  1. Magellan Sportrak map, (defective, returning to gander mountain tommorrow) Dvds, books, and a few trinkets to start off my geocaching career...
  2. That was what I was planning to do, but is this a common problem with the model, or just a semi-random occurence..
  3. I just recently got a SporTrak Map for christmas, except I noticed that there is a line of discoloration on the screen, whereas, text that should normally be seen there isn slightly discolored, sometimes invisible. Just wandering if resolution problems are common and what, if anything should I do?
  4. Several years ago, I had actually taken an orienteering course at the local audibon society, and they had talked about geocaching in brief really because one person didn't have a normal compass only an electronic one. I thought it seemed really cool, but all the things I had heard about caching so far were all about how they were these big adventures with lots of hard work and I had seen stuff on tv that caching is absolutely like. But I guess, I thought it was just a rich mans sport cause I thought it was hard to find them and I didn't know how reasonably priced GPSrs had become... Anyway, just a few months ago, I had asked a friend what she had done over the summer and she said she went geocaching. A different friend who was with us didn't know what it was so we both sort of explained it (me trying to sound smart, even though I knew very little about it.) So, just out of curiousity, I googled "geocaching" and came up with this site, and have been lurking ever since, trying the occasional find without a GPSr, never being very successful. Anyway, I've always wanted to get into the sport for real, and now with my brand new GPSr that I got for christmas, I'm hoping to start in a few days...
  5. I posted a very detailed post explaining my idea, but because of my stupidity, I used the certain "trigger words" and my post was sent to tptb to be approved. Anyway, I was just wandering if someone would be interested in starting a website completely independent from any of the geocaching websites where it doesn't really matter where you list your caches or which site you use, just talk about the sport. Using some message forum (maybe invision power board) If my other post ever gets posted, I'll markwell, but this is it for now. It's really an elaborate idea, it's just I don't want to post it again.... ---- "The geocacher formerly known as K-9Cacher." Extra batteries for GPS, don't leave home without 'em.
  6. Umm, not sure about this one, but the benchmarks are placed by the NGS (National Geololical Survey,) which is an american department. Even if it's not that particular agency, I'm still pretty sure it's just an american/north american thing... ---- "The geocacher formerly known as K-9Cacher." 7. I'm not real good with design, but I got tons of webspace and can upload stuff for you.... ---- "The geocacher formerly known as K-9Cacher." Extra batteries for GPS, don't leave home without 'em.
  8. I think it would be a pretty cool idea, and would love to see it implimented, but mostly likely, it will never added to the system... I seriously wish it would though... ---- "The geocacher formerly known as K-9Cacher." Extra batteries for GPS, don't leave home without 'em.
  9. Congratulations, I love reading the leprechauns' logs and I love looking at his caches and the thought he puts into them. I hope I can maybe hit some next time I go to my brother's house in the scity... ---- "The geocacher formerly known as K-9Cacher." Extra batteries for GPS, don't leave home without 'em.
  10. Thanks Wanderingson, I actually already ready know about the Traffic Cone Preservation Society, and several of my friends are "card carrying members" but I thank you all for your input.. ---- "The geocacher formerly known as K-9Cacher." Extra batteries for GPS, don't leave home without 'em.
  11. Thank you all for your input, I've decided that if I do go ahead with this cache, it will be placed at an area car dealership. (Once again, that's not giving away to much to future seekers, seeing as there's 100's of car dealerships within 15 miles of my house.) With proper placement, it would be awesome... ---- "The geocacher formerly known as K-9Cacher." Extra batteries for GPS, don't leave home without 'em.
  12. Oh, definately not in traffic, see, that's another problem. It could be a cache where you'd have to look inconspicuos (sp?) but definately not in traffic... ---- "The geocacher formerly known as K-9Cacher." Extra batteries for GPS, don't leave home without 'em.
  13. I know someone will probably say that I'm stupid for sharing an idea for hiding a cache, but I feel that if this is used right, it wouldn't matter if people knew about this idea and my use of it. Basically, my idea would be build some kind of small container into a traffic cone or barrel, and then place it somewhere inconspicuous. I really think I like this idea, but I've run into some problems. 1. If I place it in an urban area with lots of other cones/barrels, it will most likely be stolen, or removed when the others are taken by DOT or whatever. 2. If I place it in a more rural area, it would stick out like a sore thumb. I just need something in between those.... Any ideas... ---- "The geocacher formerly known as K-9Cacher." 14. -My own DVD store. -My own 3000 acre park to place caches. -Garmin -Microsoft -Sun Microsystems ...Oh, sorry, just dreaming out loud. All I really want for christmas is my two front teeth.... ---- "The geocacher formerly known as K-9Cacher." Extra batteries for GPS, don't leave home without 'em.
  15. Why isn't anyone REPLYING!?>!?!?!?!?! ---- "The geocacher formerly known as K-9Cacher." Extra batteries for GPS, don't leave home without 'em.
  16. I haven't seen more than one cache, (which was a film can micro) and that's why I'm asking. I got an army surplus catalog today, and the dimensions of the ammo cans seem really small for something that sounds like it can hold so much. I mean the regular 50 caliber ammo can has less than 1 square foot of ground space and probably about as much, if not less actual room in it. Am I crazy in thinking that ammo cans are kinda big, or am I just looking for them in the wrong army surplus catalog? ---- "The geocacher formerly known as K-9Cacher." 17. My dad is actually my church's treasurer and all he uses is excel. But if you take some time, you can really make an excel spreadsheet look nice, so that's all he needs and it might be all you need.... ---- "The geocacher formerly known as K-9Cacher." 18. What size of ammo can or tupperware container is considered the average or standard size when you're talking about a normal cache. ---- "The geocacher formerly known as K-9Cacher." Extra batteries for GPS, don't leave home without 'em.

  20. If i'm undersatanding what your saying. What you need to do is email the person who took him and remind him/her to log the TB. If that's not what you meant, please clarify......... ---- Extra batteries for GPS, don't leave home without 'em.
  21. That really is something to think about before you log a "what a lame cache" or "horrible hiding spot" it makes you love the family values of geocahing... ---- Extra batteries for GPS, don't leave home without 'em.
  22. Don't do anything other than tell the cache owner or approver unless the cache owner or approver tells you to... On the other hand, I see a great t-shirt opportunity... "Geo-Police" "Geo-SWAT" "Geocache Tactical Rescue Squad" ---- Extra batteries for GPS, don't leave home without 'em.
  23. You know, I know all kinds of animal rights activists that would just flip out about something like this, but I'm keeping my mouth shut, in hopes that this was a joke... ---- Extra batteries for GPS, don't leave home without 'em.
  24. Definately not a fad. It's a hobby.... ---- Extra batteries for GPS, don't leave home without 'em.
  25. The fact about not needing GPS is true in some cases. And you can find a lot of easy ones without GPS. However, if you wanna get very far into this hobby, you'll eventually have to spree for a GPSr. But anyway, welcome to the hobby... ---- Extra batteries for GPS, don't leave home without 'em.
