  1. Really? Because the maps changed geocaching is no longer enjoyable enough to pony up $30/year to support the site that most enables you to play the game and the premium member benefits have no value for you? Keep in mind that Google Maps interfaces is NOT a premium member benefit, only the map view filters are. today is the maps who's to say what will they take away tomorrow, and the day after and so on? I for one have been paying PM for the past almost 4 years for the sole purpose of supporting GC, there's two of us in the household paying for PM so i really don't need to, i probably run only a couple of PQ's on my account in the last 3 years, but i do renew every year because i believe GC does have some considerable expenses to keep this hobby going, i am even willing to pay around $5 more a year...however if they start taking things away i will reconsider my support
  2. over one year in BETA state with pretty much no improvements/changes is your idea of "addressing the issue"?
  3. I think this is a very big assumption. I just can't imagine that at eleventy-billion hits per day gspeak would be subject to the same rates quoted for clients quoted in thousands per month. I agree. It would most likely be much more. Since that amount of traffic would require Google to dedicate entire servers to providing maps to just Geocaching.com. and why would they have to do that?...they already handled that traffic before
  4. Following that line of thinking then why doesn't GS offer each premium member feature à la carte? By charging $5 for each PM feature, if PMs sign up for all the features, GS could make a lot more money. I don't use every PM feature so it could end up saving some money. I think that would a bookkeepers and developer's nightmare. and why would that be? for the accounting part the system keeps track of options chosen and spit out the proper amount to charge, which would be done at the time of payment...i sure hope GC doesn't do their accounting manually for developers shouldn't be a problem either...enable vs disable features both are already being done for a long time now by countless businesses its not like trying to implement something unheard of
  5. You're assuming that the money they get for PMs is pure profit. Don't forget that Groundspeak has to pay rent, utilities, salary, hosting, bandwidth, and various other expenses. I highly doubt they have an extra $1.5 mil just laying around. nope, not assuming anything...i am fully aware of other costs, and i always pointed that out to other people that actually assume but, as someone pointed out there are currently 128,000 PM's at $30 its $3.8 mil a year...that is a good chunk of money to pay their expenses and have quite a bit left i am not suggesting they pay the per use for google maps but a premier license should definitely be considered further more if the PM went up by $5 that would bring in an extra $700K, i think most people would pay that, even more so since the fee has never been increased before, i would think that anyone with common sense will recognize that it would be a well justified increase
  6. until you post a picture that it can actually be viewed you're out of luck getting help, i see the "info bubble" just fine
  7. that would imply 2 mil map loads per day in excess of the free 25K there is no way its that high, besides google offers premier accounts Exactly. In About Google Maps, OpinioNate wrote: "Geocaching.com averages well over 2,000,000 hits to Google per day, placing us firmly within that small percentage of affected consumers." if that is really true there is the option of getting Google Maps API for Business they start at $10K...how much can it be a year, 100K?...but i honestly don't think so surely GC can afford that, its only 3300 PM's, there's way more than 3300 PM's

  9. i'll take it any day over the American healthcare system where you're pretty much as good as dead if you got no insurance.....ooh but wait this thread is not about the healthcare system, darn
  10. all pictures taken yesterday Travel Bug Hangout!!! Simcoe, Simcoe and the bonus, just because is too good not to post it
  11. 99% of the premium members use pocket queries not "send to gps", after all is one of the best perks of being PM, how exactly do you think its possible to apply your suggestion to a PQ containing 1000 caches?

  13. From the order page: Any idea how long the wait will be, for these? (It's what I'm waiting for, too.) it is my understanding that if there are not 200 people buying those initial offerings the deal's off maybe i misunderstood? RCA or CacheShadow can chime in
  14. you don't need any other program to load PQ's
  15. hmmm i was curious where that comment comes from so i found this...is this reviewer for real? all i can say is: ridiculous!
  16. "The video you have requested is not available for your geographic region" how i hate that they do that, its so lame as if the rest of the world is on a different planet i wish i knew their reasoning Broadcasting agreements with different networks is usually the reason. TCM is frequently blacked out in Canada because they don't own the rights to broadcast the movie here. still makes no sense, i can see blocking the full episodes but this is nothing more then a preview, same as a movie trailer, even more so when the information is available from other sites If it is bothering you that much, contact the provider and ask them why. . any comment i make has to automatically be classified as "bothering" me?....am i allowed to make any observation?

  18. i thought so too but apparently is not true http://www.canlyme.com/rash.html

  20. look at the CO profile and see where they are from, but it could be that they have someone there taking care of it, which is usually the way those caches away from home are approved, or maybe they visit the location frequently enough that satisfied the reviewer that would be taken care of personally i wouldn't leave TB's there, i don't feel geocaching is too popular, except from tourists and for those more so taking into consideration the uncertainty of being allowed to have a GPS or not
  21. I'm sure that was because it was off topic. :P At least the mod answered my pm even if the reply was another example of overly sensitive readers and a misapplication of the guidelines. i was very tempted to tell you what the outcome will be, speaking from experience here
  22. so you think "family" automatically involves having children...well let me break this to you...it doesn't...a husband and a wife are still a "family" even in the absence of children, the so called D.I.N.K.s, and our notion of "family friendly" is very different than yours so according to your theory about "family friendly" those caches should not exist because they are dangerous thus not "family friendly" so basically according to you, because i don't have kids my life should be restricted to doing activities that someone with kids can do? thus depriving me of having fun The Northern Light -Technical Scuba Cache- The Queen of Nassau -Technical Scuba Cache- as a parent you have a responsibility to protect your children from harm...please do not extend it beyond that scope
  23. children are not the only ones using a sandbox, there's also some pets that pee in a sandbox This is the one we've used, and I've seen on other forums: The forums are our house. You are invited as guests. This is not a place for free-for-alls between guests to take place. We have rules and we expect our guests to abide by them. It's the same as you would expect guests in your house to behave according to your rules. Civil and respectful discussions are encouraged. Personal sniping and insults will not be tolerated. The forums exist because the sharing of information is helpful to others who participate in this sport/hobby. The forums are not a "democracy". "Free speech" does not apply. Except Sandy did not offer a solution with ehr complaint. She even back peddled on what she "meant" which was worse. Whenever someone makes a snide and condescending statement like she made and then plays the "what I meant to say" or "what I should have said" it is too late at that point. What she doesn't get is there are a lot of people much older and much more experienced in life than she is that they find her tone offensive. Don't speak for me. I don't find Sandy offensive. I find the back peddling unprofessional at the worst and an annoyance at best. There is a learning curve and she appears to be a little behind, but maybe her employer has faith that she can improve or why would they have made her their mouthpiece? I have no reason to second guess why she has been given the responsibility here. I just hope she can take some of what is being said here constructively. how many years would you consider is fair to allow someone to complete a learning curve? i personally don't think its got anything to do with learning curve
  24. optional or not is not the point...the point is that for it to be optional someone at GC would have to spend time on designing this stuff when there are better things to spend their time on, some that have been outstanding for a long time now that need to be solved, and if you ask the majority in this forum way more important and useful than creating a social network as you noted there are already ways for people to find each other and communicate, more than enough afaic
