  1. We got stung by having the misfortune of getting some christmas gifts sent to us from Canada, we did get some money back from the tax eventually but not a lot and nothing from the post office so our presents actually cost us money. THE B*******. Thieves in suits. So be careful when getting any cache goodies sent to you from abroad.
  2. A lot of my logs are longer than the cache descriptions on some cache pages I've seen and don't think I write that much, these caches probably deserve a . or a short log.
  3. Back in the old days all you got were the co-ords to find a given spot on the face of the earth how you got to that point was down to you, you might even have to use a map.
  4. Its probably a numbers thing. If you are doing loads of caches in day you will be lucky to get a one line log entry you can read so getting a decent swap is probably asking a bit too much.
  5. Too true I hate those things as well. I think common sense should guide you, just because a cache is there does not mean you have to get it. Just resist and walk on.
  6. I have a first not to find i'm quite proud of. I do log dnfs if Iv'e made proper search, if unable I would write a note to say I could not look.
  7. I would not have a problem getting numbers from the memorial to get a cache from somewhere else nearby but to have the cache at the actual memorial is a bit I don't know I would feel uncomfortable, or is it just me.
  8. Hi, I don't know about the quarry your intrested in. But I have an earthcache at a quarry. The land was owned by the quarry be was in the care of the National trust. I got in contact with the owners in my case Bardon aggregates then the NT. If you only have one body to deal with it can only be good.
  9. The litterati, puts out loads of caches just for the sake of it and probably without permission. . There is no tongue in cheek face.
  10. I'm not what you would call a prolific finder or a keeper but of the caches I have set up and are active now I would say I enjoyed the setting up more than finding. I found doing the research for cache sites, getting in contact with the land owners then getting their permission to place which can be frustrating then having the cache published was very rewarding.
  11. Mine is set to magnetic north with a variance of 004.W
  12. Don't forget the eTrex is not a magnetic compass - it only works properly when moving (ie walking). Once you stop it might point anywhere as it was no idea where North is. Yea like hawkeye81 says you have to keep moving for the arrow to point to the correct location, a bit of tracking back is needed sometimes. Always try and trust where the neddle is pointing as you approach GZ with the e-trex. I have had my yellow one six years and its still going strong.
  13. The top 100 drive-by micros? Or quality finds? Or caches hidden by yourself? Or money spent on polluting the countryside to chase numbers??? I agree numbers who needs em go for a good walk and maybe get one or two caches on the way and its more HEALTHY for you and the enviroment
  14. Well, I'll probably get shot down over this, but...... I like mili, micro, nano, pico caches.... Yeah, I know loads of people hate them, but each to their own. I'd love to be able to have a code that can be emailed back instead of a logbook... Hmmm... Just had a thought...Earthcaches dont have log books, just logging requirements, so why not have a pebble as an earthcache? Right, back to my nice warm padded room, with the spiders!! PAUL. What are mili and pico caches?
  15. How about a short search which means anything under 15 minutes for me
  16. Hi thanks for that. I had e-mail reply today from British waterways regional office which was intresting but unhelpful to say the least I dont think I'll putting one out now. Thanks everyone.
  17. e-mail sent to regional office thanks for the link folks.
