably already been taken anyway.
  14. When you do find a spot to place a cache then find the people you need to contact thats the easy part. Waiting for a reply to a simple enquiry can take what seems like an age, you then have to explain all about caching which can seem an odd pastime to some people, weirdos. A couple of my caches took months to sort out but we got there in the end. I also enjoyed doing the research for the cache which was almost as enjoyable as finding em! I would say that you need a lot patience to get your permission but if you stick at it you will get your rewards, all the people I've contacted have been very helpful and intrested in what we do as it will hopefully bring in extra visitors to their sites. Good luck.
  15. Have you tried asking for it back I find if you ask the Gods nicely you usually get ignored. I wonder if there's a caching God?
  16. I found it by chance a few weeks back. I like the hybrid option best.
  17. Does being Ftf make you one of the best? I can see your point about it being more enjoyable when you do find one ahead of a ftf'er though. I just think it's a shame that they might not get to see the cache area in its best light. As the placer would have taken time and some thought picking a place for a cache and would hope that people would enjoy the view and or historical aspect of it as much as they do. But as I said if thats how they want to play the game thats up to them.
  18. I don't see the fun in rooting around in the dark just to find a little plastic box, especially when people have taken the time and trouble to place a cache that has some fine views or is a historically intresting place. But everyone is entitled to play how they see fit and if thats what floats your boat! And there are ways to get around your cache being found by ftf'ers probably not in the true spirit of the game but it is an option.
  19. When the Earth moved. I saw this in the BBC history mag for March just after the quake in the east of England. Earthquake house Perthshire, "A tiny hut in the Perthshire countryside was once the epicentre of earthquake studies". I thought it would make a good Earthcache site. But living in the English midlands and not many visit's North of the border I'm not able to follow it up.
  20. My e-trex is getting on now just the same as the one in the picture but it does have the globe icon above the screen and it says 12 channel gps on the screen. I would upload image but not sure how. If yours looks like mine I'd say you have got the basic e-trex although I say basic it serves me very well.
  21. Could call it fried up instead now. someone had to say it thought I would do the honours.
  22. I don't think I like micro's as a rule especially ones hidden in the wide open countryside, although my 100th was exactly that hidden on top of caer caradoc and good one it was too and I could see why it had to be a micro. That said I don't mind finding a micro or even a nano if it's part of a multi that leads to a "proper" sized cache, this is important when young uns are with us as swaps are what we need then.
  23. Hi, I also have an old yellow e-trex which have had since 2003 and I find it more than adequate for the job, it all depends on how much you like your gadgets I suppose but I don't think you would go far wrong starting with a yella then upgrading later if you really get into it.
