Crap, you beat me to the swimsuit edition suggestion. Ummm, I think maybe if you had a section for idiot of the month, about the most recent geocide that would be cool. But I think what would be coolest would be a section about dogs. I don't know what exactly, maybe a profile on a caching dog/handler team each month or something like that would be cool...

There's hardly enough caching to make it worth while either.... But I figure, if the guy doesn't necessairily want me taking full ownership of his cache, I'll see if he'll let me put a nalgene water bottle or something next to the cache container in it the hiding spot and fill it with garbage bags and just ask that everyone take a bag and whoever cleans up the last of the trash can keep the bottle...

OT: I'm about to set loose my first TB. It will be a "Bags on Board" dog poop bag carrier shaped like a fire hydrant... It's Goal: To pick up dog poop across the country, and to win the TB race it'll be entered in...

Where did you get all the John Deere stuff anyway? Obviously you or someone you know works at a John Deere dealership... That's so cool...

Also, the other thing about having a CITO event is that I don't think there's actually enough garbage to warrant a full work crew of what I would probably get if I posted an event. The trash in the area is more than my team would like to carry out by ourselves, but I don't think there's much in other parts of the park other than this area... I guess if I were to have an event in the park the goal would be to clean up the target area around the cache, and then fix up the cache a little, and then return to the parking/staging area and eat a little bit. But the thing is, if it's a full blown event, I'll have to tell the park managers about it, and I'd have to tell them that we were really only going to target one area, and they'd either be mad that we were only targeting one area, or very curious why we care so much about one small off trail area...

I don't necessairily want to get rid of it. It's just, it was one of my favorite caches when I first did it, but when I saw the area when the snow was melted, I realized it was really kind of trashy. I want to clean it up so that I can get my own cache in the park.

I was thinking about planning a CITO event there but I am planning to attend another event on CITO and so I couldn't do this. I still don't know what to do about the owner...

That's so cool, I bet you put a lot of work into that cache. I wish people around here were that creative... But every one is right, it's beautiful, and there's no way that could be mistaken for a bomb.

Well, see I have a really big conscience. And if I didn't tell the director about the other cache when I was trying to get permission, I'd just feel bad. And if I told him, he'd see the mess around the area that the original is hidden in and think geocaching is such a bad thing for his park that I shouldn't be allowed to put in another one... By placing a new cache with permission and not telling him about the other cache, he might find out about it, and see how messy the area is and I may endanger caching in this park and possibly the whole park system that runs it...

Oh, I'm an idiot too.... I was thinking since they're so heavy, they'd sink like a rock, but unless you could figure out a way to vaccuum seal it, it would most definately float...

Actually, if the thermos is a good metal one, it could work very well as your underwater one. I mean, if it was a really nice metal one it would probably sink...

A certain local cache in my area is in need of help. The area that it's in, is no more than 100 feet off the trail, but it seems that it's been thoroughly trashed. There are tons of empty glass bottles laying around in the area immediately next to the cache and on the walk from the trail to the cache area. The cache itself is in fairly good condition and is fairly full, but there is no longer any readily visible markings recognizing it as a geocache. Not only that, but I must assume that it was not placed with permission and/or, the current director of the park does not know about it. The cache owner, has not logged a find on a cache since about february last year. And the last time he actually logged on to geocaching.com was about a month ago I think to disable a cache that the most recent finder had said was completely trashed. He didn't archive it, and he didn't post a note saying that he planned to replace the cache, or that he was looking for someone to replace it, he just disabled it. So basically, I'm looking for a polite way to tell him that his cache is in need of some serious work, and that if he couldn't I could adopt it or something for him And then I'd need to figure out a way to get permission... If I do get to adopt the cache, should I yank it, then clean up the area, then request permission for it just as if it were a brand new cache? Also, with the cache as old as it is, (placed in early 2002) is it even worth it to just cleanup the area and replace the container? I mean, most of the major cachers in the area have bagged it. But it's a good cache for beginners, I dunno. What's everyone's advice on what exactly I should do with this whole conundrum. Also, you should probably know that I'm planning to place a new cache in this park, and with the original cache's current state/state of the area of the park it's in, if I mentioned it to the director, it would most doubtedly look bad for me, because it's an off-trail area that probably isn't used otherwise.... Sorry about this post being so long, and sort of screwed up with the way it's typed, I actually typed this and sent it to my local yahoo group before I posted it here, and then I just copied and pasted it here...

Yah, I think there definately needs to be some kind of simplification of virtual cache logging. Maybe a quiz type script could be put together, and it could be there when you're logging a find, and it could actually be automated, like a quiz/password type script. The person would have to know the answer/date or multiple answers or dates for their log to be submitted, the passwords would be the answers for the questions need to log the find...

Well there's always the story of the guys who bushwack half a mile to a cache when really you can follow a trail for a mile for all but twenty feet...

I rarely read the threads that seem to technical for me to read, I usually go for the ones that look interesting or funny or have been recomended by friends in abject sillinses... Oh and by the way, congratulations on overcoming your fear of the AS forum...

You know this brings up a good point, I'm surprised that no trendy, internet saavy geocachers have set up an online store selling geocaching essentials (not just t-shirts) stuff like tupperware, ammo cans, pens, pencils, notebooks for logbooks.. stuff that's a bit more in demand then stuff the gc store sells

Does anyone reccomend a big sign or banner for the command center type place? -
You look at the numbers on the index page.. When it's at 49 or 99 the next post is norm...

Could someone give me an idea here? About how much would it be worth during today's exchange rate?
-
You can do that, but don't list it on the site...
-
Which means?
-
But seriously, what's the current street value on this coin?
-
Well, if the cache is on private property, I don't think it really matters wether you're going past no tresppasing signs or not. You should try and get permission, or just archive it...

Most of the current moving caches are grandfathered, but I think, as with all ideas Groundspeak might let you do it if you had it planned all right. I think the major rule reguarding a moving cache is that you'd have to be able to know where it was at all times. And so if it were just a film canister with a log book that was being just transferred around the area it might be approved as a mystery cache, but I don't know, email your local approver and see what he thinks...
